Chapter 33 - In The Heart of Darkness

The quiet hum of the engine filled the air, a steady rhythm beneath the occasional rattle of loose metal as the convoy rolled forward through the fog. 

Inside their vehicle, the dim interior light cast a soft glow across the walls. 

Both women sat still—Gelhyne with her arms folded and gaze locked straight ahead, and Rox leaning back, her fingers tapping absently on her knee.

For a long moment, neither of them spoke. 

The silence between them wasn't awkward exactly, but heavy enough that Rox found herself glancing at Gelhyne more than once. 

The commander's face was calm but sharp, her emerald eyes catching the faint light every time the vehicle hit a bump. 

Rox watched her quietly, half curious, half thoughtful—wondering what was going through her mind.

Those eyes… there was something about them.

Calm yet dangerous, like someone who'd seen too much and learned not to flinch anymore. R
