Chapter 4 - Frostholm

Their were two ways to get to the other world. One way was to apply for a position according to our job. If Ray were to use this method he would have to apply to a cathedral but he couldn't do so for the obvious reason that he couldn't preach. So his only other option was something that was at the bottom of summoning window. That was to choose a stray job.

As Ray chose the stray option a large map appeared in front of him. Their showed the entire map of the other world also known as Kingdom of Elria. Elria was a really big continent with different topographical regions. Though most of the regions were inhabitable due to high frequency of devilspawns infestation. This caused this situation where most of the habitable places were only near major cities or other important landmark. Except for maybe costal cities but that wasn't necessary.

The map could be divided into five regions they were the Central plains, Northern mountains, Western forest, Eastern Desert and Southern Volcanoes. The one Ray was aiming was the Northern mountains. Reason? It was because the Holy city Seraphelle was in northern region. If he wanted find out about angels their couldn't be a better place than here.

As Ray glanced at the northern side of the map he noticed the holy city immediately as it covered a huge portion of habitable zone at the north. But it wasn't his target, he had eyes on two different habitable zones. One was called Thornwick which was also the nearest habitable zone from The holy city. The other one was Frostholm which was a little further into the mountains but was more desirable. As it was easier to rank up at other places than the holy city.

Even though Thornwick was at a better terrain he still chose Frostholm after some contemplation. The reason was very simple, just beside the Frostholm was a ruin called Darkspire keep. Ruins were very important to an awakened. They could be said to be the source of energy and many other materials used for various things. It was also a good place to use his ability, just thinking about it made his blood rush from excitement.

Just as Ray chose Frostholm he felt his world twisting. It was a very unique sensation for Ray, it felt like all the blood rushed into his head all at once and made him dizzy. When his sight regained he felt weak all over his body and he nearly collapsed. As he was composing himself he realized something was wrong, very wrong.

'Damn, Why the f*ck am I so dumb? Why didn't I realize that mountains equals cold?'

He felt the chilling sensation permeate all over his body. All he was wearing was a thin t-shirt and shorts with a thin jacket on and slippers on his feet. Such mismatch of weather and attire made him look rather comedic. He glanced around looking for salvation. What greeted him was a large gate made up of ice.

The gate seemed to have been entirely made up of ice, Two carvings of angels seemed to show the way to the gate. With the doors having intricate design. The gate itself had a carving of some events that might have occurred in the past.

He would have liked to admire the gate for a longer time if he wasn't in his current predicament. But what confused him was that their were no guards at the gates.

"Aren't gates needed to be guarded against devilspawns all the time? Why is this one unguarded?"

Ray spoke to himself as he approached the gates. Nothing seemed to be happening which didn't make him to drop his guard that was because of the sight he saw inside the gates. Their seemed to be many ice sculpture of humans. The problem was that they looked too real just the sight intensified his chill running through his body.

'Should I run?'

'No! I'm as good as dead in this cold, all I can do is move forward and see'

Ray clenched his hands as if to gather all of the courage in his body and stepped inside. But what greeted him wasn't the ice figure's attack but a warm sensation as if all the cold he had felt was just an illusion.

'What the hell is this place?'

'I should have done some research before choosing a location'

Regretting his life choices he wondered around inside the city. After wandering around the ice sculptures he saw a small road leading towards the inner part of the city wall. As he was about to make his way towards the road he saw a figure of a young women. Their eyes met one another.

Ray was happy to see another living breathing person among all these creepy lifeless statues. He approached her happily waving his hand.

"Hello? Are you from the city"

Ray said trying to appear as gentlemanly as possible. But as he approached he notice something, she was looking at him with strange eyes. At that moment he remembered his attire.

'Arrgh-'

Ray wanted to bury his head, he totally looked like an idiot in this attire. Before Ray could punch himself out of misery that young woman spoke.

"Are.. you new to this place?, You seem like an earthling"

The women spoke with a wide smile on her face. Seeing no hostility Ray too sighed in relief and prepared his next words.

"Yes.. I.. just arrived today.. I didn't kn-"

As I was awkwardly trying to explain my current situation she suddenly interjected.

"Their is no need to explain. Actually a lot of earthlings visit this place via the Summoning Station and many of them forget to do their homework before coming here. You shouldn't be discouraged"

What she didn't mention was most of them were still not foolish enough to were summer clothes to the northern area. But ignorant Ray felt his worries go away a little when he heard this.

'So I'm not the only one. Of course how can i be stupid this must be a common'

"By the way, I'm Ray"

Ray introduced himself as he needed few questions solved before he entered the city.
