Jeremy Thompson didn't say much; after all, he had been in Bay City for three years, and Anna Ainsworth and the two children had always lived in Thompson Manor. His job transfer simply meant switching workplaces and offices—it was no big deal, just perhaps busier and more exhausting than before.
But for Joseph Thompson and Jonny Thompson, it was a completely different story. The changes were huge—Joseph had to move directly back from the United Kingdom, while Jonny had to fly from Singapore to the UK, then undertake the complicated task of relocating the UK branch back to the United States. It was a monumental undertaking.
Stepping out of the study room, Jonny complained to Jeremy, "Dad's no spring chicken anymore! And yet, he still acts on impulse. Isn't this just dragging us through his mess? Everything was fine when we moved along the right track, and now he insists on changing direction? What's the point of all this?"
