When the dishes, soup, wine, tea, and snacks were served, everyone lined up according to their seniority, men to the east and women to the west. When the Old Duchess bowed after offering incense, everyone followed her by kneeling down.
After worshipping the ancestors, the men all withdrew and rushed to the Duke Weiguo Residence, waiting to pay respects to the Old Duchess.
Since the Old Duchess currently held the highest rank and most esteemed status in the Song Family, a few of her fellow sisters-in-law, also escorted by attendants, came to visit, exchanging greetings and laughter.
The sisters-in-law were also of considerable age, and after having only tea, they bid farewell and returned home.
The Old Duchess then went inside to change clothes, and proceeded to the main hall to take her seat. All the men and women, young and old, of the clan rose together to pay their respects to her.
They then sat according to seniority to receive the tokens of respect.
