Chapter 67 - -Chapter 66-

The dark droplets gathered together to form a large amorphous mass with an exaggerated number of reddish eyes. A huge jaw filled with sharp teeth resembling those of a saw. "This is much better, don't you think?"

"How did you manage to break through Piximon's barrier?! Answer me!"

"Oh? Why should I answer? You're the Chosen Children and all that nonsense, aren't you? "Find out with your divine powers or whatever."

"... I know you're Vamdemon's subjects." I spoke cautiously, not knowing how much information I could reveal. Is he here?"

"My lord doesn't like to get his hands dirty with trash data like yours; instead, we don't find it here." Eyesmon replied as his form deformed into a slightly humanoid appearance, but completely incorrect in terms of proportions. "Oh! Pardon my rudeness, I forgot to introduce us."

"I am Eyesmon, Chief of Intelligence and Logistics for the Nightmare Soldiers," he said, bowing in a small, mocking bow before returning to his original position. "Also known as one of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse."

His form shifted again, returning to its previous state.

"My companion is none other than MadLeomon, our favorite little resident berserker. Another Horseman of the Apocalypse—"

"RAAAAAAAAAAGHHHHHHHHH!!"

Eyesmon and I looked to the side to see MadLeomon's arm detach from his body and fall to the ground before dissipating into a small shower of Data. A silver and gold stain seemed to wrap around MadLeomon's body before dissipating when the purple lion tried to strike it.

"I don't think there's a problem with your... What did you call it? Your little resident berserker?" I smiled mockingly before turning my gaze back to the thousand-eyed Digimon.

I expected to get a reaction from the Virus Digimon when it saw my partner seriously injure its companion.

However...

"Oh? Is that what you think?"

Eyesmon didn't stop smiling as he ran his long tongue over his teeth.

I took a step back as each of Eyesmon's eyes focused solely on me; it was like standing in front of Etemon again.

I began to feel as if my surroundings were turning gray with each passing second; without thinking, I called Filmon through the mental link, sensing that something was very wrong.

But contrary to what my pounding heart warned me, Eyesmon simply stood still, staring at me as he raised one of his many limbs, which still had eyes, toward the small mass of Data that had once been MadLeomon's arm.

"Gugen"

MadLeomon's Data was quickly drawn to Eyesmon's limb, forming a small greenish-pink cloud, which began to spin on its own axis. Still smiling arrogantly, Eyesmon deformed itself against the ground, dodging Filmon's surprise cut, and began to move at high speed across the ground like a huge snake.

"Kakakaka!" Eyesmon's amused but sinister laughter echoed across the field.

Although Filmon was clearly faster than Eyesmon, the large hedgehog could not catch up to the dark mass that was deforming its body, easily avoiding every attack.

It was like watching someone try to cut through water.

"Stay still!"

Seeing that his efforts were in vain, Filmon changed his target and aimed at the green and pink ball in an attempt to cut it with his claws, but the elusive Virus Digimon simply threw it toward a tree where a small drop of darkness easily caught the ball.

One of Eyesmon's many parts.

"It's like playing reverse hot potato..." I thought ironically before shaking my head and focusing on the fight.

Finally, I asked Filmon to back off, as his attacks would have no effect on Eyesmon and would only exhaust him. The hedgehog simply nodded before almost magically appearing behind me.

I glanced sideways to see how the fight against MadLeomon was going now that Filmon was with me. BlackGarurumon and Piximon were keeping the purple lion at bay with a combination of magic barriers, slashes, and bites; even though the lion had only one hand left, its strength was still considerable.

Turning my attention back to Eyesmon, I could see that the Virus Digimon had now reformed into one. The sphere on its limb was now an ash-white color with small flashes of light coming from inside it.

Silence fell over the field again, with Eyesmon looking haughtily at Filmon while the latter looked at it with incredible caution. Eyesmon's reaction speed must be astonishing if he could easily dodge Filmon's thrusts and slashes, given that Filmon is clearly the fastest Digimon I have seen so far.

