Amaya followed after Eizan. Sir Eizan paused, his muscular shoulders squared. He lingered for a bit before continuing on his way out. Was he thinking of staying?
Amaya raised her fan over her mouth and looked over her shoulder at the table. She turned and sat back down.
Had Eizan indicated to her to stay and watch? Lady Amaya had been watching us like a hawk all of this time. The same went for Setsugen's wife.
I'd faced both Raiyama and Kuroichi on the battlefield before and had managed to match their martial leadership, but I felt out of my depth politically. Eizan was brash, but Amaya– she was calculating, observant. I sensed she was gathering information, analyzing shifts in opinion among us. She was a realpolik, unafraid to maneuver through the complexity of our relationships and situations.
