Chapter 31 - Chapter 31: I Surrender!

A hero saving a damsel had his thunder stolen. The guys expressed their disappointment but didn't say much. After all, the outcome was good; as long as everyone was safe, that was what mattered.

Then, they comforted Lin Siqi, patting their chests and spouting nonsense like, "Next time something like this happens, come to us! We're authoritative, we're effective!" This made the girls present roll their eyes. Such an incident shouldn't happen even once, yet they're hoping for a next time? After saying this, the guys belatedly realized their blunder, and their faces turned red with embarrassment.

Thankfully, Lin Siqi understood their good intentions and didn't press the matter. She just softly responded with an "Mmm," then packed her things and left the classroom.

Although she didn't show it outwardly, the incident today had significantly impacted Lin Siqi. She needed some time alone to calm down.

「Meanwhile, in the security department.」

After Zhang Beixing and his 'colleagues' had carried Dong Shengjie to a safe place, Zhang Beixing exchanged some pleasantries with the security captain. He then excused himself to go on patrol, separating from them.

The security captain didn't find anything odd about it. Instead, he marveled at what a good security guard Zhang Beixing was! Look at him! Even after such an ordeal, he hasn't forgotten his duties and is determined to patrol and maintain campus stability. If it were any other guard, who knows how much they'd be boasting by now!

He really is born to be a security guard! the security captain mused. He hadn't seen someone with such a pure heart in a long time! This made him even more determined to recommend Xiao Zhang to the higher-ups.

Little did he know that Xiao Zhang, the one he believed possessed such a pure heart, had just finished using the restroom. He was now standing in front of the men's room in the academic building, chatting with Zheng Jituo on WeChat.

Patrol? Maintaining campus stability? Bullshit!

Zhang Beixing had left solely because he was about to blow his cover! After all, he wasn't an actual security guard.

He had managed to deceive the security captain earlier, partly because the incident had happened so suddenly that the captain didn't have time to think it through. Another reason was Zhang Beixing's workplace experience from his past life.

Though that period as a lowly laborer was hard to look back on, it had indeed taught him some seemingly useless yet essential little tricks.

With these tricks, deceiving them temporarily—pulling the wool over their eyes for a short while—wasn't a problem. But keeping it up in the long run was definitely impossible!

Setting other things aside, if the security captain just asked one more question, like which team Zhang Beixing belonged to, he would be completely exposed.

So, rather than wait to be exposed and face extreme embarrassment, it was better to slip away early and let this blow over.

It has to be said, in university, as long as you don't break the rules, the identity of a security guard really lets you do anything! If you're in the right, even fighting in the classroom is no issue. Had that been a student, they'd likely have been dragged away by a host of teachers for a torrent of scolding and forced to write a self-critique. But then again, that's students for you—university cattle. It's just a pity I was too busy fighting and didn't get Jituo to record it. A one-versus-five beatdown, total domination! If that had been recorded, I could have bragged about it for a year!

Seeing Zheng Jituo's reply of 'didn't record' on his phone, Zhang Beixing felt quite regretful. He then shook his head, switched to Douyin, and started scrolling.

So immersed in the digital world, he was completely unaware that as time passed, a long queue had formed behind him.

And in this queue, many were tightly crossing their legs, staring eagerly at the closed restroom door.

These people felt very anxious and puzzled. Usually, during the week, only the women's restroom in the academic building had a queue. So why was the men's restroom also backed up today? It seemed like all the unfortunate souls cursed with urgent, frequent, and incomplete urination had gathered here today to commiserate in the restroom, huh.

"Damn it! What's going on up front? It's been minutes, why aren't we moving forward? Fuck! Can't you hurry up? I can't hold it anymore!"

Someone, unable to bear the pain in their bladder any longer, shouted loudly. His words immediately triggered a chain reaction, and a barrage of impatient shouts and curses followed.

Hearing their voices, Zhang Beixing finally came to his senses. He looked behind him and, upon seeing the queue of more than ten people, a puzzled expression appeared on his face. Then, he silently stepped aside.

Seeing this, the others immediately stopped their cursing and hurriedly stepped forward. They were afraid that if they were too slow, some unscrupulous people would cut in line, so they continued to wait anxiously.

Seeing them like this, Zhang Beixing wore an expression of utter bewilderment, like an old man encountering a smartphone for the first time. He simply couldn't understand this baffling human behavior. They clearly couldn't hold it any longer, yet they weren't entering the restroom, just standing at the door? There was no one inside!

Idiots! Zhang Beixing muttered under his breath. After some thought, he figured this must be some bizarre new trend. Thus, he suppressed his desire to help and chose to respect their fate.

Twenty minutes had passed since Dong Shengjie and his group had come looking for trouble. Zhang Beixing was just walking out of the academic building.

Zhang Beixing patted his stomach, wondering whether to splurge on a meal off-campus, when—

WEE-OO WEE-OO WEE-OO!

The harsh sound of sirens blared from outside the school.

Zhang Beixing looked and saw two police cars, one after another, entering the campus. Several police officers got out of the cars. One of them noticed Zhang Beixing in his security uniform and walked over. He pulled out his badge and said, "Excuse me, we're from the Shishi Police Station. We just received a report about a serious public brawl here. We need you to cooperate with our investigation."

Hearing this, Zhang Beixing's mouth twitched. For a moment, he didn't know what to say.

Saying he wouldn't cooperate was definitely not an option. But if he said he would... damn it, he was one of the people involved in this public brawl! What kind of targeted strike was this?

At this moment, the song 'In My Song' inexplicably started playing in Zhang Beixing's mind. The lyrics seemed so fitting for the current situation!

'Without any warning, without a shred of concern, you just appeared...'

Looking at the police officer in front of him, then at the clueless, onlooking students, Zhang Beixing, after a moment of thought, raised his hands with an honest expression. "So," he said, "if I tell you I'm one of the people involved in this incident, does that count as turning myself in?"

Police: "???"

Students: "???"

The scene suddenly fell silent. Everyone stared dumbfoundedly at Zhang Beixing, utterly confused.

Fortunately, police officers are, after all, police officers. Used to all sorts of situations, they quickly regained their composure. One of them muttered, "Let's go," and they escorted Zhang Beixing to their car.

After that, the police officers split into three groups. One group went to the classroom to find the person who reported the incident, confirm the details, and inquire about what exactly had happened. Another group contacted the security department of Shi University to coordinate. The last group—actually just one officer—sat in the police car, responsible for watching Zhang Beixing.

「Twenty minutes later.」

Dong Shengjie and the other four were brought back by the police and escorted into a police vehicle. Under the bewildered gazes of the curious onlookers, the vehicles started and drove away from Shi University.
