Hearing the sound of footsteps, Nia Mitchell quickly closed her eyes and buried herself beneath the blanket, pretending to be sound asleep.
However, her ears were straining to pick up any sounds around her.
Maxwell Peary walked in and looked at the large lump on the bed. He then placed the milk on the table and sat down in a nearby chair.
"I haven't eaten dinner yet. I was busy working until now."
He suddenly spoke, his voice sounding a bit pitiful.
Lying on the bed, Nia startled, her small shoulders tensing.
A tense thirty seconds later, the lump under the blanket began to stir.
Nia turned over and looked at Maxwell, whose expression was unreadable.
"Uncle."
Her eyes were slightly red. She hadn't realized he had been so busy.
"How can you skip dinner?"
Meals are very important for a person. He had even missed his, and it was already past one in the morning.
"I was too busy."
