Naruto SI: Kaito Red Lightnin Chapter 169
Kaito shook his head. "I don't know. If Naruto ends up marrying Hinata in this timeline, then maybe. But even if he is born… he wouldn't be the same as this Boruto."
Boruto blinked, then turned to Kaito with a startled look. "Wait—how do you know who my mom is?!"
Kaito smirked. "Your chakra has traces of Hyūga chakra signature similar to hinata's families. And your face? Same shape as Hinata's. Plus, your name—Boruto—means bolt. That's clearly in honor of her cousin Neji, whose name meant screw. That tells me Neji dies in your timeline… probably saving Hinata, or Naruto, or both."
Boruto's mouth dropped open.
Kaito went on, smirking as he delivered the final blow. "And judging by how you looked at Hinata when we met up with my team… yeah, it's her."
Boruto stood there, gaping.
Sasuke's eyes widened slightly. This kid… he thought.
mpletely lost it. "HOW the hell did you figure that out?!"
Sasuke looked genuinely surprised too. "Seriously… how did you know?"
Kaito shrugged casually. "You were surprised when we ran into my team. But not just surprised—amused. Especially at how Sakura kept glancing at you. I just took a guess." He grinned, clearly enjoying their reactions.
Boruto just stared at him like he had mind-reading powers. "You're insane…"
…
Kushina stood up and gripped the table, leaning close to Boruto's face with an excited gleam in her eyes. "Wait, wait, wait… So Kai-kun's speculation is correct? Hinata-chan is your mother, and Naruto ends up marrying little Hinata?"
Boruto leaned back awkwardly but nodded. "Y-Yeah."
With that confirmation, Kushina sat down, a content smile spreading across her face. She clasped her hands together. "Those two would make the cutest couple." A soft giggle escaped her lips.
Her attention snapped back to Boruto. "So, how many siblings do you have?"
Boruto shrugged. "Umm… I have a little sister. Her name's Himawari."
Kushina leaned forward eagerly. "What does she look like? Does she have blond hair like yours, or does she take after her mother? I bet she's really cute."
Boruto chuckled, scratching the back of his head. "She takes after Mom. She has mom's hair color."
Kushina's excitement only grew. "Do you have a picture of her?" She was practically shaking him with enthusiasm.
Kaito, watching his mother's over-the-top reaction, let out a small sigh.
Boruto shook his head. "Ehh… I don't."
Kushina sagged slightly with disappointment. "That's a shame. I really wanted to see what she looks like."
Kaito chimed in. "Well, Boruto could transform into her using the Transformation Jutsu."
Kushina's eyes lit up instantly. "That's right! Boruto-chan, transform into her so I can get a look!"
Boruto looked over to Sasuke for backup—but Sasuke was calmly sipping his tea, pretending not to notice.
"Fine…" Boruto muttered, standing up. With a puff of smoke, he transformed into Himawari.
At the sight of "Himawari," Kushina couldn't contain herself. She glomped the transformed Boruto, rubbing her cheek against his. "Kawaii!" she squealed.
Boruto squirmed awkwardly. "Umm…"
Kushina eventually pulled away, still grinning from ear to ear. "Wait right here!" She dashed out of the kitchen before anyone could ask where she was going.
Boruto, looking confused, turned to Kaito. "Where'd she go?"
Kaito just scratched the back of his head. "I dunno. Sorry about that… she gets excited, ya know."
Boruto shook his head and gave a small shrug. "Yeah, I'm used to this. Grandpa Hiashi's the same way about me and Himawari."
Kaito tilted his head, curious. "So… how old are you and your sister? You look about my age."
Boruto nodded. "I'm twelve, and Hima's ten."
Just then, Kushina returned, carrying a measuring tape, a camera, a notepad, and a pencil. She placed the camera and notepad into Kaito's hands. "Kai-kun, write down what I say."
Kaito blinked, then shrugged and sat back down, flipping the notepad open and placing the camera on the table, ready to write.
"Hold still, Boruto-chan, let me take some measurements," Kushina said cheerfully as she wrapped the measuring tape around the transformed Boruto's waist.
Boruto did as he was told, but tilted his head in confusion. "Umm… sure, but why are you taking measurements?"
Kushina huffed lightly, like it was obvious. "What kind of grandmother would I be if I didn't give my grandkids some gifts, ya know?"
She moved around to measure his arms. "Now lift your arms—good. Kai-kun, arms: 51.5 cm."
Kaito, already seated nearby, jotted it down without question.
Boruto blinked. "Umm… but we're not really your grandkids, ya know…"
Kushina paused, then looked him straight in the eyes. Her voice softened, but carried emotion. "I'm sure the me from your timeline would've loved to spoil you, your sister, and even your mom and dad. So… I'll do it in her place."
Boruto stared for a moment, then gave a small, respectful nod.
