-Chapter 9: Combat Training 101-
Today was the first "normal" day of school. Since I'm in the hero course that means I have a class dedicated to kicking villain butt, but that comes in the afternoon. The first class of the day is English with Present Mic.
"Now, which of these four sentences contains a mistake?" Mic asks the class only to get a mix of blank stares, bored faces, and a single tentative listener, one blue-haired guess on who. "Ok if there are no volunteers then I have to pick." The blonde looks over the class to choose the native English speaker. "Tennyson, what is the incorrect sentence?"
Not paying attention Ben quickly looks at the board and blurts out an answer "Er, number three, no four."
"Four would be correct. Just because this is your first language doesn't mean you can't pay attention."
When lunch rolls around the wielder of the Omnitrix is surprised by a hero in the kitchen.
"I can't believe Lunch Rush is here to cook our lunches!" Izuku starts to geek out over the pro, "He normally does rescue work by cooking meals for both heroes and civilians during a crisis." That was the last Ben could understand before the green-haired boy became a muttering mess.
After lunch that is where the fun begins. Hero Basic Training, the reason this school exists.
"I, AM, HERE!" Came a booming voice came from the doorway. The class looks over to see All Might holding onto the door frame as he leans through it. "Coming through the door like a hero!"
The class begins to get excited seeing the symbol of peace in the classroom. Everyone has their comment to say before being calmed down by the mountain of a man. With his fists on his hips in the typical power stance
"Welcome to the most important class at UA High. Think of it as "Hero-ing 101." Here you will learn the basics of being a pro and what it means to fight in the name of good!" All Might then winds up like he is going to throw a devastating punch only to reveal an index card that says "BATTLE" in bold red letters "Let's get into it. Today's lesson will pull no punches! But one of the keys to being a hero is looking good!" The titan points to the wall to reveal several panels on the wall with suitcases each with a seat number on it. "These were designed for you based on your Quirk registration forms and the requests you sent in before school started. Get suited up and meet me at Training Ground Beta!"
The class begins to erupt into cheers and excitement when it was revealed everyone would have their costumes.
"Mr. All Might sir!" came the voice of Iida, "I notice that seat number 14 is missing. I am afraid that Tennyson's costume was not made or delivered."
"Good eye young man. You would be correct Young Tennyson doesn't have a costume because he requested not to have one." All Might informed the class.
"Why didn't you request one!" Mina called out all but forgetting Ben needed personal space.
Taking a step back, Ben attempts to calm the pinkette down, "When I transform my support item makes a uniform for me so having an outfit for human me is a little pointless. Besides, it means I can wear this," Ben says, as he pulls out his green leather jacket. "Grandpa gave it to me when he learned I wanted to be a hero saying 'every good hero needs a signature look.'"
Looking into his emerald eyes, Mina smiles; remembering how much his grandfather means to the transforming teen. "Ok, I guess that is a good enough reason not to have a costume made." The acid user says over dramatically.
Not long later at Site Beta, All Might awaits for Class 1-A. The group of young students comes striding through a dark tunnel that leads to today's training area.
"They say that the closes make the pros, young ladies and gentleman, and behold, you are the proof!" The number one hero announces as everyone exits the tunnel. "Take this to heart. From now on you are all heroes in training! Shall we get started newbies?"
Everyone in the class has a unique look to them from the standard spandex you would expect from a comic book to a martial arts Gi to more casual wear. Bakugo is wearing black and orange combat gear with large grenade-like gauntlets. Iida but this seemed more flexible and streamlined. Eijiro was shirtless with large gear-like shoulder pads. Mina was wearing a purple and green camo leotard with a fur-trimmed coat topped with a domino mask. Ben was one of the last people to leave the tunnel wearing his signature green jacket, blue jeans, and a black shirt.
"BEN!" Cried Mina jumping over to the wielder of the Omnitrix, "What do you think of my outfit?"
Seeing how well the material hugs her figure the young man starts to blush. "It looks great on you Mina. Is it acid resistant?" The brunette asks, trying to change the topic.
"Yeah, the material was custom made to not be destroyed by my acid. I bet it could even survive the acid blood from that movie!" The pinkette proclaims.
The rest of the class is having similar conversations before they notice All Might fight the urge to laugh muttering "You're so obvious." Following his eyes, they can see that Midoriya has finally come out of the tunnel. The young man is wearing a light teal jumpsuit with a breathing apparatus over his mouth and large bunny ear-like protrusions coming out of his hood.
"Now that you are ready, it is time for combat training." The living mountain announces
"Sir, this is the fake city from our entrance exam. Does that mean we will be conducting urban battles again?" Came the echoed voice of Iida inside of his helmet.
"Not quite, I am going to move you two steps ahead. Most of the villain fights you see on the news take place outside. However, statistically speaking, run-ins with the most dastardly evildoers take place indoors." All Might explains before he continues, "Think about it. Backroom deals, home invitations, secret underground lairs. Truly intelligent criminals stay hidden in the shadows. For this training exercise, you'll be split into teams of good guys and bad guys and fight two-on-two indoor battles.
"Isn't this a little advanced?" Questioned a frog-like girl
"The best training is what you get on the battlefield! But remember, you can't just punch a robot this time. You're dealing with actual people now."
