When he turned back to the bedside, Vera Wave had already sat up, propping herself with her arms. She looked Kris Cooper up and down, pursed her lips, hesitated for a moment, and finally spoke.
"Did you buy my family's old house?"
"Yes."
"Why?" Her big eyes fixed on his face, Vera added a sentence, "I want to hear the truth."
Kris Cooper looked at her for a moment and then told the truth.
"It was... meant to be your birthday gift."
His plan was initially to take her to the old house on her birthday.
Wearing the shirt she gave him, on the Grassland, placing a birthday cake, singing that song to her—the song he sang to her six years ago on her sixteenth birthday.
She should remember that night very clearly; he just hoped that this stimulation might help her recover her memory.
Hearing his answer, Vera's heart tightened, her breathing became somewhat erratic, and she took a deep breath, coughing softly.
"Did we... know each other before?"
