Looking at the system notifications, Liu Banxia's heart pounded like a drum. This system is incredibly generous! These lavish rewards are probably because I lucked into an 'above-level boss kill.' Normally, a doctor at my level would rarely get the chance to truly participate in a surgery of this caliber. Not only did I participate, but my involvement was significant. That's why the rewards are so hefty. Is this an ordinary surgery? In General Surgery, this is the king of procedures!

"Alright, kid, that's enough. Don't get arrogant," Shi Lei said, patting Liu Banxia's shoulder when he saw him looking a bit dazed.

Snapping out of his daze, Liu Banxia finally noticed that everyone, both the staff in the operating room and the onlookers outside, was applauding. This was a flawless surgery. The applause wasn't for me, but for Zhou Shuwen.

"Liu, you're familiar with the patient's family. Talk to them in a bit," Zhou Shuwen said.

Liu Banxia hesitated. "Director, I'm still quite worked up. I never imagined I'd get to participate in a surgery of this level. I'm worried I might misspeak. How about letting Shi Lei handle it?"

Zhou Shuwen frowned slightly, gave a Weiwei nod, and said nothing.

"What's gotten into you?" Shi Lei nudged him as they walked out.

"Boss, I really was afraid of saying the wrong thing. Besides, I saw Director Jiang. I figure he's looking for me," Liu Banxia replied with a wry smile.

Shi Lei glanced at him. Something seems off about this kid.

"Old Zhou, congratulations! Three hours, twenty-two minutes, and forty-five seconds." Just as they reached the locker room, Jiang Tao approached, beaming.

"You've been loitering here for ages. What exactly are you up to?" Zhou Shuwen asked.

"Liu is a real find. I've taken a shine to him and plan to recruit him for our Proctology Department. Come on, Old Zhou, you wouldn't be reluctant to let him go, would you?" Jiang Tao asked, grinning.

"Haha, you'll have to talk to him about that yourself." With that, Zhou Shuwen went aside to change his clothes.

Jiang Tao strolled over to the dumbfounded Liu Banxia, hands clasped behind his back. "Liu, the patients in the Proctology Department miss you. Come to our department. Within two years, I'll secure an official staff position for you."

This was the trump card Jiang Tao had finally played after long deliberation, the best offer he could make.

Hospitals hire doctors at the department level or hospital level, and then there are the coveted official staff positions. Although "equal pay for equal work" was the mantra, the reality often involved certain... unspoken distinctions.

Especially at the Second Affiliated Hospital of Binhai Medical College, the entry bar was incredibly high. Every department required at least a master's degree, and the entire hospital had very few official staff positions available.

What Jiang Tao offered wasn't just the promise of an official staff position, but also help with Liu Banxia's academic qualifications—his weakest point. Jiang Tao would find a way to help him bridge that gap. Essentially, it meant he would personally mentor Liu Banxia.

This time, it wasn't an olive branch being extended, but an entire olive tree, one with lush foliage at that.

"Old Jiang, you're really willing to invest heavily," Zhou Shuwen remarked in surprise.

"Well, of course. Didn't I say? Liu is a true talent, and I cherish talent," Jiang Tao replied, still grinning.

Liu Banxia, however, gave a wry smile. "Director Jiang, this is all so sudden, it's a bit overwhelming. Could you give me some time to think it over? In any case, I'll still make time to help with dressing changes every day. It should be about time for that now, right? I'll skip lunch; let's head over."

"Are you really not going to eat?" Jiang Tao asked, his expression unreadable.

Liu Banxia nodded earnestly. "I just witnessed Director Zhou's superb surgical skills. I'm still incredibly excited. That was the most advanced surgery I've ever seen in my life."

Jiang Tao gave him an amused look. This kid is a sly one. He didn't outright refuse me, afraid of upsetting me, and managed to flatter Zhou Shuwen in the process. But is Zhou Shuwen the type to fall for flattery? Plenty of people have tried sucking up to him only to have it blow up in their faces.

"Shi Lei, does his mood seem a bit off to you?" Zhou Shuwen asked, watching Liu Banxia cheerfully trot off with Jiang Tao.

"Director, it's likely that the incident in the emergency room left him with some psychological trauma," Shi Lei replied with a wry smile.

"I sensed something was off with him back then too. The patient's family wanted to express their gratitude, but he avoided them. It's been quite a while, and apart from checking on Wang Mingxing before today's surgery, he hasn't visited Liu Liyou or the baby he delivered. And just now, when you asked him to speak with the patient's family—after such a successful surgery—normally, he would have jumped at the chance."

"Director... do you think, perhaps, you could find some time to talk to him, offer some counsel? I'm worried this kid will carry this psychological burden indefinitely. I've tried talking to him twice, but he brushed it off both times. And didn't I just arrange that surgery for him with the Proctology Department yesterday? Director Jiang took an immediate liking to him, and now, unexpectedly, he's here today trying to poach him."

Zhou Shuwen frowned; this situation was somewhat reminiscent of Shi Lei back in the day.

"Then why didn't he immediately agree to Old Jiang's offer?" Zhou Shuwen asked after a moment of thought.

Shi Lei looked a bit troubled and hesitated for a moment before confessing, "This kid wants to earn more money. He was initially dead set on getting into the Plastic Surgery Department."

"Director, Director Jiang was right; this kid is truly a gem. I paid close attention today. His hands seem even steadier than before, and his suturing speed has increased. During the laparotomy, he handled all the assisting work flawlessly, without needing any commands from me. His only real weakness is his lack of academic qualifications. Do you think you could help him overcome this hurdle, just like you helped me back then? I'm not just saying this because I'm his mentor; even I'm impressed by his growth recently."

"My advice is that you don't interfere in this matter. It's his own choice, and everyone must take responsibility for their decisions. As for him… his situation is somewhat different from yours," Zhou Shuwen said calmly, then left the locker room.

Shi Lei sighed internally. He was genuinely worried for Liu Banxia. Such a promising talent!
