Chapter 48 - °'•×Friendו'°

Aradia wondered which god she had offended in this life.

By the law of transmigration, Yeon Haa knew she would get involved with the main hero cast whether she liked it or not.

After all, survival is key during war. But why the hell does she keep meeting more people?!

The person sitting beside her was someone that should not be here, sitting beside her of all people.

Esther was a character that was only introduced after the terrorist attack.

She came over to heal people and naturally ended up getting tangled up with the rest of the protagonists.

In this magical world, mana was the raw material needed for magic. People would train themselves to be able to use a vast range of magic. Even so, there was always something that they would excel in more than any other kind of magic.

Like how Ellen was amazing at sealed magic, Clara was good at fire magic.

Everyone that can use magic, ultimately can also use a bit of healing magic.

Healing magic is a special type of magic where any and all wounds get treated but unfortunately, most mages don't have the ability to actually treat all types of wounds, at best they can do emergency first aid but they will ultimately still have to go to a healer.

How is a healer any different? Think of it like this: a professional doctor will forever have better skills than someone with a first aid kit.

Mages can only use their magic to temporarily patch themselves up for a while.

The biggest fact is that mages cannot use healing magic on others. Well, it's not that they can't, but rather healing magic is very tiring and requires a lot of mana, so most choose not to give others healing.

As for designated healers, well, they cannot use any other type of magic besides that. It is quite cruel in retrospect.

Stripping away all possibilities and being forced to use only one type of self sacrificing magic all your life.. it is quite sad.

Healers cannot really choose to be a healer, it is more like fate chooses them and people just have to learn to live with it.

'But to have a minor giving healing in such a dire situation..'

The academy staff seemed to be non-existent during the terrorist attack, after all, it was the students that were actually doing damage control.

Though there is actually a reason behind it. Most, if not all teachers and other academy personnel were actually trapped inside a dome of sorts.

A dome that was slowly shrinking, hell bent on crushing everyone to pulp.

Ellen was also stuck inside the clear dome. In Ellen' s words, "the dome was actually a breath taking beauty", it was a transparent dome with ripples of light going through it. It was a type of shield that was never seen before.

Not only that but it was practically impossible to break out of. But of course, no magic is actually invincible.

Ellen was amazed rather than panicking or distraught after being trapped. The man continued to examine the shield from the inside like a scientist looking at their pitre dish in amusement.

Anyway, that is truly the only reason it took a while for all the academy teachers and staff to be released.

As for Mei, she did try to break the shield but realised that physical attacks did not work at all, as a matter of fact, the physical attacks only made The dome shrink faster and faster. The only way to break out was with magic.

The one guy that was the best at magic was having a field day trying to dissect the shield in a not so "trying to break free" type of way.

The fact that Mei or the other teachers did not just shove Ellen towards the attackers as tribute the moment they got out was already a great show for their patience.

Esther was supposed only appear after the terrorist attack but since this world is no longer one from a novel but rather an actual world with living, breathing people, it makes sense that all the things that were simply skipped over in the original novel would actually exist.

Just because the novel did not bother to explain where the healer elf was does not mean she wasn't present at all.

Unfortunately, Aradia had the opportunity to sit beside her, which is not that big of a deal. Expect for the fact this damn elf is looking at her with sparkling eyes, looking very much like someone trying desperately to keep their mouth shut despite having a crap ton of things to say.

Which is strange. Esther was described to be a very shy and introverted person who needed a long time to finally warm up to others.

So much so, that she appeared very... Standoffish, cold and had a hard to approach vibe and definitely not.. whatever this was.

"Um-"

Aradia cleared her throat before looking at the girl sitting beside her, trying to act as calm as possible and totally not like she was having an existential crisis on the inside.

"The weather is nice today.."

Aradia wanted to facepalm. That was the best she could do? Seriously?! She could have said anything in the world but had to choose the worst freaking option.

Esther, though, blinked at her twice before smiling so brightly, it could rival the sun beams.

"Yes. It is a great day indeed. The academy's anniversary celebration would have been a bit.. hectic otherwise, no?"

Esther said with a slight tilt of hed head, causing her short grey-sliver hair to tilit as well.

"Ah, yes.. of course."

Aradia wondered what the hell was up with these random changes...

_______________________________

Astolfo was probably going to die.

Well, that is an exaggeration, however, with how the academy had been making him run around, he might as well be dead.

The academy's 20th anniversary celebration was all everyone could talk about since the moment the exams ended, allowing the students some breathing space again.

Astolfo, though, was not nearly as excited, simply because being one of the top students meant having teachers randomly give him tasks or sign him up for something without him even knowing.

It also did not help that he had to share a dorm with Ming Baishi for a while.

The white haired scholar really was not bad, in fact, Astolfo did not even realise the young man was present in the room half the time.

Unfortunately, Astolfo is still a noble and so sharing a room was without a doubt, uncomfortable for him.

So he decided to take a risk and try to "gently persuade" some administration personnel into thinking that they had forgotten about a students living condition.

