The sun was beginning to set and Shiori had finished her date with Tohka and escorted her back home, then she ran straight back to where Mordred was. You would think that the people who have a giant magic flying battleship would have enough budget to at least get a car ride for the person sealing all the spirits.
Once she arrived Shiori saw Mordred overseeing a group of thugs cleaning up her stand and packing everything up.
She slowly walked up to Mordred, she had to stop to catch her breath for a few minutes which was amusing to Mordred who raised her hand to her for a handshake.
"Mordred" she said which caused Shiori to look up at her in confusion.
"My name is Mordred. I don't believe I introduced myself when we first met. While being called knight is cool and all, I'd still prefer being called by my name."
Shiori accepted the handshake, still out of breath. "Hah... hah... it's nice to meet you Mordred-san."
Shiori didn't recognize the name, she wasn't really one to read fairytales, but she guessed it was a western name. Kotori on the other hand felt that she had heard that name somewhere before, but she couldn't quite figure out where she had.
Anyway, the conversation between Shiori was brief, it was already late out so not much could be done. Though Shiori had managed to convince Mordred to go on an outing with her. Just to be clear, it was NOT a date, just two close acquaintances meeting up, nothing more.
And now Mordred in her home away from home, laid in her bed, dressed in red pajamas, stared up at the ceiling. With a mental thought, the system popped before her, though now it looked a bit different than before. The familiar transparent blue panels now had some decorations added to it, giving it a fantasy vibe.
'I've been putting off exploring the update the system got, might as well do it now before I end up forgetting about it.'
"Ava what did the update add?"
[It is good that the host has not forgotten about me]
'Huh? Has she always been like this?'
[The update has unsealed chosen parameters, skills and items. New title and class feature has been added to your status. New items have been added to the shop. System bugs have been fixed, and user interface has been changed to be more user friendly; quest system has been updated to add new quest features to divide quests into Daily, Standard and World quests, and integration of the Noble Phantasm Helm of Secret Pedigree into Incursio]
'Quite a bit. Wait the system had bugs?' She decided to shelve that thought. "I've already seen the unsealed stuff so tell me about the title and class features."
[Titles are unique modifiers granted based on the host's achievements, actions and reputation. Titles can enhance abilities and skills, give passive buffs to yourself and allies and give debuffs to enemies or the title can be purely cosmetic, providing no benefits. Only one title can be equipped at a time but can be changed whenever the host wishes]
"Interesting, do I have any titles?"
[Knight of Rebellion / Knight of Treachery / Knight of the Roundtable / King Slayer / Kin Slayer / Child of a Witch / Girl Failure / Scavenger / Soldier / Mercenary Leader / Capitalist]
She stared at the long list of titles, but one title grabbed her attention. "Girl Failure!! What the hell does that mean!"
Ava didn't answer immediately. Instead, there was an awkward pause—as if the system was considering how to best phrase what was about to come next.
[The title "Girl Failure" is awarded to a woman who is endearingly inept, pathetic, or chaotic, often characterized by anxiety, indecisiveness, or a lack of conventional success]
"WHAT?!!"
[Criteria include but are not limited to: excessive aggression, violent tendencies, lack of domestic skills, inability to flirt properly, complete absence of fashion sense, high hostility toward traditional romantic expectations, and chronic sarcasm]
Mordred's eye twitched, her hand gripped tightly as if wishing Clarent were in her hand right now.
[This title is purely cosmetic]
"As if that makes it any better!"
[Several titles may come with unconventional names. The system chooses phrasing to best reflect the nature and tone of the achievement. Host's reactions are logged for calibration]
[Would you like to view class information next?]
She couldn't help but feel that Ava was trying to quickly change the topic.
"Fine, before I break something"
[Your aggression has been logged]
Her eyes became hyper focused on the system panel as Clarent Materialized in her hand. "Ava..." She no longer cared if she couldn't harm the system, she was at the breaking point now.
[Displaying class information now]
The interface shifted smoothly, now showing another panel.