The class then bombards the teacher with an onslaught of questions catching the man off guard. Trying to get back on track, All Might pulls a piece of paper out from his back pocket that is barely bigger than his palm. "The situation is this. The villains have hidden a nuclear missile somewhere in their hideout. The heroes must try and foil their plans. To do that the good guys either have to catch the evildoers or recover the weapon. Likewise, the bad guys succeed if they protect the payload or capture the heroes. In order to choose teams, we will be drawing lots!" The number one hero proclaims holding a yellow box containing everyone's name.
"Isn't there a better way?" Iida questions
"Think about it, you can't always be working with people you know in the field," Ben informs the armor-wearing teen.
"Yes, I see. Life is a random series of events. Excuse my rudeness." Iida says with a bow.
"No sweat. Let's draw!" All Might yells to the sky.
After drawing lots ten teams were made and divided. The hero teams consisted of teams A, B, E, G, and H which consisted of Midoriya and Uraraka, Todoroki and Shoji, Aoyama and Mina, Kaminari and Jiro, and Tokoyami and Asui. The villain teams were made up of teams C, D, F, I, and J which had Ben and Yaoyorozu, Bakugo and Iida, Sato and Koda, Ojiro and Hagakure, and lastly Eijiro and Sero.
"Now that the teams are decided, I declare that the first team to fight will be these guys!" The teacher calls out pulling out the lots for teams A and D." Everyone else can head to the monitoring room to watch!"
The class responds with a uniform "Yes, Sir!"
As the class dispersed to head to the monitor room Ben notices Midoriya shaking where he is standing as the asshat that is Bakugo starring the greenette down. Breaking his line of sight Ben walks in between the two. "Don't let the pomeranian get you down. He may be lower than you but you have the power on him." Ben quickly says giving the nervous teen a thumbs up before running to catch up with the rest of the class.
Now in the monitor room, All Might speaks into a microphone to let the examiners know "Bad guys, you can go on in and get set up. In five minutes, the good guys will be set loose and the battle will start! Young Iida. Young Bakugo. The key to being successful in this challenge is to embody villainy. Think from the perspective of the evildoer. If things go too far, I'll step in."
On the monitors, the class can see the villains making their way to the device, Iida now has his helmet off.
"What are they saying?" asked an invisible girl named Toru Hagakure
"I'm not sure, but Bakugo seems to be annoyed" Denki Kaminari a blonde-haired boy with a black lightning bolt going through his bangs, the boy is wearing a white shirt with a black leather jacket over it. White lightning bolts accent the collar of the jacket.
"Before the fight starts what do you students predict will happen?" All Might questions
"Considering the personalities involved I would assume that Bakugo will be the first to engage with the enemy." a taller girl with a large ponytail wearing a red singlet that is open from the navel to the neckline named Momo Yaoyorozu starts. "But considering Iida's speed the smart thing would be to send him out first to either separate the heroes to fight them one on one or to distract them long enough to allow Bakugo to take them out at the same time."
"But don't forget the power that Midoriya has," interjected Eijiro "one punch and the villains are done." the redhead finishes with his own punch
"Eijiro don't forget that Midoriya's body can't handle the backlash of his strength." Ben counters "If he misses his punch he is out of the fight. The best thing to do is to use Ururaka's ability to get to the roof or the fifth story at least. From there Midoriya could use his strength to destroy half the building effectively cutting the area they have to search in two. Hopefully, they catch either Bakugo or Iida in that blow so it becomes a one-on-one, even better if they get both of them. If they don't catch either of them in that blow Bakugo has something out for Midoriya. Bunny boy would need to use himself as bait to lure Bakugo away from Ururaka so she can handle Iida and the bomb. She would only need to touch him and his speed becomes useless. Iida can't run if he isn't touching the ground. After that, she deactivates the bomb and the heroes win. Plus as Yaoyorozo said earlier I will bet you five bucks that Bakugo will be the one to attack first leaving Iida behind."
The class just sorta stares dumbfounded at Ben.
"What? Do I have something in my teeth?"
"No, not that you were able to find counters for both Bakugo and Iida," Mina says while leaning over to the brunette.
"Oh, well when you have an ability so varied like mine you sorta need to think of what counters what." The emerald-clad teen nervously states while scratching the back of his head.
"I've been meaning to ask Tennyson how many forms do you have? You showed off five yesterday and going off of what Kaminari said yesterday about a Mothman I'm assuming you have more." Asked a boy with heterochromatic eyes along with white and red hair perfectly bisected down the middle of his head, his name being Shoto Todoroki.
"Honestly, it's a little hard to say my support item is constantly filtering my DNA essentially unlocking new forms for me to use. But at the moment I have about sixty forms." The Omnitrix Weilder responds with his left eye twitching
"SIXTY!" most of the class proclaims.
"If each of those forms has different quirks then you might be one of the strongest students in class!" cried Hanta Sero.
"Yeah, Grandpa always believed I could anyone if I put my mind to it."
"I bet he is proud of you for making it to UA," Mina interjects.
"Thank you," Ben says with a slight blush.
Getting the attention of the class All Might says "Thank you for your insight, Young Tennyson. It is now time to see if your predictions come true." Turning to the microphone "Five minutes are up Heroes you are clear to enter the building.
Through the cameras, the class can see the hero team climb through the back windows. The duo proceeds to sneak their way through the first floor checking corners and playing it safe. Once they make it to the second story is when things change. As the class predicted the blonde bomber made the first move, dealing a sneak attack from around a corner with a right hook releasing an explosion at the heroes. Midoriya was barely able to pull his teammate out of harm's way as the left side of his mask gets destroyed.
