Chapter 10 - chapter 10

A conversation about the use of a bathroom occurred when Sa-Na finally left the recording room, sitting beside Nam-Ra and ignoring everyone as she continued to stare out the window. They all began to move, creating a makeshift bathroom in the recording room so they could all use the bathroom.

Sa-Na's hands grazed the necklace, and she opened it up, looking at the photo inside with a small, almost unnoticeable, smile. Everyone took their turns using the bathroom while Sa-Na made her way over to the window, looking down at all the zombies, unrecognizable in the moonlight.

The conversation switched to how they'd all begun to lose that small shred of hope; nobody was going to save them. Nobody was coming. They were all going to die; they were alone. Suhyeok seemed to be optimistic as he told them they should wait until tomorrow to see what happens.

Sa-Na continued to stare out the window, feeling someone stand beside her. She didn't even need to look to know who it was. "Do you think she is still herself?" she quietly asked. "Does she still love photography and art like Da-Hyun, or is she no longer human? Does she no longer think like herself?"

Suhyeok thought about it for a moment, looking outside at the zombies. "I think she's still herself; she'll always be Da-Hyun, no matter if she's bitten or not," he told her softly.

The two looked at one another, slowly intertwining their hands and turning back to look outside.

The same person is on their mind.

The morning came around, and Sa-Na was the only one not to sleep. She just couldn't get herself to. Anytime she closed her eyes, she saw Da-Hyun's face, completely unrecognizable. Her once kind eyes were replaced with bloodshot, emotionless voids, whereas her smile, which had once warmed everyone's heart, was replaced by a cruel smirk.

Beside her, Nam-Ra slept peacefully on the desk, the only other person awake being Cheong-San. She slowly walked over to him by the window, standing beside him as she looked out the window. "No one came," he announced, staring in disbelief.

The whirring of a helicopter made the two look up, seeing various flies away from them. Nobody was coming; they all had other priorities. Sa-Na turned to the boy, taking her eyes off the zombies below. "I'm sorry," she suddenly told him, confusing him as he turned to her.

"What for?" he asked her.

"For constantly being a bitch to you and for yesterday," she hinted at what had happened in the recording room. "You were just trying to help."

"You don't need to say sorry; you were sad; it's justifiable," Cheong-San replied, turning back to look outside the windows. "Well, then, I'm sorry for the other thing."

commented.  "I don't know why I always argued with

you, even when you were being nice."

"I'm sorry too; I was kind of annoying." Cheong-San smiled at her, receiving one in return from the girl.

"You were more than kinda," she retorted, and the boy rolled his eyes.

"Yeah." Cheong-San scoffed, nudging the girl with his shoulder.

Silently, they stood together and watched the sunrise, ignoring the snarling of zombies down below. Their friendship was far from being formed, but it was slowly getting there, one step at a time.

Finally, after what seemed like years, everyone had woken up and was sitting around the table. "They'll come for us eventually." On-Jo sounded so sure, and her optimism was starting to bug Sa-Na. How could someone be so sure that they would make it out alive?

"How long do we wait?"

"Until they come."

"There's no guarantee they'll come, though."

"So? You want to go out there?"

Sa-Na moved out of her chair, going to stand by the window beside Ji-Min. She looked down at the zombies, her heart racing, when she saw Da-Hyun's red hair mindlessly walking around. She looked lost and confused. It was hard for her to pull her eyes away, but she finally did.

"Even if they come, they won't find us if they don't know we're here," Ji-Min added.

"Well, we can put up a sign for help," On-Jo offered.

"How?"

"I remember my dad teaching me a signal that's used internationally." On-Jo began to explain, recalling some information.

"What is it?" Hyo-Ryeong asked.

"It was red and blue arranged together," On-Jo motioned slightly with her hands, "to create some sort of pattern." She paused, not remembering what it was, and everyone remained silent until she changed her mind. "Should we write "sos" on a curtain, maybe?"

"Yeah, let's do that." Hyo-Ryeong agreed.

"We can't last long, anyway," Nam-Ra inputted. "Three minutes without oxygen, three days without water, three weeks without food."

"What's that?" Suhyeok asked where he sat on the ground.

"How long a person can survive?" Nam-Ra explained.

"It's only been a day, you know." On-Jo was trying to be optimistic, but everyone could tell it was hard. "We have to try the best we can."

Nam-Ra turned to face the girl with an emotionless look. "We'll show signs of dehydration today, and we won't be able to move by tomorrow," Nam-Ra continued her explanation.

"What are you trying to say?" On-Jo asked. "Are you saying we should go out, or...are you saying we'll die anyway, so we shouldn't bother doing anything?"

Nam-Ra remained silent for a minute, looking away and turning her attention to the table in front of her. "I don't know," she replied.

"Then don't say anything," Ji-Min snapped.

Suhyeok shifted slightly and looked over. "I think the prez means we should think about anything else that we can do," he commented, looking over at the girl. "Right?"

"No," she responded, and Sa-Na turned around to stop herself from laughing at the look on her best friend's face.

"No?" he repeated.

"We don't know anything at all," she explained, and Sa-Na turned back around. "We need to know something before we can make plans."

"What more do we need to know?" Ji-Min asked her.

"What Nam-Ra means..." Suhyeok began, and Sa-Na shook her head at her friend.

"You don't know what she's saying, either." Ji-Min cut

him off.

"No."

Everything went silent until Cheong-San finally broke it. "Are you saying we need to understand the situation in order to take action?" he asked Nam-Ra.

"Yes, that's right," she confirmed, nodding her head.

"Well, I totally agree with that," Cheong-San explained. "We need more information to decide whether to wait, run, or get out."

"What can we find out in this situation, and also, how?"

"We can check online if we have a cell phone."

"But nobody here has a cellphone," Sa-Na commented, moving to sit back down next to Nam-Ra.

"The teacher's office," he replied, hinting at where the phones were kept. He walked over to the window, and everyone gave him a confused look.

"Cheong-San," On-Jo called out, running over to him as he stepped onto the window ledge. "Stop being so stubborn."

"Two rooms across and one floor down at the teacher's office," he announced, turning around to face her.

"You shouldn't go," On-Jo replied.

"She's right, you know, it's dangerous," Sa-Na added.

"If I can't make it, I'll just come back, you know? Don't worry about me," he told his friend as she frowned.

"I'm not worried about it," On-Jo told him. "I'm pissed

off."

"Sure. Yes. Why would you worry about me?" he asked sarcastically.

He stood up, holding onto the windowpane as he navigated his way out and onto the outer window ledge. Sa-Na turned her attention to Suhyeok, who had just put his blazer back on. "No," she instantly told him, walking over to the window to stop him from leaving. "You're not going."

He reached into his pocket and placed the pills in her hand. "Hold onto these until I get back," he told her, moving past her and onto the window ledge. "I'll be navigating his way out and onto the outer window ledge." Sa-Na turned her attention to Suhyeok, who had just put his blazer back on. "No," she instantly told him, walking over to the window to stop him from leaving. "You're not going."

He reached into his pocket and placed the pills in her hand. "Hold onto these until I get back," he told her, moving past her and onto the window ledge. "I'll be back soon."

"Suhyeok, please don't," she told him quietly as he looked out the window and then back at his friend.

"I'll see you soon," he told her before following.

Cheong-San out

he room.

"When you come back, I'll kill you." Sa-Na called out to him.

He grinned and paused for a moment. "I'll hold you to it."
