Chapter Two
Her heart felt as if it had been brutally torn open, the pain leaving her almost unable to speak.
His hand was icy cold, devoid of any warmth, and that faint heartbeat sounded as though… it wasn't there.
Sofia Hamilton was utterly terrified. Thinking back on the things Charlie Harris had told her, waves of regret and sorrow washed over her. She was so foolish—how could she bring him here by herself, to a place as deserted and dangerous as this?
She blinked back tears brimming in her eyes and sat up. "Ryan, wake up."
"Wake up, stop sleeping, open your eyes and look at me, please."
"Ryan Gregory!"
"Is this another one of your tricks, your lies? Stop messing around, please? Just get up!"
Her entire body was trembling from fright—her voice shook, her hands shook, even her entire heart seemed to quake.
With no response from him, she burst into helpless sobs.
She hadn't brought her phone, and there wasn't a soul to be seen anywhere. What was she supposed to do?