"What did I say Bakugo attacks first!" Ben proclaims throwing his arms into the air.
"Yeah with a sneak attack. What kind of a man pulls cheap crap like that?" questions Eijiro
"It's a viable strategy. He is playing the part. Acting like a true villain would." All Might answers the young man's inquiry.
"It didn't work. Look Midoriya dodged him!" Mina exclaims loudly.
"Those two do seem to have a history," Ben interjects.
"And they are back to the races!" Kaminari cries
Bakugo starts charging at the hero team throwing another right hook only for the greenette to grab hold of the limb before twisting and throwing the bomber over his shoulder slamming the boy into the ground and knocking the wind out of him. As the explosive teen stands back up Midoryia seems to be talking to him and gets into a wobbly fighting stance but the class can't hear what.
Bakugo releases an explosion rocketing him forward. The explosive boy attempts to roundhouse kick the nervous boy in the head only to be blocked at the last second. Uraraka makes a mad dash in the opposite direction.
Fueled with anger the ash blonde throws another right hook detonating his palms and blowing a hole in the wall. Midoriya retreats around the corner.
"Wow, the little dude is doing pretty good." comments a large muscular boy in yellow spandex named Rikido Sato.
"Yeah, he is holding his own and he hasn't even used his quirk yet." Sero continues the thought.
"That maybe for the better," Ben comments "if he misses his shot then he is down an arm. He should either corner Bakugo or grab hold of the hothead and sucker-punch him."
Bakugo takes chase after the greenette only to lose him after three turns. The "villain" starts screaming into the ceiling releasing a series of small explosions in his palms.
"Just as Yaoyorozu predicted Bakugo is solely focused on Midoriya," Ben says thinking out loud.
"Yeah, whatever is going on between those two, that guy has some real anger issues." Kaminari comments
"Anger, and going off of how he walks I'm guessing he is extremely prideful too." the emerald-clad teen states
"How so?" Yaoyorozu asks
"Ignoring the fact he called some of the guys 'extras' in the locker room yesterday. When he isn't hunched forward liking like he is going to kill anyone who gets in his way he has a shit-eating grin on his face that says 'I'm better than you and I know it.' The cherry on top I bet that people turned a blind eye to him going up because of his admittedly badass power." Ben quickly lists off. The emerald-clad teen has always been good at reading people, he thinks it's because of his Anodite lineage. Since he didn't get the spark of the Anodites like his cousin, Gwen who can see the life energy of people, the lingering effects of the alien DNA allow him to get a strong vibe of someone's intentions and personality within a minute of meeting them.
"With a quirk like his, I wouldn't be surprised if people did." Yaoyorozu contemplates the truth behind that statement.
"Look on the left monitor Uraraka made it to the bomb!" Hagakure calls out
On the screen, the class could see the pink-clad girl peaking around a pillar looking at a large missile and the armored form of Iida. The boy seems to be in thought. Before turning around. Uraraka begins to giggle giving her position away.
"I'm guessing Iida just got into character" Ben mused to himself
"Looks like Bakugo found Midoriya!" Kaminari calls out.
Gazing over to the main screen, everyone can see Bakugo holding his right arm up pointing it at Midoriya the left arm is holding onto the leaver of the grenade-like gauntlet.
"YOUNG BAKUGO! DON'T DO IT! YOU'LL KILL HIM!" All Might demands into the microphone.
Not listing to the teacher the explosive young man pulls the pin to his gauntlet releasing a massive explosion catching his opponent and half the building in its wake. The ground shook from inside the monitor room.
"Jesus Christ! What the hell was what?!" Ben calls out looking at the monitors to see half of them become static
"Come in! Come in, Midoriya!" the teacher calls into the microphone.
The class can see a light green figure sitting up from the smoke on one lone monitor through a fuzzy resolution.
Upon a separate monitor Uraraka charges at Iida. He charges at her in return but before the boy gets close the pink-clad hero makes herself weightless floating over her adversary and to the objective.
The missile is suddenly moved to the other side of the room, so quickly that if you blinked you would've missed it, outside of the hero's reach. Since the missile is only a prop it can easily be lifted and moved. This detail along with his quirk, allowed Iida to move the weapon so quickly. In a panic, the floating girl roughly lands on the ground only to roll into the wall.
"Sir, this is starting to get out of hand," Eijiro informs All Might.
"I'm with Eijiro on this, Bakugo is taking this too far." Ben chimes in supporting his friend.
"Bakugo," All Might starts into the microphone "Use that stored-up power again and I'll stop this fight! Your team will lose. To employ such a strong attack indoors is inviting the destruction of the stronghold you should be protecting. That's a poor strategy, whether you're a hero or a villain. The penalty for this action is a massive loss of points.
In a fit of anger the rage-fueled teenager rockets himself at his opponent. Stuck in place Midoriya attempts a counterattack only to be blinded by a smoke screen created by a small explosion in front of him. Bakugo using the counter force of the explosion flips himself over the hero and releases an explosion into the young man's back.
"He doesn't come off as a guy with a strategy but he's actually quite intelligent." Todoroki thinks out loud.
"What are you talking about?" Eijiro questions
"He changed his trajectory mid-air using a blast that doubled as a smokescreen. Very clever."