Ignoring Etemon, of course.

"MadLeomon. Come here." Eyesmon's voice seemed to come from everywhere, making me shudder and quickly look around.

As if he had cast a spell on MadLeomon's mind, the lion suddenly stopped before taking a big leap toward Eyesmon, ignoring the cut BlackGarurumon had just made on his neck.

MadLeomon positioned himself behind Eyesmon, as if he were some kind of bodyguard.

"You can't win, Eyesmon." I stated the facts cautiously as I signaled Filmon to prepare to attack with everything he had. "We outnumber and outpower you, surrender."

BlackGarurumon quickly appeared at my side as he growled at the duo of Virus Digimon with hostility.

"Oh? You must be very naive if you really think you can defeat us just like that," the Virus Digimon smiled smugly as more and more darkness emerged from the forest and joined him, increasing his mass more and more. 'We've already won, and you haven't even realized it yet.'

I frowned in confusion at his response.

"What do you mean by—"

Suddenly, a small humanoid figure staggered out of the forest and stood just across from Eyesmon.

He was a little shorter than me, wearing exotic clothing and a dark blue wizard's hat that matched his cape of the same color. However, what was most striking about the Digimon was that much of his clothing appeared burned, and the Digimon himself seemed deeply exhausted.

"There are three of them?..." My throat felt dry at the thought of facing these three Digimon at once; sweat ran down my back as I gripped my Digivice tightly. "In the worst case, I could activate the emergency call... That should let the others know I'm in trouble here... If they don't have their own problems, that is."

"Ah, Wizardmon, just in... time..." Eyesmon stopped mid-sentence as he noticed the precarious state of the wizard, who apparently goes by the name Wizardmon. "What the hell happened to you? You look worse than that time you pissed off Tailmon."

That comment made the wizard snort in amusement before it was replaced by a painful hiss as he rubbed his ribs.

"I may have underestimated the Angel a little... and got beaten up as a result," replied the little wizard, grimacing in pain. He let out a dramatic sigh as he shook his head. "Man, I need a break. I don't get paid enough for this."

"We don't pay you."

"Exactly."

Eyesmon seemed to stare at the wizard with blank eyes before letting out a low murmur. Suddenly, the white sphere at the end of Eyesmon's limb began to deform into a long strip with a large circle at the end of one of its ends.

The white mist began to fade away, revealing a large staff made of what appeared to be wood and a large orange gem at the tip.

Without saying a word, Eyesmon threw the staff to Wizardmon, who caught it easily before inspecting it closely.

"Dudeeee" the little wizard whistled in awe as he swung the staff back and forth. "Not bad, but I would have preferred a bottle of vodka, you know?"

Eyesmon seemed to shake his head before turning his gaze back to us.

"Well... this whole show has been fun; we should do it again sometime. MadLeomon had a lot of fun, didn't you, big guy?" Eyesmon coiled around the huge berserker, covering him with his viscous darkness, though the lion didn't seem to mind in the least.

"Grrr..." The lion growled softly as he opened and closed his fist with his remaining arm.

Eyesmon simply let out a small chuckle before looking at Wizardmon. "If you'll do me the honor."

The wizard looked lazily at the mass of reddish eyes before shrugging. "Sure."

With an erratic movement of both hands, a sort of portal made of broken glass formed behind them. Neither Wizardmon nor MadLeomon waited for Eyesmon's orders before disappearing through the strange portal to who knows where.

The Digimon rose to its full height, making me realize that it was considerably taller than any of the Digimons present, even MadLeomon.

"We'll meet again, Noah Tatsumi"

I felt my eyes widen as Eyesmon's malevolent laughter echoed in my ears before disappearing with the sound of glass shattering.

I stared at the place where our enemies had disappeared before letting out an exhausted sigh.

"I agree with Wizardmon," I said with bitter humor as I turned around and headed for the house with the others. "I don't get paid enough for this."

"We don't pay you."

"Exactly."
