Hearing the sound of the departing car, Charlotte in the kitchen finally let the tears she had been holding back in her eyes surge and fall.
Why was she crying?
She had taken care of him for a whole night, and she was afraid that he would be unhappy when he woke up to discover that she had taken it upon herself to have the doctor give him injections and medicine. So she had cleaned the room spotlessly.
All he did was wake up without showing her any sign of acknowledgment, not stay to drink the porridge she had made for him, and leave in a hurry, that was all. So why should she cry for him?