"A feint attack like that requires an extreme amount of precision. He had to calculate the physics and demonstrate control over his quirk." Yaoyorozu finishes the heterochromatic teen's thought.
Back on the screen, Bakugo throws a powerful right hook before grabbing his opponent and slamming the boy to the ground with the assistance of his explosions. Midoriya's body hits the ground so hard that he bounces into the air about a foot.
After that visual, the class is starting to show their doubts about the chances of Midoriya coming out on top. Stating that Bakugo is very suiting for the role of villain, and how even though Midoriya has power he is just out-skilled.
"Don't count him out yet. Look! He is getting back up." Ben calls out being the only one who can believe the greenette still has a chance.
Making a last-ditch effort Midoriya makes his way over to the windows. The boy turns around heaving training to get air back into his system. Surprisingly it seems that Midoriya is the yelling and not Bakugo. The battered young man clinches his fist as he dashes at the blonde bomber.
On a separate screen, Uraraka suddenly grabs hold of a support pillar only for the next instant the floor in front of her gets destroyed. Looking back to the brawling teens the class can see that Midoriya instead of dealing a finishing blow to Bakugo, he threw an uppercut that tore through the building sending a powerful air torrent through the battle arena knocking Bakugo against the opposite wall. Midoiya is barely standing his bones in his right arm are now once again broken.
In the chaos Uraraka activated her quirk on the pillar she was holding and used it as a massive baseball bat sending several pieces of rubble at Iida. The boy not knowing what to do covers his face with his arms as his armor takes the brunt of the attack. The gravity user then floats herself across the pit to the weapon latching herself on the missile just as the timer for the trail finished.
Grabbing the microphone once again All Might proudly claims at the top of his lungs "THE HERO TEAM WINS!"
"What a weird way for this to end." Kaminari states. "The losers are practically untouched and the winners are both on the ground." On the screens, the class can see Uraraka doing her best to hold back vomiting from overusing her quirk while Midoriya is unconscious on the ground from exhaustion.
"Now that the trial is over I am going down with medical drones to check on your classmates. Everyone else stay here and await our arrival." All Might informs the class.
Not too long later the number one hero is back in the monitor room with three of the four students. The green-haired boy is currently being attended to by Recovery Girl.
"Despite the results, the MVP of this exercise is Young Iida!" All Might proclaims
A frog-like student named Tsuyu Asui questions the teacher "Shouldn't it be one of the Heroes instead, since they are one of the winners?"
"Valid question young Asui. Why didn't I choose one of those two? Who has a guess?" Raising his arm to signal to the class to do the same to answer.
Two hands were raised, one belonging to Yaoyorozu and the other to Ben. Since the young heroine was already in front of the class she was able to speak her mind first. "Iida embraced the challenge. He was the only one who truly adapted to his assigned role. As Tennyson stated before Bakugo has a personal grudge against Midoriya which clouded his judgment. Also as you pointed out earlier, the use of Bakugo's gauntlets indoors was a foolish move. Similarly, Midoriya's plan was poorly thought out due to the injuries he acquired over the course of the fight. His actions lead him to be rendered useless for further combat. Uraraka could have also been the MVP if it wasn't for her reckless attack at the end of the exercise. While it did lead to the victory in this battle if the missile was real the barrage of debris could have caused more harm than good. Iida was prepared for his opponent and stuck to his plan even if he was foiled in the end."
"Very well stated Young Yaoyorozu," All Might starts "Let's see what Young Tennyson has to say."
"The obvious answer for who wouldn't get MVP would be Bakugo." Ben started, much to the annoyance of the blonde bomber "As soon as the exercise started he abandoned his teammate, along with assuming refusing to communicate with his team, and the massive explosion did little to help the situation. These actions lead him into a situation where he was outnumbered, told his enemy that destruction to the building meant nothing, and he honestly got his butt kicked by Midoriya. Midoriya came into the building with a plan, not taking the main or back entrances, using his enemy's emotions to his advantage, along with I'm assuming gilding Uraraka to a point in the room where his uppercut wouldn't hit his teammate. Sadly that's where his praises end because he was out-skilled combat-wise and should have avoided direct confrontation. Considering the backlash of his power he did do the right thing in setting things up for his team to complete the mission but until he has better control over it that is the best he can do. Uraraka Seemed to be following Midorya's orders for the whole exercise until the end when she used her powers on the pillar, but I don't think she should be docked points for treating the fake missile as a fake at that moment because Iida did the same thing by moving it across the room. If the thing was real there is no way he could have moved it. Lastly despite being abandoned by his teammate Iida kept a cool head on his shoulders, got into character, which was honestly really funny, and held out against Uraraka."
At all this praise the armor-wearing teen starts to beam in happiness.
"You two took the words right out of my mouth," All might said shakily. The number one hero was not expecting these two to have such a set of tactful eyes.
-Chapter 10: First Confrontations-
"Alright now that the discussion about the previous battle is over it is time for teams B and I to take the stage. Young Todoroki and Young Shoji await outside the building across the street from where Teams A and D had their battle. Young Ojiro and Young Hagakure move the weapon to where you see fit inside that building." All Might informed the class. "The rest of us will return to the Monitor room."
