Chapter 294 - Parting

In the morning, the training camp of the city guards was filled with the sounds of animated fairy soldiers training.

With the influx of refugees, the population of Mist City, a city of animated fairies, skyrocketed once again.

What used to be a small city with a population of less than a few thousand now had a population of fifteen thousand, nearly doubling.

The influx of animated fairy refugees not only caused temporary turmoil and chaos in Mist City, but also contributed many young and strong animated fairies to the city's defense forces.

The planar war had been going on for nearly three months. The Hall of Knights and the Sanctum's troops were everywhere, causing great damage to the animated fairies of the Forest and Fertile Soil continents.

The animated fairies on these two continents hated the Invaders to the bone. Each of them had one or two relatives who had been captured by the Invaders.

Apart from knights and casters, the ones that the animated fairies feared and hated the most were the crazy slave legions.

The million-strong enslaved legion was the main force in this dimensional war, taking up the task of capturing the bottom-level animated fairy civilians. What was most valuable to animate the world of the fairies was not the elite animated fairy champions, but the hundreds of millions of ordinary animated fairies.

Every second, there would be new animated fairies being captured, stuffed into the crowded airships, and transported into the Void Fortress. What awaited them was only an unpredictable future.

It was this confusion about the future and reluctance to leave their lives that aroused the desire to survive of the lower-class animated fairies.

More and more animated fairies came to sign up for the city guards. In just two days, Locke had done nothing but another leaf on his shoulder, and a short cherry man was stuffed into their squad.

"Do your best!" The platoon jarl was still as experienced as ever. After bringing the cherry man to the place where Locke and the others were training, he gave them a few words of encouragement and left.

Locke didn't have the time to train these fragile animated fairy subordinates. The exposed area of the cloak had increased by a finger's length, and he had to leave by tonight at the latest.

"I'm going to the north. Who's coming with me?" Locke put down the training spear and turned to ask his four teammates.

The tomato man, Ali, was still practicing his killing spree, while the potato man, Ah Zhuang, touched his head honestly, not sure if he wanted to agree or refuse.

Ah Du, the cucumber man with the fastest reaction, ran over. "Brother Ah Luo, I'll go with you." Although he didn't know where A Luo was going, he wanted to get closer to his captain so that he could be taken care of in battle. This was what Ah Du thought.

"Alright." Locke nodded. He was going to the northern part of the city to secretly record the situation and strength of the defenses there. Bringing an animated sprite with him would at least confuse the patrollers a little.

"Zhuang, teach it how to train. Adu, let's go," said Locke as he pointed at the sprite.

This Sakura Girl with thin arms and legs was the peach girl Ah Lai. She was probably stronger than the Sakura Girl Ah Lai. Ah Lai didn't know how she passed the city guard's inspection.

The animated fairies also had three meals. In the morning, the most common food was dew and some soft mud.

Walking in the northern district of Fog City, many animated fairies had just woken up and were preparing to eat their breakfast.

He yawned and followed Locke aimlessly around the city. Locke didn't say what he wanted to do, so Adu could only follow him.

I should've stayed there to train, thought Adu. Of course, he couldn't tell Locke this. He even had to be more respectful and run errands for Locke.

"Let's go over there and have a look." Locke pointed at the watchtower not far away.

This watchtower was one of the three watchtowers at the northern city gate of Fog City. It was responsible for monitoring more than half of the sights outside the northern part of the city.

There were quite a lot of animated fairies stationed here. There were a total of twenty of them. More than ten of them were patrolling below, while the rest took turns to guard the watchtower.

"Hey, what are you guys doing here?!" Not long after they got close, the soldiers stationed there came to chase them away.

Without Locke saying anything, the cucumber man Adu went up to negotiate. "Brother, we're also members of the city guard."

Taking advantage of the few seconds when Adu held back the soldiers, Locke's hand, which was hidden under his hood, spun a crystal ball in several directions.

"Adu, let's go." Locke called out to the cucumber man after he had gathered enough information.

Under the strange gazes of the soldiers stationed at the watchtower, Locke and Adu, the two animated fairies in the city guard's uniform, swaggered away from the watchtower.

The stationed soldiers were just curious, but they didn't suspect their actions. The city guard captain's uniform on Locke was too useful.

"Where are we going next?" Adu asked fawningly. He found a pattern. This pear-man captain liked to stay at higher ground.

The buildings of the animated fairies were generally on the lower side. Locke would be able to see the whole situation from a higher vantage point.

After thinking for a while, Locke pointed to the next place, the branch of the giant treehouse at the junction of the northern and eastern parts of the city.

It was already evening, and the sun was still the same as before. It had set early, leaving only a bright red glow on the horizon.

Locke walked with Alai, who came to visit him. The peach sprite seemed to be thinking about something. Her face seemed to be a little red, but it seemed to be because of the sunlight, or maybe it was the original colour of her skin. It was hard to tell.

After a long silence, Alai finally mustered up the courage to say, "Alai, come to my house for dinner tonight, okay?"

The little girl opened her big bright eyes, the tiny hair on her body trembling slightly. She looked nervous.

"No, I have something to do tonight," Locke, who didn't know how to flirt, directly refused.

Tonight was the day he would leave. The invisibility cloak's area of effect was getting bigger and bigger. Alai's strength was too low. Now, as long as there was an animated fairy with strength close to that of a high-rank Knecht here, it would easily discover Locke's aura, which was different from that of an animated fairy.

This feeling was incompatible with the animated fairy plane, so there was no doubt that he was an intruder.

"Oh." Alai lowered her head and didn't say anything else.

"Alai," Locke suddenly called out.

"Hmm?" Alai raised her head and looked at Locke with a trace of expectation.

"You must run north when you encounter danger, understand?" Locke suddenly said something that didn't make sense.

"Hmm? Why? "Alai couldn't keep up with Locke's thoughts.

"You don't need to know why. Anyway, just run north and bring your family with you," Locke continued.

"Oh." Although Alai didn't understand, she still nodded and agreed. That was her temperament. She was very soft and obedient.

As the sun set, the shadows of Locke and Alai, one tall and one short, became longer and longer. ()
