Back in the Main Bedroom, she lay motionless on the bed, gazing around the empty, spacious room. She didn't know why, but she was feeling a bit melodramatic today.
When Maxwell Peary got busy, he lost track of time. It was one in the morning by the time he drove home. After parking the car, he rubbed his temples and changed his shoes before heading straight into the Bedroom.
Even though it had only been one night since they last saw each other, it felt like centuries had passed.
He gently opened the door, smiling as he slowly approached Nia Mitchell. He squatted down, leveling himself with her.
Feeling the warmth of his gaze, Nia furrowed her delicate brows and slowly opened her eyes.
"Hmm…"
She blinked, looking at Maxwell Peary, who was crouched in front of her.
"Uncle?"
Her voice was slightly raspy and filled with sleepy bewilderment. Seeing him squatting there surprised her, and she quickly sat up.
"Just lie down."