"Right!" the class declared in response
Walking back to the monitor room a certain pinkette catches up to the wielder of the Omnitrix. "If you don't mind me asking what was your Grandpa like?" Mina asks Ben
"Grandpa Max," Ben starts before a brief pause "He was the inspiration for me becoming a hero. When I first got my powers I was on a summer road trip with my cousin and him. That was the best summer of my life. Have I told you how the watch works?" the emerald clad teen asks
"Not really, but I would love to hear though," Mina says enthusiastically
"Normally my quirk will force me into this painful amalgamation of my current forms at random, but the watch can clean up the forms and make it so I control when I want to 'go hero'. I remember that first night on that road trip. I went out for a walk in the forest only to almost get hit by an asteroid. In sheer panic, my powers activated. I ended up erupting into flames to protect myself from the heat of the asteroid. I was scared and accidentally started a forest fire. Grandpa and Gwen came searching for me once they saw the smoke. Grandpa was the one to calm me down. He told me to breathe and to focus, the more I panicked the hotter my flames got and the more out of control they were growing. Once he calmed me down he instructed me to burn a separate part of the forest so the flames would snuff each other out." Ben stops speaking for a second, water building around his eyes but refusing to let them fall.
Wanting to help her new friend, Mina walks closer to him and hugs his arm "He sounds like he was a great man"
"He was, gave the best advice, and was always there with answers to any question I had, but his cooking was terrible. That man tried feeding two ten-year-olds Marinated mealworms for dinner on several occasions. I swear his cooking was a better deterrent than most punishments." The troubled teen says with a slight laugh.
Mina on the other hand had to cover her mouth not to laugh. "Seriously, what else did he make?"
"He did offer leftover smoked sheep's tongue as an alternative to the worms. To quote him 'this summer's gonna be an adventure for your taste buds." Ben says smiling looking down at the pinkette
"An adventure or torture for your taste buds because that sounds horrible," Mina says sticking her tongue out in disgust.
"TEAMS B AND I ARE YOU READY?" All Might belt into the microphone.
On the screens, we can see three teens nod assuming the invisible Hagakure nodded as the teacher started the battle trail.
From the far left monitor, the class could see Todoroki gesture for his teammate to step outside before a frost covered the room they were standing in.
"Is he going to do what I think he is gonna do," Ben mutters to himself
Mina being the only one close enough to hear him takes her eyes on the monitor to ask "What do you mean?" only to feel a rumble. The Pinkette snaps her head back to the screen to see that Todoroki flash froze the whole building.
"No fucking way." Was all Ben could say to what just happened before noticing his breath. "All Might sir, would it be ok if I transform to warm up the room?"
"P-p-please do s-s-so Young T-Tennyson." All might says through chattering teeth
In one quick motion the wielder of the Omnitrix activates the device before disappearing a flash of green light transforming into "Heatblast," the Pyronite calls out. This form's ambient heat balances the cold that Todoroki produced.
Not too long after team B won their fight due to Hagakure and Ojiro being unable to move.
"Time to review the results of the second match." All Might states
"All Might sir if you don't mind me asking but what would we be reviewing?" Ben asks still transformed "Todoroki was able to defeat the enemy team in less than a minute without damaging the weapon, harming his teammate, himself, and the villains to a large degree."
"Very true Young Tennyson," All Might states "Since the battle was over so quickly we don't have much to cover. Teams C and G make your way over to building C and get ready for your trial!"
"Will do sir," Ben responds, transforming back to human.
With a quick look over to Mina, the excitable pinkette smiles and says "Break a leg Alien Boy."
Now walking over to their designated building Ben pulls his teammate off to the side wanting to ask her some questions.
"Yaoyorozu how does your quirk work?"
"Oh, I can convert my lipids into non-living items as long as I know the chemical makeup for it." the ravenette replies casually
"So you had to think of each individual part of that moped yesterday?"
"Yeah, mechanical builds like that are a little difficult to memorize but that is why I have this." the intelligent girl states while grabbing a book from beyond her. Flipping through the pages Ben could see that basically anything a hero could need is listed down along with the compounds and estimated amount of lipids.
"Wow this is incredible, I think between you and me we might be the most varied students in class."
"I can see that your forms allow you a wide variety of abilities and my creations allow me to support anyone in a given scenario."
The duo is briefly interrupted by All Might talking into their ears once they make it to their designated building. "Team C make your way into the building and move the bomb to where you see fit you have five minutes to do so. Also through these comlinks, you are able to communicate with your teammates."
"Sounds like a plan sir," Yaoyorozu says holding her hand to her ear. Turning her attention to her teammate. "So what is your plan, Tennyson?"
"Just call me Ben, it's easier." the American says awkwardly "Kaminari and Jiro didn't show off any movement abilities yesterday at the quirk assessment so I'm assuming that verticality could be their downfall. I think we should move the weapon to the top floor and secure it there." Grabbing the false bomb Ben and his teammate make their way up the staircase and find a room in the corner of the building with only one entrance.
"By the way, if it's easier for you, you can call me Momo." Momo starts "That plan sounds great, but do you have any idea on how to deal with them?"
After a brief moment of planning, Ben locks himself outside of the room allowing Momo to set up their defenses. "This is going to be fun." the teen mumbles to himself as he hears the thud of something large colliding with the ground.
The hero team outside is having a less pleasant time planning.
"You can use your quirk to hear where they are in the building right?" Asks the electric blonde named Denki Kaminari
"Yeah, and?" The punk rock girl named Kyoka Jiro asks confused.
