-------------------------------------------------

The five undead closed ranks around Rades.

He stood at their center like a collector admiring priceless artifacts.

"Beautiful," he murmured. "Perfect balance. Isn't it?"

Jak the Freeze flexed his fingers, frost curling off them like smoke.

"YOU CALL THIS BALANCE?"

David moved first.

Mud surged outward from beneath his peg legs, spreading across the rooftop in thick waves.

The stone softened, liquefying into a slick swamp meant to swallow footing.

The sludge rushed toward Jak—

And froze solid.

Ice radiated from beneath his feet, overriding the mud instantly.

He didn't even glance down.

"PRO TIP."

-HEHE...

"CAN'T MAKE ICE SLIP."

Alfred tilted midair.

Lightning gathered above, crackling violently before crashing downward in a web of bolts aimed directly at Jak.

But as the lightning neared—It slowed.

The air around Jak shimmered unnaturally.

Frost crystallized in layers, temperature plummeting so violently that the lightning's motion seemed dragged through thick syrup.

Jak leaned sideways calmly, skating a half-circle as the bolts crawled past him in slow motion before slamming harmlessly into frozen ground.

"TOO HOT. COOL IT."

He spun, forming five snowballs in rapid succession.

With sharp flicks of his wrists—He launched them at all five undead simultaneously.

The snowballs struck—And detonated in bursts of explosive frost.

-BOOM!!!

But just as the ice expanded—A dome of shimmering mana snapped into existence.

Barrier Magic.

Carl stood motionless at Rades' side, single eye ornament glowing.

The snow explosions froze the outside of the barrier solid—ice encasing it like a crystal shell—

But inside—Rades and his creations remained untouched.

Rades smiled seeing Carl's barrier magic was holding its ground.

"As expected."

He tapped Carl lightly on the shoulder.

"Defense before offense."

Jak narrowed his glowing eyes at the frozen dome.

-Frown

"...."

The barrier held.

Wind began to spiral again as Michael prepared another strike.

Lightning crackled anew.

Mud churned under the ice.

Jimmy raised his elongated arm, curse bullets forming at his fingertips.

Five specialized corpses.

One summoner. And a barrier locking them together like a fortress.

Jak exhaled slowly. Cold vapor spilled from his mouth as he grinned through his sharp teeths.

"FINE."

Frost intensified, creeping higher up nearby walls.

"LET'S SEE HOW MUCH YOU CAN HANDLE AT ONCE."

Jimmy's elongated arm snapped forward.

Cursed fire bullets screamed through the air, dark trails slicing toward Jak the Freeze.

Jak didn't move. He simply pivoted.

"...."

-SCREEEECH!!!

A clean spin. A perfect Marseille Turn across his frozen path.

The world bent. The bullets slowed. Not just slowed—Dragged.

Their trails hung in the air like ribbons caught in syrup. Flame flickered at a crawl.

Sparks froze mid-spark.

Jak glided between them effortlessly.

"YOU GUYS REALLY NEED NEW MATERIAL."

Michael roared soundlessly as wind magic erupted around him.

Spike magic formed a storm of jagged lances that tore through the rooftop—some launching through the air, others bursting upward from the ground to impale.

But as they neared Jak—They slowed.

Each spike crept forward painfully, like time itself had thickened around him.

Jak leaned backward, sliding between rising spikes with casual ease.

Ice radiated outward from his body.

Temperature falling. Dropping. Plummeting.

He flicked both wrists.

Five frost shurikens formed—thin, razor-edged discs of compressed cryo-energy which is in the form of frost.

He threw them.

Carl reacted instantly—Barrier Magic surged up around Rades and the five undead.

But the shurikens didn't explode.

They didn't impact.

They stopped inches from the barrier—And began spinning.

Slowly. Silently.

Circling the dome like icy moons.

Rades frowned seeing this.

-Frown

"…What—"

His words dragged. His voice stretched unnaturally.

His grimoire pages turned in visible, sluggish arcs.

Everything was slowing. Even him. Even thought.

The spinning frost shurikens accelerated.

Cold intensified. The air itself crystallized.

The barrier's surface frosted over from the outside inward. Hairline fractures formed.

Carl's magic strained. Cracks spread.

-Cracks! -Cracks!

-Cracks!...

Temperature dropped further. The barrier began to creak.

Inside the dome, Rades tried to raise his hand—Too slow.

The fracture widened—Like glass under unbearable pressure.

Then—

SHATTER.

The barrier exploded outward in frozen shards.

Time seemed to crawl.

Michael's spikes froze mid-formation.

Lightning halted mid-spark.

Mud solidified instantly.

Jimmy's curse bullets extinguished in silent frost.

Rades' expression locked halfway between fury and realization.

Ice surged inward like a tidal wave.

Frost climbed their limbs. Encased torsos. Sealed faces.

Five modified undead. One summoner.

