Chapter 812 - Chapter 809 Sneaked Out

Florence, her two companions, and Annie spent the entire morning inside the workshop. After selecting the goods, they planned to go to the library to check the sales of Lucy's novel. If it wasn't selling well, Florence decided to secretly buy a few copies to support Lucy.

"To the Sedona City Library," Annie said as she took Florence and Lilith into the carriage, heading straight for the library under the escort of the war wolves Squad.

Clop, clop, clop!!!

The carriage came to a steady stop by the roadside. Annie stepped out and discovered that a long queue had already formed outside the library.

The line stretched from inside the library all the way out into the street. Fortunately, the patrol guards were there maintaining order, so it didn't look chaotic.

"So many people," Florence marveled. A rough glance at the long queue revealed at least several hundred people, and more were continuously joining the back.

"Great, I finally bought Princess Lucy's new book!" Aomeone walked out of the library holding a book, his face brimming with excitement.

"Brother, let me see! If it's good, I'll go buy a copy too," Several people immediately gathered around and asked curiously.

"No need to look, just line up and buy it, you won't regret it. Princess Lucy's novels are guaranteed masterpieces. If you don't line up now, you won't be able to get one," The man patted his chest and declared confidently.

Obviously, he was a die-hard fan of Lucy, highly likely influenced by A Noble Girl's Love Dairy.

Hearing this, the people in the crowd quickly ran to the back of the line to queue up.

The living standards of the citizens in Sedona City had improved significantly, so they were quite willing to spend a little money on a book they liked.

This was all thanks to Lucas's literacy campaign. Currently, thirty percent of Sedona City's citizens are literate. This percentage had actually dropped due to the large influx of new populations; otherwise, at least fifty percent of the original Sedona City population would have been literate.

After all, if you were literate, your job prospects were entirely different. Monthly salaries were generally much higher than those of the illiterate.

"Why are there so many people? I ran over as soon as I saw the newspaper, but I'm still late," Someone muttered in frustration, though he honestly joined the back of the line anyway.

"Brother, don't even mention it. I thought I came early enough, but I was still too late."

"Come, come, say no more. Have a lollipop and wait patiently."

"Brother, do you have any more? I can't leave the line to buy one. If I leave, I'll have to start queueing all over again."

"......…"

Currently in Sedona City, the most obvious change was the improvement in the citizens' quality of life. Another major point was the overall improvement in civic behavior and public etiquette.

If you went somewhere and tried to cut in line instead of queueing properly, you would be despised and rejected by everyone.

This was something the foreign nobles and commoners experienced firsthand. Even if you were a noble, you had to queue up honestly, or use coins to trade places with someone in line.

"There are so many people," Annie sighed. It might be difficult to even squeeze into the library right now, let alone buy a book.

"Great, I got it!" Helen walked out of the library and heaved a sigh of relief. Inside was already packed tight with people buying books; it was her first time seeing the library so popular.

"Eh? It's Helen," Annie called out when she saw her come out. "You bought the book?"

"Ah, Annie and Florence. Yes, I got it." Helen turned back and waved the book in her hand after seeing them.

"Helen, don't you have to go to school today?" Annie blinked her eyes.

"Uh... well..." Helen's happy expression instantly stiffened, and her rabbit ears drooped. She had sneaked out.

"Helen, could it be... you sneaked out?" Annie's eyes narrowed slightly as she stared at the rabbit-eared girl flushing cheeks.

"Cough, cough, cough... No, I'm just passing by on a home visit," Helen stammered.

"A home visit? At this hour?" Annie looked up at the sky. Weren't home visits supposed to be after school in the afternoon?

"Yes, exactly, a home visit," Helen nodded solemnly and said seriously, "Alright, I have to continue my home visits now."

Without waiting for Annie to speak, the rabbit-eared girl hugged her novel and ran off, leaving the dumbfounded fox-eared girl behind.

"Silly rabbit," Annie patted her forehead and sighed. "Does she not know that Lucy already sent the first batch of printed books to the castle? To think she actually sneaked out to buy one."

Florence turned her head and asked, "Annie, are we still going in?"

"No need. Looking at this, she doesn't need our support at all," Annie spread her hands helplessly.

Tap, tap, tap...

The sound of hooves approached, and a four-wheeled freight carriage stopped beside Annie's carriage, loaded with stacks of books.

"Could all these be Lucy's novels?" Annie shouted to the worker on the carriage.

"Miss Annie, these are indeed Her Highness Lucy's novels. Several merchants have ordered a large batch of them," The worker quickly replied.

"Merchants? No wonder," Annie nodded in understanding.

Grumble...

A loud stomach growl suddenly rang out.

"..." Florence's cheeks turned bright red, and she subconsciously covered her stomach.

"Let's go have lunch. Let's eat pizza today. I haven't had it in a while, I kind of miss it," Annie smoothly defused the situation, pretending not to notice.

"Okay, I happen to be hungry too," Florence nodded quickly in embarrassment.

Lilith and Yuka exchanged a glance. Yet another new term had entered their minds. They began to look forward to it, wondering if this thing called "pizza" would be as delicious as the food in the castle.