"Well if we can find what floor they are on I can electrify the ground knocking them out and allowing us to walk in like how Todoroki froze the ground."
"That does sound like a good plan with one problem."
"What problem?"
"That fact that you will electrocute me, you dolt!"
A few minutes later the heroes are let loose into the building with All Might yelling "Let the Battle Trial begin!"
Once Jiro and Kaminari make their way inside the earphone jack user plugs herself into the wall. With her aux cords in walls or floors, Jiro can hear anything within a hundred or so feet.
"Any ideas where they are? Asks Kaminari
"That's strange I can only hear one person. They are on the top floor on the west side. I think it's Momo, it sounds like she is setting up traps." responds the petite girl
"Maybe Ben isn't moving and that's why you can't hear him."
"Maybe but I can normally hear a person's heartbeat at this range. It's almost like Ben disappeared."
The hero team makes their way through the first floor trying to find the staircase to the next floor. Kaminari is keeping a hand extended crackling with lightning in case they get ambushed. As they make their way through the second floor they stop again allowing Jiro to check their surroundings.
"Momo seems to be held up in that room still, but there is still no sign of- What was that!" the startled hero proclaims as she whips her head over to a nearby door. "I heard something heavy fall over in that room."
"Stay here I will check it out," the electric-charged teen informs his teammate. Making his way into a dark office Kaminari sees that there is a desk that is on its side. "I got you now Ben," Kaminari says to himself as he charges his hand up, jumping over the desk just to slam his open palm into the floor. The confused teen doesn't see anyone. "Jiro, something is weird here!" he calls out to the hall.
"How so?"
"There is a large desk in here that someone had to knock over, but I'm the only one in here!" As he speaks the last couple of words Kaninari notices that he can see his breath. "What in the-AH" the electric blonde screams as he falls through the floor. Hitting the floor rear first, the boy stands up trying to rub away the pain.
"Hello, Kaminari," Came an eerie voice behind the teen. The now scared boy turns around to release a bolt of lightning at the wall missing whatever was behind him. "Wrong move boy," the eerie voice speaks once again.
"Where are you?! What are you?!" Kaminari shakily asks the empty room.
"To answer both of your questions, look up" doing what the voice says the teen stares at the ceiling seeing a humanoid shape come into existence with large mothlike wings "I'm Big Chill!"
"AAAHHH" Kaminari screams in a fit of panic releasing a large amount of electricity all over the room. The Necrofiggian attempts to go intangible again only to be shocked out of it.
Crashing to the floor Ben holds his head "Right the one thing that can hurt me when I phase is electricity. I guess it's time to change things up." the alien slaps the Omnitrix dial on his chest transforming him in a flash of brilliant green light into a six-foot alien with rubberlike skin, there is a single green eye on the face with two tendrils coming out of the top of the head with the male end of a plug of some sort, this plug can be seen on the end of the tail with the female ends at the ends of its fingers, copper like protrusions go down the length of both arms, completing this alien's look is a green pattern going from the collarbone down to the pelvis and the Omnitrix dial resting on the chest. "Feedback!" the new alien calls out
"What did he transform into? Kero" asked Asui
"Not sure Ben hasn't shown me this guy before." Eijiro pipes in.
The class then looks over their teacher catching the pro hero off guard. "Oh um, let's see what his file says." All Might says while bringing up the teen's file "That's handy they are in sets of ten. So looks like on playlist 6 this 'alien' is called Feedback, this form seems to have
electrokinesis and energy absorption."
"Kaminari is not going to have a fun time." Sero chimes in.
"Ok Sparky, I'm going to give you one warning. Stand down and leave the building." Feedback warns
"A true hero never surrenders!" Kaminari cries out. The boy begins to light up his hands with yellow electricity before shooting lighting in the general area in front of him. "Take this, LIGHTNING VOLT!"
"If that's the case then I have no choice," the Conductoid states while folding his arms. The tendrils on the top of his head move to be pointed at Kaminari. The electricity gets redirected to the copper ends allowing the transformed teen to absorb the couple thousand volts of power.
"What in the world?!" The blonde cried
"Do you want to know why I call this guy Feedback?" The tall alien then makes dual finger guns before yelling, "Bang! Bang! Bang!" With each yell, Feedback fired a bolt of blue electricity at the teen. Only to miss with millimeters to spare.
"How are you so accurate with those," the "hero" being too petrified to move.
"Not too sure how I'm accurate, but I do know that you are out of your league right now." Blue electricity begins to crackle over his body going from one copper piece to another as Ben takes a step forward.
"I'm not going down that easily!" Kaminari calls out before making a mad dash at his transformed combatant. Once he gets close enough he electrified his fist and threw a wild haymaker at the cycloptic alien.
Feedback catches the poorly thrown punch with his oversized hand and absorbs the electricity through his fingertips. Kaminari then throws a similar punch with his other hand with the same results.
"Why are you so strong, this guy is lanky as shit!" Kaminari yells in frustration.
Looking down at his shorter classmate Feedback could see his opponent is starting to go cross-eyed. "The more electricity I have in my system the stronger I get. But are you good dude your eyes are starting to go wonky?"
"That's normal. It just means I have to do this!" The yellow electric user attempts to become a living emp only to be jabbed in the sides of his head by Feedback's tendrils siphoning the electric charge out of the boy's body.
