Knock, knock, knock!
"My Lord, Miss Nicole says dinner is ready," A maid knocked on the door and announced.
"Alright," Lucas replied. He then led the group towards the dining room, running into Lucy along the way as she had just come out of her room.
Creaaak...
"Huh, what is this?" Florence followed Lucas and the others into the dining room and was immediately drawn to the grill on the table.
A strange-looking grill like this would indeed easily catch people's attention in this world.
"This is a barbecue grill. We'll use it to roast meat later," Nicole brought over a plate of meat and placed it around the grill.
"Florence, long time no see!" Helen shouted in pleasant surprise. The rabbit-eared girl and Ayesha walked in from outside, their eyes instantly drawn to the mermaid's blue hair.
"Helen, Ayesha, long time no see!" Florence called out happily.
"Take a seat, everyone. We can eat right away," Lucas greeted them. He skillfully plugged in the electric barbecue grill to let it preheat.
At this moment, Yuka and Lilith were completely stunned. They stared at the glowing lightbulb overhead, their hearts filled with shock.
They were amazed at why it was glowing and didn't emit any heat. It wasn't hot at all, which was even more unbelievable than the glowing fish of Mermaid Bay.
"This is a lightbulb. It glows when electricity passes through it," Florence explained with a smile. Looking at the amazed expressions of her two subordinates, she couldn't help but recall the scene when she first saw a lightbulb.
"Electricity? Lightbulb?" The two were still a bit bewildered but didn't ask further questions. They knew their place.
For the two of them, many things here were incomprehensible. For example, why did water flow out endlessly just by twisting that faucet? Or this barbecue grill in front of them—there was clearly no charcoal fire, yet it was said to be able to roast meat. And then there were those little fans held by the beast-eared girls.
"Electricity can't be popularized yet, but it definitely will be in the future," Lucas said gently, thinking to himself that this was probably a lifetime series project.
Currently, the castle's power supply relies entirely on the solar panels on the roof and a small hydroelectric generator. Popularizing it throughout the entire city was still an impossible task.
Unless Lucas ran back and forth between Earth and this world every single day to focus solely on electricity, God knows how long it would take to accomplish.
"We can start grilling the meat now," Lucas hovered his hand over the barbecue grill for a moment. Feeling the heat, he brushed a layer of oil onto it.
"Master, let me do it," Nicole took the tongs from Lucas's hand. With practiced ease, she laid pieces of meat onto the grill. After a while, she flipped them over, and the fragrant roasted meat was ready.
"Here, Florence, you try a piece first," Annie picked up a piece of meat and placed it in Florence's bowl. Then, she unceremoniously scooped half of the remaining meat into her own bowl.
"Ah, damn it! Annie, you're too much..." Ayesha's fur bristled immediately. She had been keeping a close eye on the meat on the grill. It was one thing for the fox-eared girl to give a piece to Florence, but to actually snatch all the rest for herself was outrageous!
"Bleh, bleh, bleh..." Annie playfully stuck her tongue out.
Yuka and Lilith looked dumbfoundedly at the scene of snatching and grabbing at the next table, unable to recover their senses for a good while.
Regardless of what others said, the two didn't dare to sit at the same table as Lucas and Florence. Ultimately, with no other choice, another small table was set up beside them, and a separate electric grill was brought out for them to use.
From Florence's introductions earlier, they learned that many big shots were sitting at that dining table: a beastkin princess, a human princess, a duke's daughter, and so on.
For example, that newly acquainted human girl was actually Princess Lucy of the Siacan Kingdom. The fox-eared girl was the princess of the Valtoria Kingdom. And Lucas was the City Lord of Sedona City, a human noble.
"Lilith, why aren't you two eating? Does it not suit your taste? The roasted meat won't taste good if it gets cold," Nicole asked curiously, noticing the two staring blankly at the next table.
"Ah, no, thank you," Lilith snapped out of her daze. Her nose twitched, and she swallowed a mouthful of saliva.
They picked up pieces of slightly charred meat and stuffed them into their mouths. They were still a bit unfamiliar with eating barbecue, even though Nicole had just taught them how.
The next moment, their eyes widened. They looked at each other, seeing the astonishment in each other's eyes, followed by overwhelming delight.
"Delicious! Yuka, this roasted meat is so delicious! It's really better than giant spearfish," Lilith whispered to Yuka after swallowing the meat.
Yuka nodded in deep agreement, having long forgotten his previously dismissive attitude.
"Grill whatever you want to eat yourselves, otherwise there won't be anything left to eat soon," Mina turned her head and kindly reminded them, before joining the food-snatching fray.
At first, the two were a bit embarrassed, considering the VIPs at the next table. But in the end, unable to control their desires, their chopsticks began moving with increasing frequency.
Then, they finally understood what Mina meant. They saw Florence getting restless towards the end, simply running over to their table to join them...
Then Annie came over, and Ayesha joined in too...
"..." Yuka and Lilith stared with stiff expressions at the chaotic scene of flying chopsticks.
After dinner.
"Lucy, has your book been produced yet?" Lucas asked while drinking the tea Mina had brewed, looking at Lucy who had eaten until she was stuffed.
Over the past two days, Lucy had been practically living in the library, watching her handwritten manuscript slowly transform into printed text on pages of paper.
When it was finally bound together into a book, and she saw "Written by Princess Lucy — Published by Sedona City Library" on the corner of the cover, her heart hadn't stopped racing with excitement.
This was her first officially published book. After all, the novels she used to write in the capital were on parchment scrolls, completely incapable of being widely distributed.
"Yes, it will be available for purchase at the library tomorrow," Lucy's face flushed slightly. She felt like she had taken advantage of Lucas.
"Oh? Lucy, your book is published? Then I have to go buy a copy tomorrow," Florence said in surprise.
She had originally planned to take Lilith and Yuka for a stroll around the city tomorrow anyway, so she could just swing by the library and buy a few copies of Lucy's book. Bringing them back to Mermaid Bay as souvenirs would be nice.
"I want to buy a copy too! I'm Lucy's loyal fan," Helen twitched her furry ears. Ever since she read Princess Lucy's A Noble Girl's Love Dairy in the library, she had been hooked, eagerly awaiting Lucy's new book.
