Vera Wave watched the sales assistant hurry off, then turned to her husband. "Dear, don't you think you're exaggerating a bit?"
Kris Cooper slipped another cotton sock onto her small foot. "The opening is too tight. Your feet will swell if you walk a lot."
Vera froze. "You... how did you know?"
She did have this problem, though she never knew why. She'd seen doctors about it before, but they couldn't find a cause. In the past, she would always buy a pile of socks and wear whichever pair felt most comfortable. It was just that her financial situation was limited now, so she couldn't be as extravagant as before.
He remembered how, years ago, he'd taken the packaging from her favorite socks and scoured the entire city to buy them all up for her. Of course, he knew about her issue. But these were things he couldn't tell her now.
After loosening her shoelaces, Kris looked up at her with a smile.
"This is common sense. If your socks aren't comfortable, your feet definitely won't be."