Two kind reminders vaguely reminiscent of threats regarding talking about how poor the management was and Ming Baishi was off to his own room in no time.

The guy provided his own identification so Astolfo did not have to do much. Though it made the sage haired young man wonder why Ming Baishi had not just showed his identification since the very beginning and why Aradia's first thought was to make the guy play pretend to be a fake student when he could have very well been a real one.

Oh well, Astolfo will not bother questioning the reasoning behind their actions since it was an amusing sight anyway.

Astolfo was currently sitting beside Clara, as her and Isaac fought over yet another thing for the fifth time in one morning.

Astolfo cannot help but wonder how they have still not gotten tired of fighting everyday.

He only lightly glanced at the decorations, after all, he was the one who was unfortunately dragged out of bed to help out with these things to begin with.

As Astolfo continued to look around, he spotted a very familiar looking red head sitting a little far away.

He wondered why Aradia was sitting so far away instead of with them but.. stealing a quick glance at the two siblings beside him, he quickly understood why.

Though beside the red head sat an elf he has never seen before. The elf head a head full of shaggy grey-silver hair and large blue eyes. Her elf ears were medium sized and dropped down a little.

Elves were identified using their ears. The shorter the ears, the weaker the elf, the longer the ears, the stronger the elf.

It is rumoured the elf queen had ears nearly the size of one's forearm.

Well, at least the two seem to be having a good conversation.

Astolfo decided to take a walk around, since there was still a while before the event would start.

After excusing himself, he headed inside the academy building again. He was going to grab a snack from the cafeteria and maybe rest in his room for a little bit.

The cafeteria hardly had any people present since everyone was either still running around making last minute adjustments or already sitting outside.

However there was one person present that Astolfo believed should most definitely not be.

It was Samael Van Enger.. the crown prince.

The Rain kingdom's royal family, the Enger family was well known all throughout the west. After all, their influence was on par with the empire.

Samael was very popular at the academy. Of course much of it was because he is the crown prince but also because of his looks and abilities.

He had the signature bright silver hair of the royal family and clear icy blue eyes. Despite training outside in the sun everyday, he still had flawless pale skin, oh to be a royal.

He always has a charming smile present of his face, making people naturally feel at ease with him.

Currently though, Samael seemed to be in deep thought since there was no hint of a smile on his face, as a matter of fact, he appeared quite cold, especially because of his icy blue eyes.

Astolfo decided he was not going to deal with whatever this situation was that fate was trying to push him towards and quietly tried to leave like he did not even come here in the first place.

Unfortunately, as luck would have it, Samael looked up and met Astolfo's gaze head on at that right moment.

And of course, Samael presented Astolfo with a blindingly bright smile.

'Well fuck'

Fate had been really working overtime for Astolfo these days. The amount of times he had ran into the crown prince was unfortunately way to much for his heart to comfortably handle.

Astolfo was not close to the royal. He had seen him on the passing a few times in the past but that was basically all that there was to their "interactions", however, ever since the two weeks of exams, he ran into the crown prince seemingly every turn of the way.

That is what led to them finally sharing greetings and making some useless chit-chat.

"Your highness."

Astolfo lowered his head a little as he greated the young man. Even though the academy claimed every student, no matter their background, were all equal once inside the academy, it was a well known that royal family members were still treated as royalty.

"Oh please, no need for such formality. Please, take a seat."

Samael smiled, his eyes curving into cresents before simply gesturing to the seat opposite of him.

Astolfo wonders why he has to suffer like this, he would much rather be doing anything besides this.

But of course, Astolfo only politely smiled and sat down.

He could not agree to Samael's request if he wanted to survive. Formality was something that Astolfo would continue to act upon no matter what.

Otherwise it will only take a day before he is executed for some stupid reason, like: "not respecting royalty enough."

Besides, he had no intentions of being close to the crown prince more than necessary, and not using formality would imply they are close, so no, hard pass.

Being close to royalty was supposedly great, however, Astolfo found that more times the not, it came with far too many strings attached.

Maintaining the delicate balance of these strings.. it was something Astolfo was by no means good at.

And Astolfo did not engage in things he was not good at.

Bonus: *states*

"What state do you live in?"

Aradia: constant anxiety

Astolfo: denial

Issac: perfection

Clara: florida

Lir: liquid

To be continued...

What's up people, it's me Yan and I'm actually here with a new chapter without going MIA yippee

Is the chapter late? Of course, did I post though? Yes, and that's what counts, literally lmao

Anyway, I was not expecting to suddenly write from Astolfo's pov but here we are, also our two protagonists seem to have found two new grey haired friends lmao

Both of them having grey hair was completely coincidental, in a fantasy world you can only use so many hair colours before you run out colours

Anyway, I've been waiting FOREVER to finally introduce my guy Samael, and he's finally here EHEHEHEHE

Anyway, two new characters to keep track of, but hey, at least they are cute

Anyway, you know the drill by now

Once again please forgive this lowly author for any grammatical errors

Have a great day/afternoon/evening or night

And I will see you all in the next chapter where things will finally get exciting, trust me bro

Anyway,

Peace