"Now," Kushina smiled again, "make a clone and drop the transformation."
Boruto formed the Ram seal and with a soft puff, created a shadow clone and dispelled his own transformation. His clone transformed into Himawari.
Meanwhile, Sasuke sat silently off to the side, sipping his tea and watching the whole ordeal without saying a word.
Once she finished measuring, Kushina clapped her hands together. "Alright! Time for a few photos for my album. Stand together with your sister, Boruto-chan!"
Boruto sighed but moved beside the clone-Himawari. They posed quietly as Kushina smiled brightly.
"Kai-kun, take one of us together, would you?" she asked excitedly.
Kaito picked up the camera and snapped the photo of Kushina with her "grandkids," smiling as she hugged them close.
After the picture, Kushina turned back to Boruto with eager eyes. "Now, Boruto-chan… can you transform into your mom and dad?"
Boruto let out a deep sigh. "You're really into this, huh…" But he formed the hand sign again and in a puff of smoke, stood transformed—this time as adult Naruto and Hinata.
Kushina's eyes lit up with joy. "My, my… Naruto-chan grew up to be so handsome! He looks so much like Minato, ya know!"
Kaito studied the adult Naruto form and raised an eyebrow. "He looks tired… and what's with the short hair? Doesn't suit him."
Kushina playfully smacked Kaito's shoulder. "Don't be mean, Kai-kun. I think it looks good on him! Though… he could grow it out a bit, just like his dad."
Kushina looked at the transformed Hinata and beamed. "Oh my, Hinata-chan grew up to become quite the beauty. Naruto-chan is really lucky, ya know."
Kaito studied the adult Hinata more carefully now. She looked different from the vague childhood image in his mind—she wore a light lavender sleeveless dress over a long-sleeved white blouse, elegant and graceful. So this is what she becomes, he thought.
Kushina, still caught up in her excitement, let out a little chuckle. "It's almost like it's predestined that at least one Hyūga sibling ends up becoming my daughter-in-law in every timeline."
Kaito groaned and palmed his face. "Mom…"
Boruto blinked, tilting his head. "Uhh… what are you talking about, Obaa-chan?"
Kushina turned to him and smiled. "Well, in your timeline, Naruto married Hinata, right?" Then she looked at Kaito with a grin. "And here? I'm pretty sure her sister will be my future daughter-in-law."
Kaito sighed again. "Mom, please, I'm only thirteen," he said flatly, deadpan expression in full effect.
Boruto raised a brow, visibly confused. "Wait, what? That's… kinda weird. Aren't you a little old for Hanabi-neechan? I mean, Mom's only eight right now, so Hanabi would be, like, three?"
Kaito slowly turned and gave Boruto the most deadpan stare he could muster.
Kushina blinked, just as confused. "Huh? Who said anything about Hanabi-chan? I was talking about Hinata's older sister—Hotaru."
Boruto furrowed his brow. "Mom has an older sister? What are you talking about, Obaa-chan? I've… never heard of her."
Kaito turned toward him, expression serious now. "So Hotaru doesn't exist in your timeline either… or maybe she didn't survive." His hands clenched into fists on his lap.
He had always wondered about that. In the original timeline, there was never any mention of Hotaru—no records, no stories. Either she died during the Nine-Tails attack… or Danzo had taken her into Root during the Hyūga affair.
Kushina looked shaken. "Wait… are you saying… that Hotaru-chan might not be there at all in your world?"
Boruto shook his head. "If she existed, I'd have known. Neither Mom nor Hanabi-nee ever mentioned anyone else. They only talked about Neji-ojisan once or twice. That's it. If they had another sister, I think I'd have heard something."
Kushina looked heartbroken, her voice soft. "First Kai-kun doesn't exist in your world… then Itachi-kun… and now even Hotaru-chan…" She ran her fingers gently through Kaito's hair. "It's really depressing… hearing that the kids I knew and watched grow up either don't exist or ended up with such tragic fates in your world…"
Then Kushina suddenly perked up, as if remembering something. She looked at Boruto and Sasuke curiously. "Ah, I almost forgot to ask—why are you two even in the past? Did a jutsu go wrong or something?"
Boruto looked at Sasuke, nervous. "Uhhh… we're here because…"
But before he could fumble through a lie, Kaito cut in.
"They came here chasing an enemy from the future. He's after Naruto… for the Nine-Tails."
Kaito figured there was no point lying. His mom had a sixth sense for when he tried to hide something.
Kushina's eyes widened in horror. "WHAT?!"
"Calm down, Mom," Kaito said quickly.
"Calm down?! Calm down?!" Kushina repeated, rising from her seat. "How am I supposed to calm down when someone is trying to hurt my baby?!"
Sasuke spoke up, trying to ease the tension. "He's not here yet. We arrived ahead of him. We still have time."
