In the Southern winters, you can do anything, you can plant vegetables, raise fish, naturally, there are many more opportunities for livelihood than in the North. Life is obviously much better, plus with some coastal development cities, now with the reform and opening up, it's no wonder the South got rich first. It's not because they are particularly smart or capable, but because they have the advantage of favorable geography and a warm climate throughout the year.