With a thud, Kaminari is dropped onto his rear once again, unlike before he couldn't react. He was stuck cross-eyed with a stupid expression across his face. The boy is now just sitting on the ground giving Feedback a double thumbs up and making incoherent noises.
Looking in the corner of the room Feedback looks to see one of the cameras pointing to his incapacitated opponent asking "Is he going to be ok?"
The Omnitrix dial lights up slightly before All Might's voice comes out, whenever Ben transforms any communication devices temporarily become one with the Omnitrix. "Yes Young Tennyson, Young Kaminari over-used his quirk, in doing so he short-circuited his brain. He should be fine within an hour."
"Alright, thank you All Might sir." The Conductoid responded before dashing out of the door to see where his final opponent was.
A few minutes earlier in the distance, Jiro could hear her teammate yelling from another room "There is a large desk in here that someone had to knock over, but I'm the only one in here!" the boy pauses for a second. "What in the-AH!"
"Kaminari!" Jiro yells running into the cold room to see that her teammate has disappeared. Not wasting a moment she stuck her earphone jacks into the floor to hear her surroundings. With a wave of relief, she could hear her partner on the floor below her electrocuting what she was assuming to be Ben considering Yaoyorozu was still on the top floor. "It sounds like he has this covered." The sound user mutters to herself while unplugging her jacks from the floor.
The punk rock-themed girl dashes the next flight of stairs making her way to the next floor. Not wanting to waste any time she continues to run through the last couple of floors having a good hunch that all the traps her enemies put up are in the final room. This hunch was correct for the most part. Once she made it to the top floor she failed to notice a line of fishing wire on the ground tripping her up causing her to faceplant on the cement floor. "Ow." was all the purplette could mutter
Standing behind a cannon of her own design, Momo could see a flag in the corner of the room be raised. "Looks like someone is on the top floor. Good thing I set up that early warning line." the rich girl thinks to herself.
Taking a quick look around the room Momo could see the faux missile in the corner along with several metal rods planted into the floor and walls of the room. Her cannon was in the middle of the room pointed right at the only door. Said weapon had rubber on the handles.
Jiro walking over to the room where she heard Yaoyorozu starts to rub her nose. "I hate tripwires." The punk then jiggles the handle of the door. "Shit it's locked." Taking a step back Jiro plugs herself into the speakers that are in the shins of her boots. A moment later a concussive force knocked down the door in the beat of her heart. "Ha, it's going to take more than that to stop me."
"You think this will!" A feminine voice came from the room before a loud KATHUNK was heard. Jiro then felt something collide with her chest as she gets thrown across the hallway knocking the wind out of her.
Getting back up, Jiro investigated what just hit her. "A bean bag? That hits harder than I thought it would." Another KATHUNK could be heard as another bean bag could be seen herling right at the winded "hero." "Shit!" Jiro says reattacking her earlobes back to her boots to shoot a soundwave. Once the sound made collision with the bean bag the projectile was sent back to where it came from.
KATHUNK! "I think that the second one was a little too much," Momo mutters to herself. Before a high-pitched sound could be heard. The highly intelligent girl quickly makes a pair of sound-canceling headphones over her ears. Even though she could no longer hear her opponent she could see the bean bag she fired moments ago coming right back at her. "Crap baskets!" The buxom girl quickly dives out of the way of the wayward bag. Said bag lodges itself back into the cannon, breaking the weapon. Momo gets back to her feet and sees Jiro making her way into the room.
"I hope this doesn't hertz you too much." The purplette declares before releasing a powerful sonic wave throwing her opponent against the back wall. Jiro seeing her opportunity sprints to apprehend the bomb. Before she could make contact with the faux weapon a crackle of electricity could be heard. "About time you made it over here Kaminari." The "hero" turns around expecting to see a bolt of yellow electricity only to see a bolt of blue inches away from her face.
Luckily for the punk rocker, the bolt changed directions. The attack made a sharp left striking one of many steel rods around the room. "I guess using electricity in a room designed to counter Kaminari is not the best plan out there." A staticky voice came from the hall. "Time for another change."
Just before Jiro could see what just tried to electrocute her a blinding flash of green filled her vision. When the light cleared she could see a large bipedal dull metallic green and black rhinoceros beetle with a heavy underbite. "Eatle!" the newly transformed Oryctini cries out. "I've got an appetite for destruction." The bulky alien then reaches down ripping one of the steel rods out of the ground with bits of the floor coming with it.
"What are you going to do with that, throw it at me. Do your worst." Jiro proclaims getting ready to fire another sound blast.
"Remember you asked for this," Eatle calls out lifting the pillar above his head.
The sound user braces herself for impact to feel nothing. Looking back up she could see Eatle chewing through the steel as if it was an oversized pretzel stick. "Yum, Momo you know how to make some great steel. Now that my tank is full, time to show you what this guy can do." As the insect-like alien finishes talking the arc at the tip of his horn begins to glow before firing a green laser at his opponent.
"Oh shit!" The punk rocker attempts to blast the attack away with her sound waves. Sadly for her sound doesn't have any effect on light this resulted in the two ranged attacks going right through each other. The sound waves bombarded Eatle's exoskeleton but the alien was too heavy to be moved. Jiro didn't have the same experience, once the laser made contact with her she got thrown back once again. Luckily for her, she landed closer to the missile. "You should really look where you aim."
