Episode(115) Void Scythe, Monster
SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(115)
At the same time as I retreated, I swung my free hand through the air.
In response to my movement, mana flowed out into the surroundings forming a variety of swords and spears.
[Lets see-]
What had just happened?
I was sure my energy slash headed straight towards the reaper and yet it appeared before me in a flash like nothing happened.
With such thoughts, before the reaper could react to my evasion and begin to chase I snapped my fingers and the swords and spears made out of mana shot forward leaving behind a streak of light trailing through the air.
I wanted to test whether it was magic immunity or something else altogether.
Perhaps it was whatever made me feel that this non-lethal pile of sheets was somewhat threatening.
Watching intently as the attacks blazed through the air and arrived before the opponent in an instant, Nagisa's unblinking eyes opened even wider the next moment.
With a spin of the scythe, twirling it skillfully he only saw the reaper slice the scythe blade through empty air.
Yet, the very next second space was ruptured and he saw the blade cut open space like a hot knife slicing through butter.
[Hah!?]
What-
What in the world did I just see?
Space, was space torn open? By a mere ghost?
How?
Just how in the world was this situation possible?
His eyes shook fiercely as the attacks centered on the reaper were all swallowed into the empty void beyond ruptured space and even up to the last moment he could not understand it at all.
Who could fault me at this moment? Seeing such a sight just tell me who could remain sane!?
Just what the hell was the logic behind this nonsense?
But, I didn't even have the time to panic.
The flow of magic in the surroundings behind me shifted. It was only slight, so slight that no one else would have felt it.
Yet, how could Nagisa with his monstrous magic sensitivity not feel the shift in the surrounding magical power?
His eyes just barely turned when he saw a familiar sight.
Behind him, space ruptured opening a crack into endless nothingness.
Yet even as there was nothing, countless magical attacks rained down on him like a storm.
How…perfect!
The attacks struck heavily. His armor was dented and shattered in places and his clothes, what remained of the uniform was torn.
As expected of my attacks, but don't think reflecting my own attacks will work!
With that thought, he stretched a hand towards the incoming attacks and clenched.
In an instant, all the attacks stopped midair.
This is all my magic power, even if I was caught off guard by the quick transfer through space It surely isn't enough that I can't control it.
Clenching his fist even further, the attacks burst apart becoming starlight as they fused into the surrounding.
I looked at the closing rupture in thought.
From tearing open space to transferring attacks, it took no more than a tenth of a second.
This was fast even for himself.
I can still react, but if I use an attack that bypasses defenses and it sends it back while my focus is elsewhere this could be dangerous.
However he shrugged.
If the one holding that scythe was at his level or higher it probably could have been a bigger threat, but aside from watching out for attacks from the scythe the reaper seemed to be nothing special.
Still-
[Space magic huh?]
It was as cool as he thought it would be.
[You've got some neat tricks don't you?]
The scythe was still mostly an unknown variable, not to mention it was hard to tell whether or not the reaper itself had any trump cards.
Sigh!
Being this cautious against a scrub makes me feel embarrassed.
[No matter-]
Bring it all, no matter what cards you have hiding all I need to do it crush it into dust.
Suddenly, as I made a move to stomp on the ground that sensation of mana twisting appeared beneath my feet.
Space split open, if not for my quick reaction making a foothold beneath my feet and jumping away I would have fallen through.
Maybe it just wanted my leg to go through then close the tear and chop off my leg, but the thought of falling into space was terrifying.
So it could do that as well?
Once again adjusting the threat level in my heart, I stepped off empty air charging at the reaper with a faster speed than before.
At the same time I created two ice drills and sent them flying.
With a blinding speed, the ice drills arrived before the reaper but with a tap of the spear blade in the empty space a rupture swallowed the two attacks.
Behind!
I felt the shift in mana and twisted my body switching the hand holding the sword as I gathered momentum for a vertical slash.
Yet, as my dancing figure arrived before the reaper swinging down I felt the space shift and the other ice drill I had sent earlier shot at point blank range, with the same blinding speed at my temple.
Woah!
I kicked off the air, somersaulting away as the ice drill missed just inches of tearing through my skull.
Landing, I made another mental judgement.
Attacks, no matter how long they are swallowed by the spatial tear do not lose their speed or force.
Nagisa squinted.
Bending his knees he ran half a circle flanking the reaper before darting towards it, his speed picking up another pace.
The blade came it thrusting at an unavoidable angle for the reaper, yet it merely stood still as another rupture formed swallowing the blade tip.
It was Nagisa however who had to quickly shift his head as the same crystal clear sword tip was stabbing towards the back of his head.
Nagisa stepped back and moved, his movements like a blur and he casted multiple magic and shadow attacks blasting them towards the reaper.
The idea itself is simple.
It seemed to not even need to swipe at space to create a tear, just a small shift of the scythe and it could tear open a crack.
But, can it keep up with my speed?
Shu!
His figure moved so fast that barely a blur was left behind and several shadow and water attacks flew towards the reaper at a high speed.
Yet, the monster stood still as the magic flew through cracks in space and cracks formed whenever the sword or a fist closed in on its body.
Although the monster barely did anything from moving its position, Nagisa had to constantly deflect attacks while pausing his sword at the last second to avoid backstabbing himself.
How is it reacting?
It didn't make sense at all? At his speed, Nagisa could clearly tell that this monster would be unable to keep up normally and yet it reacted so swiftly.
It was as if it had a completely understanding and perception of the space around itself easily predicting his attacks.
Wait-
Space? That scythe, did it also grant one a complete perspective of their spatial surroundings?
What to do, what to do?
Nagisa honestly wanted to hold back a bit more to enjoy the fight but that weapon was more of a threat than he had imagined.
However, I didn't expect this at all.
Was this indeed the boss monster? It seems I really can't underestimate any of the boss monsters in this dungeon.
Even the weak ones have powerful cheat weapons that do all the work for them.
No, I couldn't be sure whether or not this was truly the boss monster. Perhaps it just picked up a powerful weapon somewhere in this place.
Even so-
[I can't waste too much time against this thing if it isn't the boss]
There was no way to know if it was if he didn't kill it and killing it was the fastest way to find out.
Since I can't enjoy the fight anymore, it's better to just erase this guy and move on.
[It's time to end this back and forth now]
Saying so, Nagisa activated a portion of the mana inside his body and streaks of magical power swirled around his body sweeping up the air as it flowed within him.
The density of mana made the air creak thick with pressure as if a beast were descending.
The radiance of his golden pupils lit up like two small suns and his aura flared to the sky.
[Haha, lets fight!]
At the side, the spirit queen who had yet to close her mouth could only think of one word when looking at this human.
[Monster]
