Chapter 11 - Breakthrough

Will had a frown on his face, and he walked out of the commander's office. When going through his score, he found out he hadn't reached the mark, yet he was being accepted by the military. His only thought was that it was because of the last mission.

The interrogation and everything said it all. The government was quite suspicious of him. Left alone on the planet and coming back alive when other high realm soldiers were unable to do so. Also, the transformation of his core made it more apparent - something had happened when he was left on the planet.

The military had accepted him just to keep an eye on him. Although through his family backing, he would have been able to reject the acceptance but decided not to.

'Get stronger, you need to become stronger,' he clutched his head, leaning against the cold wall, he closed his eyes, hoping to find respite from the relentless voices that haunted him since his return.

Every waking moment, he was plagued by these incessant whispers, urging him to become stronger. They echoed in his mind, becoming an incessant mantra that he couldn't escape.

Joining the military emerged as the sole path to bolster his strength. Within their ranks, he believed, lay the valuable resources and training he so desperately craved. It was a decision that carried weight and consequences, but he knew it was necessary.

For now, however, before he embarked on this monumental journey, he resolved to embark on one final hunt.

After the last hunt, he could feel it. His core had finally reached its threshold and was about to breakthrough to the next stage. For each level up, he gained a hundred per cent boost in his energy points.

He walked back to his dorm, arranging the little stuff he had left. After that, he went to the training room. He did a few warm-ups before sitting cross-legged on the floor. Looking deep within, his core was brimming with energy. He brought out the skill books he had been unable to use back then. He took his time learning each skill, deepening his understanding of his abilities.

As the sun gracefully set, time seemed to pass swiftly, enveloping the surroundings in an ethereal aura. With a sense of accomplishment, Will rose from the floor, gently wiping sweat from his brow. He had diligently honed his skills, acquiring a diverse range of skills that now formed an impressive arsenal for his forthcoming hunt.

Walking out of the training building, he headed straight to the forest. He had brought an intermediate tier beast weapon this time around. Entering the forest, he began venturing deeper into the forest.

He had heard people talking about higher level beasts at the centre of the forest. He navigated through the dense forest, killing some basic tier beast as he headed to his destination.

He activated his new skill as he got closer.

He could sense a lone beast drinking some water close to a lake. He dashed towards the beast, his sword drawn from its sheath.

[ Mutated white-tailed deer: intermediate beast low stage ]

The white-tailed deer was an intermediate beast with high agility and mobility. It is usually avoided by most students due to the difficulty of killing it. The beast, although mutated, doesn't attack one except it was attacked first. If one is able to hinder his movements, then killing it would be a lot easier.

Will swung his sword, which was covered in flame. A feiry arc shot out from the sword hitting the beast on its legs. He had done so to prevent the beast from running away. Injured and unable to run, Will quickly delivered a swift slash at its neck, ending its life. He then collected the crystal embedded in its chest and put it in a pouch bag.

He continued his journey, encountering another intermediate beast along the way. 'The aura here, its strong,' he thought as he silently moved through the forest. The beast's here, they are all above the low stage.

Just like the ranks the humans use to measure their strength. The beast also had their ranking; basic tier, intermediate tier, advanced tier, magical tier, emperor tier, legendary tier, mythical tier. The intermediate tier down is further grouped into stages: low, middle, and high stages.

His gaze locked upon a group of monkeys swinging from tree to tree. 'This is going to be a tough one,' he thought as he drew out his sword.

[ Red monkey: Intermediate tier ( middle stage ) ]

The red monkey were known for their ferocity when attacked. Their thick red fur made it harder for low beast weapon to pass through.

Will fingers start glowing as he stretches his hands towards the tree. Fire bullet! He swung his hands, releasing a large amount of fiery bullets, which shot at high speed towards the beast.

Caught off guard, most of the beast had been struck by the bullets sustaining injuries. Their red eyes locked upon Will as they let out a loud piercing scream.

Will swung his sword, releasing an arc of flames that destroyed some of the trees around the area, reducing their mobility. He then prepared himself for the arduous task of slaying everyone of the beast. It wasn't long before he flicked his sword, removing the blood of the last beast. His body was quite bruised as he had taken some attacks head-on.

"Just at the right time," a group of beast circled around him, their presence hidden behind the thickset of the bush.

A beast suddenly lunged at him from behind the bushes, its claws emitting a deadly glow under the radiant moonlight. Will rolled backwards with his sword set forward. The sword pierced through the beast fur, impaling its chest.

Fire surged through the blade, burning the beast from the insides. Fire came out from its mouth and eyes. The beast had died a horrible death.

He drew out the sword quickly, his gaze fixed on the bush. "It seems I have a long night ahead of me," he said with a sigh yet with eyes blazing with excitement.

Will walked out of the forest the next morning, his body drenched in blood. Although exhausted, he couldn't wait to get back to his room. Getting to his room, he sat cross-legged, channelling the energy to his core. His body was covered in sweat as he tried to steady the energy moving wildly.

Cracks filled his core as it exploded in a brilliant light, converging his body. Looking deep within, he could see his core brimming with power. Another layer had been formed in his core.

Finally, he had made a breakthrough into the middle realm. He flexes his arms, feeling the raw energy surging through his veins. Having accomplished his plan, he decided it was time to visit his family before the two weeks given to them elapsed.

He had a cold shower before carrying his stuff, all arranged in a duffel bag. Will headed straight to the portal station, his head clouded by numerous thoughts.

"Hello, how can I help you?" A young lady voice broke his thoughts, her smile radiating brightly.

He had finally arrived at the portal station building. Before one was allowed into the building, they would be checked thoroughly outside the gate with the purpose of their coming specified.

Will dropped a silver plated card on the desk, "I'm heading to the Sonoma empire," he said casually, his eyes scanning through the building. "And also... give me the VIP treatment. I need to be teleported straight at the Sonoma's building."

The lady froze, her smile slowly turning into panic. She quickly conveyed a message through a device before carrying out her next actions. One had to be careful when attending to the higher ups member in order to avoid getting into trouble. "Come with me," she said as she opened the steel gate, letting him into the building.

The building was empty as most of the students had gone home already. Will walked through the long hall following the petite frame of the young lady. His eyes slowly appreciated the interior design of the hall.

They entered an elevator, which took them down the building. Walking out, they stood before a large hall again with doors at each side. "The fifth door by your left," she said before walking away with hurried steps, entering the elevator.

Will walked through, his steps echoing in the silent hall. Getting to the fifth door, he paused, staring at the legend: 'The Sonoma's.' He pushed it open, slowly walking into the room. At the centre was a portal ring that had yet to be activated.

'Please wait for a few seconds while the device is being set up. A message would have to be sent to the other side in order to make a link between both portals.' Will settled on a couch at the corner of the room as he awaited the proceeding. 'System interface,' he muttered.

'Portal has been activated,' he heard the monotone voice once more. He stood up and approached the shimmering portal with steady strides. His emotions were well hidden in his expressionless face. With a deep breath, he entered through the portal. His vision was covered in colourful light as he was zapped in and zapped out of the portal.

"Welcome home, young master!"
