Sophie was furious and stomped hard on his foot.
Is this the time for flirting? Is this the time for jokes?
Thomas Shannon let out a muffled groan and looked down at his foot. She hadn't held back at all.
The woman before him was practically bristling with anger. Thomas Shannon composed himself, pressed his lips together, lowered his head, and said, "Alright, I'll be serious. I'll be earnest."
"Bastard!"
Sophie angrily raised her rosy fists and struck him twice. "Is it fun to deceive me? And you even solemnly swore you'd never deceived me, Thomas Shannon! Don't you feel guilty saying that?"
Thomas Shannon drew her into his embrace with one arm, and Sophie struggled. "Let go! Let go of me!"
The man's arms wrapped tightly around her waist, holding her fast in his embrace. He buried his head in the crook of her neck, his deep voice authoritative, "Let me explain first."
Sophie stopped struggling, her face expressionless. "Alright, go ahead."
