The car barely missed Vera, crashing heavily onto the ground. It slid further forward amidst scattering debris until it finally came to a halt against a wall.
Still, Vera sprinted forward, dashing up the stairs. When she saw the familiar figure, she charged into Kris Cooper's arms.
