Chapter 1 - chapter 1

The first sensation Yugito registered was the cold hardness of the floor against his back.

His eyes snapped open. The ceiling above him was low and familiar — beige walls, wooden furniture, morning light filtering through a curtain he distinctly remembered from a loading screen. He sat up slowly, blinking the fog of sleep away, and found himself staring directly into the smug, half-lidded eyes of a Fletchling perched on his windowsill. The small robin-like Pokémon tilted its head, the scarlet cap of feathers on its crown catching the morning light, as if it had been watching him flounder on the floor and found the whole thing deeply amusing. It let out a short, dismissive trill before hopping off the sill and fluttering away into the morning air.

Yugito stared after it for a long moment.

Processing...

He looked around the room. The style, the layout, the faint sound of birdsong drifting through the window — all of it slotted neatly into a corner of his memory that he'd been exercising just a few days ago, controller in hand, replaying through one of his old favourites.

I'm in Pokémon X. The realisation settled over him with remarkable calm. Okay. Okay, I can work with this. Going by the setup, we're probably right at the start of the game's timeline.

He got to his feet, stretched, and crossed to the wardrobe. His trainer outfit was right where he knew it would be . Something was missing, though. He rummaged through the top drawer of his dresser until his fingers closed around a length of red fabric. He looped the scarf around his neck and adjusted it, letting it drape loosely against his chest.

He looked himself over one more time and allowed a small, satisfied smile.

That'll do.

He was halfway down the stairs when his mother's voice drifted up from below.

"Yugito! The kids from next door are here to see you!"

He quickened his pace and crossed to the front door, pulling it open.

Two girls stood on the step.

The first was bright-eyed and instantly warm — a girl with long brown hair pulled into curly, hook-shaped pigtails that framed her face in looping spirals, her star-shaped bangs fanning out above a pair of vivid green eyes. She wore a dark pink top decorated with three large black ribbons, a puffy frilled bracelet on her right wrist, and short denim shorts trimmed with black frills. Her pink ballet-style shoes matched the pink-and-white bag hanging at her hip, and her expression was pure, barely-contained enthusiasm.

The second girl stood a half-step behind her, composed where her companion was restless. She had honey-blonde hair tucked neatly beneath a dark pink hat with a black band, and blue-grey eyes that assessed him with calm, quiet intelligence. A black tank top, a red pleated skirt, and black thigh-high socks completed the look — understated compared to her friend, but no less put-together.

The first girl threw her hand up in a wave.

"Heya, neighbour!" Shauna said brightly.

The second girl offered a more measured smile. "My name's Serena. I live next door." She gestured to Shauna beside her. "Professor Sycamore has a task for five kids here in Kalos — and apparently, you're one of them." She paused, tilting her head slightly. "Though I'll admit I'm a little surprised he already knows you. You only just moved in."

Shauna bounced on her heels, clearly not interested in dwelling on the logistics. "We came to get you! You need to head to the next town — that's where you'll get your first Pokémon!"

"So now that's all sorted," Serena added, already turning to go, "we'll see you in the next town."

Yugito watched them head back down the path before turning into the house.

"Mum!" he called. "I'm heading over to Aquacorde Town. Apparently I've been picked to receive a Pokémon from the Professor."

Aquacorde Town

The town was small but lively, nestled between old stone buildings draped in greenery, with the quiet sound of flowing water threading through the streets. Yugito passed through the gate and spotted the group almost immediately — gathered around one of the low outdoor tables near the town square.

Serena and Shauna were already there, along with two boys he recognised at once.

The first was hard to miss. Tierno was broad and solidly built, with a cheerful, open face and a small topknot sitting atop a close-cropped buzzcut. He wore a baggy black t-shirt printed with a yellow Vanillite silhouette, loose orange shorts, and bright yellow high-tops. Everything about him radiated easy friendliness — the way he stood, the way he moved, even the rhythm of the fingers he was absently tapping against his knee, as though a beat was always running somewhere in the back of his head.

Beside him stood Trevor, who was noticeably shorter and considerably quieter. His bright orange hair was cut in a neat round bowl, and he wore a green-and-white layered polo shirt, dark trousers, and green trainers. He was turning a Poké Ball over carefully in both hands as he studied it, a HoloCaster tucked under one arm though he glanced up as Yugito approached and offered a shy but genuine smile.

"Oh," Serena said, looking over. "Yugito's here."

The group shifted to make room, and they spent a few comfortable minutes catching up introductions, chatter, the easy back-andforth of a group of people who knew they were standing on the edge of something bigger than they had words for yet.

Then Trevor set a sleek metal briefcase on the table and clicked it open.

Tierno straightened up and grinned. "Oh. Looks like it's time."

"Inside here," Trevor said, adjusting his grip on the case, "are three Pokémon. One for each of you." He looked around the group carefully. "Who would like to go first?"

"May I?" Yugito asked.

Shauna waved him forward without hesitation. "Of course you can!"

Serena folded her arms, watching him with a look that managed to be both composed and faintly competitive. "I suppose letting you go first gives me the advantage of choosing last." The corner of her mouth tugged upward. "I'll be able to pick whoever counters you."

Yugito gave her a flat look — then stuck his tongue out at her.

"Please," he said. "I'd still win."

He turned back to the case and looked over the three Poké Balls nestled inside, each marked with a small symbol. His hand hovered for just a moment before closing around the one marked with a wave.

He tossed it into the air.

The ball burst open in a flash of white light, and a small Pokémon landed on the tabletop in a crouch, droplets of water scattering from its pale skin. Froakie looked up at him with wide, expectant eyes, the cloud of white frubbles clustered on its neck and back catching the sunlight. It was compact and energetic, its blue body coiled with barely-contained potential and it held his gaze with an expression that was not quite a smile, but was definitely something close.

"Froakie," it said, voice small but confident.

Yugito looked at it for a second. Then he felt himself smile properly for the first time since waking up on the floor.

Serena reached into the case with quiet deliberateness. "In that case, I'll take Chespin."

"Yay!" Shauna scooped up the last ball with both hands, practically glowing. "That means I get Fennekin!"

Trevor closed the briefcase with a soft click and looked between the three of them. "Now that that's all settled — you should probably head home and let your parents know you're leaving on a journey." He glanced at Tierno, who nodded along agreeably. "It's the right thing to do before you head out."

Yugito looked down at Froakie,

(Thoughts)

No matter the wolrd or run I will always choose to have a froakie as my starter through the kalos region

A/N should probably edit this more. And I will later if need be but here you Finlay had a muse to write
