Mia Moreland was startled by the shout, coming back to her senses, realizing that she had just been daydreaming about Ann Chapman. Her face flushed as red as a cooked shrimp. Seeing Ann's somewhat unpleasant expression and the clarity in his eyes as if he saw through her thoughts, her ears burned hot.
"I-I-I'm going in now, goodnight Ann." She said, then lowered her head and rushed through the door like a gust of wind.
Only after hearing the sound of the front door closing did Ann retract his gaze, casting a glance at the pair still embracing each other, then got in his car and quickly drove away.
At the doorway, only Lynette Moreland and Max Davies remained. Max seemed to have lost his mind, stepping back with Lynette until she was pressed against the doorpost. Lynette's heart was pounding fast, suffocated, the discomfort made her want to escape, but she had nowhere to run.
