Chapter 289 - Dreaming

The commotion at the slum factory district of Stonepine City had turned into a media storm. By the time the sun rose high in the morning, the area was crawling with news vans, drones hovering overhead, and dozens of journalists crowding the barricades set up by city enforcement.

Bright camera lights cut through the drifting smoke. The air still reeked of burnt metal and ash, but the reporters spoke with the eager precision of sharks tasting blood in the water.

"Viewers, this is live from the scene of one of the most destructive supernatural incidents in Stonepine's history," one anchorwoman declared, standing in front of a heap of twisted steel and charred concrete. "The city's defense grid was supposed to keep threats of this level from even breaching the inner districts. Tonight's attack raises serious questions about whether our security is as strong as officials have claimed."

Another station's feed showed a grim faced reporter pointing to the smoke plumes in the distance.