All turned into a single, crystalline sculpture of frozen defeat.

Jak stood before them.

The slow-motion field tightened one final time—Then released.

Silence.

"...."

"...."

"...."

The rooftop gleamed under moonlight.

Where Rades once stood—There was only ice.

And in that stillness—Rades Spirito's life ended without drama.

Without applause. Without witnesses.

Just cold.

Jak exhaled slowly, vapor swirling upward.

"…SHOULD'VE STAYED EXILED."

Below, the undead across the capital began collapsing one by one as their summoner's mana vanished.

The fires still burned.

But the horde was finished.

And the night—at last—began to thaw.

Across the capital, the undead stopped.

One by one—They collapsed.

Bodies that had clawed and lunged moments before now fell limp, dusting away into ash as the mana sustaining them vanished.

Magic Knights paused mid-strike.

"...."

"...."

"...."

Civilians stared in stunned disbelief.

Then—Cheers erupted.

They didn't know why the horde had fallen.

They didn't know who had ended it.

But they were alive. And that was enough.

Above the Western District

Jak the Freeze glided across the rooftops, scanning.

"ONE IDIOT IS DOWN."

His glowing eyes swept the city.

"LET'S SEE IF THERE'S A SEQUEL."

Then—He saw them.

On a shattered street below stood Fuegoleon Vermillion, speaking with Leopold Vermillion and Asta.

Jak's expression hardened. He knew that pattern. He knew that timing. He didn't hesitate.

A boomerang of compressed frost formed in his hand.

He hurled it.

-SWISH!!!

It sliced through the air—

And detonated just above Fuegoleon in a burst of freezing mist.

In that same instant—Jak vanished from the rooftop in a blink of icy light.

He reappeared within the dissipating frost cloud.

Before anyone could react—

He flicked a frost shuriken at Fuegoleon's feet.

It embedded in the cobblestone and began spinning violently.

"MOVE."

The command cracked through the air.

Fuegoleon didn't argue. He stepped aside instantly.

"...."

The ground where he had stood distorted—A portal tore open beneath it.

Dark. Hungry. Waiting.

The spinning shuriken amplified the freezing field around the portal's rim—

And time around it slowed.

Edges crystallized.

The portal's expansion dragged, struggling against the cold distortion Jak forced upon it.

Leopold blinked in shock.

"Whats that... A portal?!"

Asta stared wide-eyed.

"WHAT IS THAT?!"

Jak stood between them and the anomaly, frost spiraling outward.

"SOMEONE'S TRYING TO SNATCH HIM."

The portal pulsed, attempting to widen.

Jak thrust his hand downward.

Ice surged across the ground like a spreading fracture.

The portal's rim froze.

Cracked.

Shattered.

With a brittle snap, the space distortion collapsed in on itself, imploding into harmless frost particles that scattered across the street.

Silence.

"...."

"...."

"...."

Jak exhaled slowly.

"…NOT TODAY."

He turned his glowing gaze toward the rooftops.

Somewhere—Someone had just failed.

And they would not be pleased.

The air steadied.

Then—

A radiant green light flared.

Jak the Freeze dissolved into emerald brilliance, limbs shrinking, frost evaporating, until Ben stood in his place once more.

Before anyone could speak—A sharp screech cut through the night.

An anti-bird swooped down from the darkness, wings slicing the air.

Its talons clutched a purple magic stone, and in a swift motion it snatched the red stone necklace from Fuegoleon Vermillion's neck.

Fuegoleon's eyes widened—Too late.

The anti-bird flipped midair, releasing the red stone.

It dropped—

Straight into Ben's waiting hand.

The creature vanished upward into the night as abruptly as it had appeared.

Silence.

"...."

"...."

"...."

Leopold blinked. "What just—"

Fuegoleon touched his neck, then looked at Ben.

"…The stone."

Ben closed his fingers around it calmly.

"Yes," he said evenly. "This attack wasn't random."

He held up the red magic stone, moonlight reflecting off its surface.

"They were trying to take this from you."

Fuegoleon went still. He remembered. The warning.

The Eye of the Midnight Sun hunting the stones.

He had considered acting as bait.

Testing the enemy's boldness.

And tonight—

He had nearly been taken through a portal.

His jaw tightened.

"…I see."

He gave Ben a firm nod.

-Nod

"You were right."

There was no pride in his voice—only acknowledgment.

"I underestimated how direct they would be."

Ben met his gaze steadily.

"For now, I'll keep it in my possession," Ben said. "Until we understand their full plan."

Fuegoleon hesitated only a second before nodding again.

"That would be wise."

Leopold looked between them, mind racing.

Asta scratched his head.

-Scratch -Scratch

"So… someone was really trying to kidnap Captain Fuegoleon?"

"Yes," Ben replied calmly. "And they failed."

Inside Ben's mind—

A notification chimed.
