Chapter 76 - Melissa’s Invitation – Afternoon, I-Island Commercial District

🧪

As the brilliant artificial sun above I-Island shimmered through the skylight dome, Melissa Shield beamed as she reunited with the rest of the group—Denki Kaminari and Minoru Mineta, who had strayed off into the snack courts after the earlier training session.

"Melissa!" Denki called out, cheeks stuffed with fried takoyaki. "You made it!"

Mineta waved a skewer, mouth full. "We thought you were off with Deku on a date or something!"

"Not a date!" Izuku quickly objected, flustered and waving his hands. Melissa giggled, finding his nervousness strangely charming.

"Well, I just came to invite you both to the evening reception," she said, reaching into her tote bag and pulling out two elegantly designed envelopes with a gold crest on the seal.

Denki blinked at the embossed writing. "This… this is the fancy stuff…"

"I'm gonna cry," Mineta sniffled dramatically. "An actual formal party with food and dresses and high society… and women."

"I made sure you'd be on the guest list too," Melissa added kindly. "You've all worked hard, right? You deserve it."

Denki grinned wide, wiping a fake tear from his eye. "I'm wearing my sharpest black-and-white suit. Can't wait to bust a move."

"That suit again?" Mineta said flatly. "You looked like a penguin last time."

Tenya Iida stepped forward, looking as upright and proper as ever. "Now that everyone's here, allow me to remind you: we meet at the main hall of the central tower by 6:30 sharp. Do not forget. That means 6:15 to prepare, and 6:20 at the latest to be present. Understood?"

"Got it," Denki and Mineta replied in near-unison, though Mineta looked slightly terrified of the consequences of tardiness.

As the group began to disperse toward their respective hotel rooms, Melissa turned to Izuku, gently tugging his sleeve.

"Midoriya, do you… want to stop by my lab for a second? I, uh, have something for you."

Izuku blinked. "You have a lab?"

"Yup! I'm technically a graduate student here. I've been working on something since the Sports Festival," she said, fidgeting with her gloves. "I think you'll like it."

"Of course!" Izuku replied, eyes lighting up. "Let's go!"

As they headed off together, Iida looked on approvingly. "What a polite and focused young lady," he commented to himself. "U.A. should consider international exchanges."

🧥 Elsewhere – A Very Unamused Bakugo

Meanwhile, in a more secluded part of the island, Bakugo Katsuki stood with his arms crossed, glaring daggers at a modest suitcase.

"You're joking."

Kirishima Eijiro smiled awkwardly, unzipping the case. Inside was a neatly pressed dark suit, tie, dress shirt, and matching shoes.

"Nope. Got it packed the moment I heard we were invited to a formal event. And don't worry, it's your size."

Bakugo narrowed his eyes. "And how the hell do you know my size, huh?!"

Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck, laughing nervously. "Uhhh… Kuro told me."

"Who else knows?!"

"Your mom."

Bakugo froze. His rage faltered for just a second.

"…That woman," he growled. "She'll talk about anything with anyone!"

Kirishima snorted. "She even gave me laundry tips. Said you never fold anything and just crumple it into the closet."

"Shut up."

Despite his protests, Bakugo grabbed the case. "Tch… fine. But I'm not doing this for them. I'm doing it to crush whoever tries to show off at the party."

"You mean the dance floor?"

"I WILL EXPLODE THE DANCE FLOOR."

🧔 Meanwhile – In the Shadow of the Tower

Back at the secure labs of I-Island, All Might, back in his muscular form, clapped a strong hand on David Shield's shoulder.

"I'll see you at the party, Dave. Don't be late."

"I won't," David replied with a smile that didn't reach his eyes.

As Toshinori exited the lab with that booming, hopeful laugh echoing down the hallway, David stood alone in silence.

He turned to the table, where a faded photo frame rested: a young Melissa, maybe six, standing next to a much younger All Might, with David beside them, all smiles.

His fingers trembled slightly as he touched the frame.

"I'll bring you back, Toshinori," he whispered. "No matter what it takes."

He turned to the far cabinet. A biometric scan unlocked it. Inside: blueprints. Micro-core resonance chips. A prototype casing.

He began to type in the access codes.

😈 At the Edge of the Island – Operation Begins

In a shadowy hangar tucked beneath I-Island's far dockyard, a low hum filled the air.

Metal crates hissed open. Inside were dozens of mechanical restraints, weapons, EMP detonators, and high-caliber firearms. A voice crackled over a comms line.

"The goods have arrived."

Atop a balcony overlooking the operation, a tall, broad-shouldered man wearing a heavy black mask adjusted his gloves. His face was unreadable beneath the reinforced alloy and visored helm.

A subordinate approached, whispering, "Boss… All Might is confirmed to be on-site."

The man turned slowly.

"Then we'll do it carefully." His voice was gravel and steel. "Call me Wolfram while we're here. We don't move until the signal. Understood?"

"Yes, Boss."

Another soldier read off the manifest:

Restraint collars: 32

Electro-pulse shackles: 15

EMP disruptors: 8

Distraction bombs: 10

Escape route: helicopter, rooftop level, fueled and ready.

Wolfram grinned behind the mask. "Our benefactor was generous. Just as planned. You know your tasks—hit fast, hit hard, and hit them where they think they're safe."

"Understood."

Wolfram raised a clenched fist, and the team roared in silent readiness.

Tonight, the party begins. But by morning, I-Island would remember who really held the power.