[Classes are structured progression paths that focus the host's development into specialized roles or disciplines. A class will unlock unique passive or active abilities tied to that class and alter skill growth rates]
[The host may only have one class enabled at a time. Changing classes can be done at will but benefits will not be carried over. Some hybrid or unique classes may offer dual-path progression]
[Currently seven classes are available to you]
[Saber / Lancer / Archer / Caster /Assassin / Berserker / Rider]
"So, the standard classes from Fate. And how do I unlock new classes?"
[New classes can be obtained by practicing a discipline until a class is generated or a class can be purchased in the shop]
"Alright, let's just stick with Saber."
[Saber]
[+20% to swordsmanship growth]
[+5% to magic resistance growth]
"Neat, so what items were added to the shop?"
[Items that have been added to the shop: 787,345 items. New category added: Talents, Classes, gacha]
"Talents and gacha?" She felt a sense of foreboding, her luck was never the greatest, even in her past life, yet she was addicted to gacha games!
[Talents increase the potential of the user in the selected field. Can be purchased and transferred to another person]
[The gacha has a random pool of items that can be drawn using points]
"Hey, aren't you adding to many things? I might not even use all these features."
The shop panel opened up, yet the shop displayed was completely different from what Mordred had seen in the past. Now, it resembled an online shopping mall, with the front page filled with recommended items and deals.
"What the hell? This looks like Temu!"
Then, she saw it. The dreaded gacha tab!
The tab opened, showing the scam like standard banner! And a 50% off on the first 10 pull!
No! She would not fall for this trap! She knew better! She turned away, not daring to face it.
~DING~
"Huh?"
As she turned back to face the screen, the gacha animation was already playing. Shock filled her eyes, until she looked down, and saw her finger pressed against the screen.
Mordred brought her hand away, staring at it. "What have I done..." Now she could only watch as her precious points be whisked away...
~DING~
The gacha stopped and 10 cards appeared on the screen. One by one the cards flipped revealing the item.
[1x Canned Chicken Noodle Soup]
[1x Energy Drink]
[1x Energy Drink]
[1x 12 case of Soda]
[1x Box of 9mm bullets]
[1x Hatsune Miku 1/8 Scale Figure]
[1x Character Card: Protectron]
[1x Book: What is the Purpose of Life?]
[1x Character Card: Akashi]
[1x Chocolate Cake]
[All items have been delivered to the host's inventory]
'Is this good?' She truly didn't know. She didn't even know what type of items were in the gacha pool.
Pulling out the figurine first, she examined it. 'Well, its high quality, that's for sure. But why the hell is this here?'
Was the system trying to scam her by diluting the gacha pool with meaningless items? Most likely. She didn't even see a pity system!
The only two interesting items were the character cards. Looking at the cards now in her hands, they both had images on the front. A protectron robot that she recognized from Fallout 4 and a small green haired cat girl from Azur Lane.
The protectron was useless to her, its combat efficiency sucked.
But Akashi on the other hand, was very useful. Her combat prowess was not as good as a standard Kansen or ship girl. Even lacking firepower to compete against a destroyer.
Akashi was a repair ship, but also a very good engineer and a greedy merchant!
If she employed Akashi, wouldn't she build tons of useful things that could be sold? If she put her in the sales department, couldn't she make tons of money?
It was tempting, very tempting, but right now she would have to put it on hold until she returned to Remnant, which would be soon.
While she did like this world, it was boring. She felt that even though she had some knowledge of the story and could interact with all the characters, she couldn't really change anything.
She lacked too much information and most of all, lacked strength. She knew of Mio's powers since she had spoiled some parts of the story for herself, so she could confidently say that she would not win against Mio.
Besides, it was still early in the story so there was no rush to make grand changes here. On the other hand, the beginning of RWBY's story was going to start soon and she wanted to be there.
This was a time where Cinder was guaranteed to show up, and how could she just let her get away? It was sure to cause some problems by taking the Maiden powers that Cinder currently had, but what could Ozpin do about it?