Boruto thumped his chest, trying to reassure her. "Don't worry, Oba-chan. I won't let anything happen to him, ya know!"
Kaito snorted at that. "Yeah, sure. We'll probably end up having to save you first."
Boruto scowled. "Why, you…!"
At that moment, Kaito spotted something on Boruto's hand. He grabbed Boruto's wrist for a closer look.
"What's that on your palm?"
Kaito's eyes widened in immediate recognition. It was a Karma mark—he knew what it did: it rewrote a person's DNA into that of an Ōtsutsuki, effectively resurrecting the Ōtsutsuki once the process was complete.
'If I could somehow make a copy of that and create a seal based on it…' Kaito thought.
Boruto suddenly yanked his hand back, snapping Kaito out of his thoughts.
"Hey, what's with you? Don't just grab people like that!" he said, rubbing his wrist. He rubbed his wrist, frowning. "I don't know what it is. It just… showed up one day."
Kaito narrowed his eyes. "That's not just some mark. It looks like a seal."
"Let me see, Boruto-chan," Kushina said gently, reaching her hand out.
Boruto sighed but extended his hand toward her.
Kushina took a good look at the strange mark. Her brows furrowed as she traced it lightly with her finger. "Hmm… it's definitely a seal," she said slowly. "But I've never seen anything like it before."
Meanwhile, Kaito closed his eyes, gathering natural energy. When he opened them again, his imperfect Sage Mode had activated. Dark markings appeared around his eyes, reminiscent of Hashirama's, but with a slight slimy texture on his skin—an indication that he hadn't yet perfected the technique but was getting close.
Sasuke's eyes widened in surprise. 'He can use Sage Mode…?' he thought.
Narrowing his gaze, Kaito focused on Boruto's palm, He could sense it—faint, but undeniable. A small trace of foreign chakra was merged with Boruto's own, just enough to detect with senjutsu.
If he had to estimate, he'd say the integration was about twenty percent complete.
His gaze hardened. "How did you get that mark?" Kaito asked again, this time more serious—his voice low and sharp.
Kushina turned toward him, concern growing. "Kai-kun? What's wrong?"
Boruto fidgeted. "Like I said… I don't know. It just… showed up one day."
Kaito didn't blink. "I can tell when you're lying, Boruto. That mark doesn't just appear. If my theory's right, someone put it on you."
Sasuke, who had been quiet, narrowed his eyes. "You know what the mark does?"
Kaito shook his head. "Not exactly. But I've got a theory, based on what I can feel with Sage Mode."
He turned back to them, voice steady but serious. "I couldn't sense anything before. The chakra's isn't detectable using regular sensing. But with senjutsu, I can sense it, the chakra in the seal."
Kushina furrowed her brow. "And?"
Kaito pointed at the mark. "It's not just a seal. It's active. The chakra inside it is slowly merging with Boruto's own. Piece by piece."
He looked straight at Boruto again.
"I think that mark… is changing you. At a cellular level. It's rewriting your chakra, and maybe even your DNA, to match whoever's DNA is inside that seal."
Boruto's eyes widened slightly. "What…?"
"What do you mean, Kai-kun?" Kushina asked, alarmed.
Sasuke's expression hardened, his jaw tense. "You're saying… it's taking over Boruto."
Kaito shook his head slowly. "I'm not entirely sure. All I can say is that it's already taken around twenty percent of his DNA—or chakra—so far, ya know?"
He turned to both Sasuke and Boruto, his gaze serious. "If we're going to help, we need to know exactly where that mark came from."
Sasuke let out a quiet sigh. "It came from an Ōtsutsuki. The one we fought… he gave Boruto the mark before he died."
Kushina blinked. "Ōtsutsuki?"
Sasuke gave her a grim nod. "They're enemies from the future. Stronger than anything this timeline's prepared for."
The markings around Kaito's eyes began to fade as he released the gathered nature energy. He exhaled and rubbed his chin in thought. "Based on what I sensed, I think the mark is a way for that Ōtsutsuki to come back to life. Like… a resurrection tool, ya know. It's the only reason I can see for giving Boruto a mark that basically converts a person's DNA or chakra into that of a Ōtsutsuki's."
Sasuke's eyes narrowed. "Can you remove it?"
Kaito shrugged. "Maybe… but we'd have to study the seal first. I'm sure that if Mom and I work together, we can at least seal it off so it doesn't progress any further. I'll need to make a copy of it, though. That probably means you'll have to stay here a bit longer than you planned."
Kushina nodded in agreement. "Yes, we'll need to examine this carefully."
Sasuke gave a quiet nod of agreement.
Then Kushina turned to Boruto with a gentle smile, reaching out to cup his cheek.
"Don't worry, Boruto-chan," she said softly. "We'll figure this out, no matter what, ya know."
