Chapter 376 - Chapter 373

"Get out of the way, we're just going up to search, and we'll leave if we don't find the suspect."

"Damn you, how dare you! My master is a noble!"

"Hmph, this is the order of our Count."

"..."

In the morning, Lucas was woken up by the noise, sitting up and looking at the spot where the cat-eared girl had been, but she was no longer there.

He rolled out of bed, planning to go outside and check on those desperate nobles, causing a ruckus so early in the morning.

"Creak..."

The door opened, and Nicole stepped in. Upon seeing Lucas, her eyes brightened, and she greeted him softly, "Young master, good morning."

"Good morning." Lucas turned around to look at Nicole, stopping the motion of removing his clothes. He allowed Nicole to assist him, then asked, "They didn't board our ship, did they?"

"No, we've already left the port and are in the middle of the river," Nicole replied softly, fastening his belt.

"Whose idea was this?" Lucas was a bit surprised; he had thought they would end up getting entangled with those nobles.

"It was Mina's idea. She got up before dawn," Nicole answered gently.

"Let's go outside and take a look." Lucas took a step towards the door. He had the Amos Notes, and the nobles outside would be in a frenzy.

If word got out that he had obtained the Amos Notes, even if he were truly a prince, those nobles would probably come after him.

"Alright." Nicole smiled in response.

Thud, thud, thud...

Lucas stepped onto the deck and saw the chaos unfolding not far from the port. A group of knights was charging around recklessly, overturning goods on the shore. He could even see one or two ships on fire.

"They've gone too far," Nicole clenched her fist, angry. "How can they burn someone else's ship?"

"Just looting while the fire's burning," Lucas shook his head. Those knights seemed more interested in grabbing coins than finding people. It was probably even worse inside Pentos City.

Whoosh~~

Suddenly, a whistling sound came from above. Lucas looked up and saw Mina, holding a hemp rope, leaping down from the mast, and then the sail was dropped.

Thud, thud...

Mina used the momentum to take two steps and arrived in front of Lucas. She shook her cat ears and flicked her tail, smiling brightly, "Good morning, young master."

"Good morning." Lucas smiled, his lips curling up, and said softly, "Let's get ready to depart. We should leave this trouble-filled place as soon as possible."

"Alright." Mina nodded and walked away with light steps to inform the others.

Soon, the crew on the ship began to move, and with the help of the wind, the ship slowly started to drift. Before long, it had already left the boundaries of Pentos City.

Whoosh, whoosh~~

The sound of flapping wings came from the sky.

Lucas looked up and saw a white-headed eagle flying down towards the ship. It quickly landed on the deck.

At the top of the ship's mast, there was a red and yellow piece of cloth tied. The white-headed eagle could spot it from afar in the sky and would always fly down toward it. More importantly, the eagle was familiar with the route along the Whispering River.

Lucas was amazed at how the white-headed eagle had been trained. It was a big surprise to him. Compared to the carrier pigeons from Earth, the white-headed eagle seemed even more impressive, or perhaps it had some unique habits he didn't know about.

"Young master, it's a letter from Sedona City." Nicole pulled out a piece of paper from the pouch tied to the white-headed eagle's ankle and said happily, "It's a letter written by Annie."

"What did she write?" Lucas asked with a smile, leaning on the railing as he gazed at the rippling water.

"Let me see." Nicole opened the letter and began reading it, occasionally laughing softly. It was the reply she had written the day before.

"Looks like there's another little mishap," Lucas raised an eyebrow, thinking of the beast-eared girls in Sedona City. Without his supervision, they were probably making a lot of trouble.

"Exactly," Nicole tossed her hair with a cheerful smile, "Young master, Amelia's stopped going to school. Now, she spends her days either sitting in the study or sleeping in your bed."

"..." Lucas paused for a moment, shaking his head with a wry smile, then sighed, "Amelia's temperament... I'm afraid it won't change anytime soon."

He could imagine why Amelia was acting this way. It was a sign of her dependence on him. With him gone for these few days, the isolated girl had lost her sense of security.

"Amelia really likes you, young master," Nicole said softly, her eyes flickering. For some reason, she thought of Catherine, the duke's daughter, who also seemed to have developed feelings for the young master.

"Write back, tell Amelia to behave and go to school. Otherwise, when I return, I won't take her to the sky," Lucas said gently.

"Alright." Nicole nodded softly, taking the letter and heading toward the cabin. There were still some private little messages from the girls to read.

Lucas turned his head to watch Nicole's retreating figure before looking back at the white-headed eagle. His brows furrowed as he began to ponder. How can I make letter delivery more efficient and information flow faster?

The events of the past few days, particularly the Amos Notes, were a perfect example. If he had been in Sedona City, receiving such news would have taken at least a month. External messages would arrive late, always over a month behind.

This was not what he wanted. Slow information meant missing out on opportunities—so many things could be lost or overlooked. But relying entirely on the white-headed eagle for communication was unrealistic. Using too many would expose it, and it was one of his secret weapons for gathering intelligence.

Letter delivery? Maybe a courier system? Lucas stroked his chin, frowning as he thought aloud. Letter delivery... but not as goods?

His mind wandered to the courier services from Earth, trying to find an effective delivery system suited to this era. The idea of delivering goods through courier services was out of the question.

What if we just focused on letters? Lucas's dark eyes lit up. Yes, I could start with a letter delivery system first. Once it's more mature, then we can think about handling goods delivery.

One city as a unit? A city-to-city delivery system? Eventually reaching the destination? His mind raced, quickly processing the feasibility of this plan.

The people of this era were mostly illiterate, and even fewer could write. If a letter delivery service were to be established, it would require at least some who could read and write.

Moreover, there would need to be offices in every city, along with runners who could deliver the letters. Both land and water routes would need to be integrated, using fast-moving ships and horse-drawn carts to ensure swift delivery.

The more Lucas thought about it, the more feasible it seemed. He decided that once he returned to Sedona City, he would begin setting up the letter delivery service. For now, he would start with a few nearby cities as a trial. If successful, he would expand it. On the surface, it would be a simple letter delivery service, but in secret, it would also function as an intelligence network. Once the system grew, he could begin to handle the delivery of goods as well.

The plan was solid, and Lucas felt a surge of confidence. This could be the key to ensuring faster communication and control over information in this turbulent world.