Call Ironwoods to deploy Atlas forces? No, he's not that dumb, well, at least Mordred hopes.
But, as she laid there, a thought came to her mind. A brilliant idea.
She took out the protectron character card and held it in her hands.
'Perhaps I do have a use for you...'
...
...
A month later, Mordred was ready to head back to Remnant.
She spent some time with Shiori and interacting with Tohka, Yoshino and Kotori.
As for the Yakuza, well...
"While I'm gone, you will all follow Shiori's orders without hesitation. If any of you step out of line... I'm sure you all understand what happens to traitors in this line of work." Mordred spoke to the large gathering of executives. On her right side was Shiori who was trying to remain calm being in a room filled with dangerous criminals who looked like they wanted to gut her like a fish.
"And as for the Takoyaki business. We will continue to expand it across Japan, but Chef Takahashi will be left in charge of its expansion!"
And on her left side was the protectron robot, wearing a chef hat and was spray painted with decal that represented the food stand.
"PROTECT AND SERVE"
When Mordred first introduced the robot, they were confused. Why would she assign this robot to handle the Takoyaki business, where did she even get this machine. They questioned her motives, until they saw the robot perfectly cook and handle a food stand by itself!
Instead of asking where their boss got this robot. Now they were asking, are we going to be replaced with AI?
Shiori wasn't all that stunned by the robot after everything she has seen so far. I mean, her sister is literally the commander of a flying battleship that looks like it came from a fantasy world! And girls flying around in mecha suits! What was the surprise in this clunky and clumsy robot? If anything, it's the most normal thing she has seen in recent time.
"You are all dismissed!"
With those words, all the executives left the room including Takahashi who slowly walked out the door, leaving Mordred alone with Shiori.
"Um... Mordred-san, are you sure this is a good idea? Leaving me in charge of this... group?" Shiori desperately wanted Mordred to take back what she had said and say something like "it's just a prank".
"Yep, don't worry, you'll be fine. It's not like I'm leaving you to manage things. My lieutenant will do that. If you have any problems with these guys, just tell her and she'll fix the problem".
"You just need to give them some orders every now and then to keep them busy. It could be anything like telling them to buy some stuff for you or even waging war on other Yakuza groups!"
Shiori's face paled at the mention of war.
"Relax, your overthinking things. If you're not sure what to do, just ask your sister. I'm sure she would be glad to have extra manpower to set up your dates with her... strange? Plans". Mordred had always questioned Kotori's way of thinking when it came to creating dates. Always going overboard in extreme ways. Hell, the simple hot springs trip that Kotori had planned that Mordred tagged along with, ended up resulting in all-out war with the AST.
...
When everything was done, and Shiori had left. Mordred disappeared, teleporting back to Remnant.
In a few minutes, she reappeared back in the familiarity of her home. She let out a sigh of relief; she planned to immediately check up on things until she noticed a big problem.
Her front door looked like it was ripped off the hinges, the handle crushed flat.
"Why is my front door broken?"
Before her question was answered, an option was thrown inside the room, landing right at her feet. A small metal cylinder object that she easily recognized as she heavily used them in the past.
"Shi-!"
~BANG~
Her vision was quickly covered in white, and her ears filled with a constant ringing sound that drowned out everything else.
She fell back onto the floor, Incursio manifesting over her body as several heavy footsteps pushed the door wide open and entered the room.
Within seconds, her vision and hearing had recovered enough, and she stood up ready to tear apart the intruders. Except, why were they wearing the equipment that her own forces used?
When they entered, their guns were at the ready, but now, seeing the figure before them, they quickly put their rifles down. And the one who lead them...
"Eh? Boss? What are you doing here?"
That familiar voice from behind the helmet, a voice she knew well.
"Slate... You better have a very good reason for this treachery..." Mordred spoke calmly, yet everyone in the room knew that she was anything but calm.
"..."
"Eh, is this my fault?"