Jiro smirks as she reaches up to touch the bomb only to hear a clicking sound as something metallic made its way around her wrist. "And you should pay attention to who is around you." proclaims while holding the other end of a pair of handcuffs. The rich girl then pulls the "hero's" hand away from the weapon and cuffs her to a nearby rod.
"All with a minute to spare." Momo then dusts her hands off "How did you take out Kaminari?"
"No! You never say anything like that!" Eatle starts freaking out "There are two things you never say, how easy something is, and what could possibly go wrong!"
"Ben, you are overreacting. There is no need to worry, Jiro is handcuffed to the lightning rod and Kaminari is defeated."
"Stop talking! By saying these things you are giving the universe ideas of what to do to us!"
"Why does it look like they are arguing?" Eijiro says thinking out loud.
"Perhaps it could be due to Tennyson abandoning Yaoyorozu at the beginning of the trail?" A raven headed teen interjects. This boy's name is Tokoyami.
"I don't think so. Tennyson was the one who instigated the fight." Todoroki cuts in "It seems like she may have said something to set him off. That's strange, he doesn't seem to be the type to get angry easily. Ashido, you are the closest to him, what do you think?"
"Oh, um," Mina wasn't expecting to be put on the spot. "I'm not sure. I know he did experience loss before coming to Japan. Maybe she said something that brought back a bad memory?"
"Guys, look at the monitor!" Sero proclaims pointing at the far right screen
On the said monitor, the class can see the "villain" team's continual discourse along with Jiro standing up and with her jack inside of the handcuff. A moment later and she was free and crypt over to the bomb touching it.
"The hero team wins!" All Might declares into the microphone.
"The hero team wins!" All Might's voice could be heard throughout all of the active earpieces.
"Wait, what?" Eatle questions looking over to where their "prisoner" was being held to see empty handcuffs
"Remember when we were talking about watching your surroundings?" Jiro smirks back at her fellow classmates.
"The MVP for this match was a difficult one to decide." Proclaims All Might "I believe that the MVP should either be Young Yaoyorozu or Young Jiro. Young Yaoyorozu due to her ability to effectively hold off her opponent by herself and almost securing the win. Young Jiro for her ability to think creatively with applications to use her quirk along with knowing when to fight and when to use stealth to her advantage. What do you believe class?"
"Before we decide on MVP can I ask some questions?" Todoroki asks the teacher.
"Of course young Todoroki, ask away."
The heterochromatic teen turns his attention to the four teens who fought. "Tennyson, what was your plan for the trail? It looks like you had a similar plan to Bakugo even though you said that wasn't the best plan for his trial."
"Yeah that does seem a little hypocritical of me to do," Ben starts, "Before the battle, I asked Momo what her quirk did and realized that if I could by her time to make traps to protect the bomb we would have a higher chance of winning."
"Yes, Ben also figured out that Kaminari and Jiro most likely are incapable of moving vertically quickly going off the Quirk Apprehension Test yesterday, so we moved the bomb to the top floor and fortified the room to the best of my abilities while Ben stalled for time," Momo interjected.
"I see and I'm assuming those robs around the room, they were there to act as lightning rods for Kaminari."
"Yes, that was Ben's idea, Kaminari was easier to make defenses for considering that mankind has already found ways to protect ourselves from large amounts of electricity."
"Yeah, the best I could do for coming up with defenses for Jiro was noise canceling headphones."
"Wait how did you know I use electricity?" Kamininari questions
"Dude you have a lightning bolt in your hair and little bolts in your clothing."
"Oh," the electric user said despondently.
"Jiro, what was your team's plan?" Shoto questions the other team.
"We had the basics of a plan going in. I would use my jacks to listen to the building and determine the location of the villains and we would rush them so Lightning Brain could incapacitate them before they knew we were there." Jiro says pointing at her teammate "Ben how did you hide your heartbeat?" the punk rocker questions the green-clad teen
"When the match started I transformed into Big Chill and went intangible to sneak up on you guys. When I'm intangible it's hard to describe it feels like I'm on another layer similar to digital art where things can be separated into different layers. Things on different layers can't interact with each other so that could be how."
"If that's the case then how did Kaminari zap you?" Hagakure asks
"From what I can tell electricity is something that can exist on both layers."
"I guess that makes sense," Tokoyami interjects "the erratic nature of electricity could allow it to change layers at a moment's notice.
"What has been bothering me Ben is why did you start an argument with Yaoyrozu, man?" Eijiro questions.
Being a little sheepish now Ben scratches the back of his head. "I didn't mean to start that, Momo was saying that the situation was over before it was and it triggered some bad memories. Let's just say I'm superstitious when it comes to the universe jinxing me." The Omnitrix bearer says looking at Mina.
"Considering the range of abilities and skills shown during the trial I think that Jiro should be the MVP." Shoji states. "This could have gone to Ben, Yaoyorozu, or Jiro because they all showed amazing skill during this, Ben's planning and combat capabilities, Momo's ability to make anything she can think of, and Jiro being the one to come out victorious in a two versus one scenario. Where in a straight fight I believe Ben could beat both Jiro and Kaminari, Ben got distracted right at the end. Yaoyorozu was too reliant on Ben's plan to come up with another solution during the fight. Jiro was able to keep her mind on her objective and adapt on the fly." The six-armed boy stated while alternating talking from hand mouth to hand mouth.
"That is well spoken, Young Shoji," All Might proclaims over the class, "The MVP of this match is Young Jiro."
