"Dad, does it hurt a lot?"
Gerry Peary looked at Alan Morgan with his large, moist eyes, full of innocence.
Alan Morgan shook his head. He was so numbed by the Anesthetic that he didn't feel any pain at all.
"Dad is lying, but I know why Dad would lie."
Suddenly, Gerry Peary looked at the man lying in the hospital bed with an 'I understand' expression.
"When Mom used to ask me if it hurt, I always said yes at first. But then I saw her crying all the time, so I knew I couldn't say that. Later, when I said it didn't hurt, Mom called me a little man. Dad is a big man, so it doesn't hurt, right?"
He seemed to understand these things well. Alan Morgan's mind went a bit blank; he didn't know how to interact with Gerry Peary.
His lips moved.
"What's your name?"
He desperately wanted to know this little boy's name.
"Raven Morgan. His name is Raven Morgan. You can just call him Little Raven from now on."
