SOVEREIGN OF DEATH~(117)
The figure appeared in his spatial awareness as if the human had teleported.
The phantom didn't even have time to flick its wrist and activate the scythe, forget that even dodging was impossible.
The sword tore through the air carving deep through its shoulder and diagonally down its back.
In that moment, the reaper had several questions it wanted to ask.
Where had the human vanished to and how did it slip past the spatial awareness of the scythe?
Secondly, how had he been hit?
Yes, like spiritual beings this reaper had the attribute to avoid attacks that did not contain powerful mana or the three major attributes of mana including darkness, light and holy magic.
However Nagisa was a user of dark magic, the shadow type.
Even then, he should have been unable to physically or magically wound it. This was because of the reapers innate trait-
<
With this skill, it could freely slip between the physical realm and become separated from the world allowing it to avoid even elemental attacks.
At most, the spirit that was huddled in the corner could cause some damage since it wielded spiritual matter but, with its spatial scythe not to mention that the level difference was not that large it could easily avoid her attacks.
A none-spiritual creature should have been unable to wound it and yet from start to finish this human had bypassed his trait again and again.
What was happening here?
What it did not know was, although Nagisa was not a spiritual creature he had dealt with spiritual matter before and even perfectly imitated the fluctuations of this power to create a pseudo soul.
It was an unconscious application in this fight, but ghosts unlike spirits did not have control over spiritual matter.
While a ghost had a spiritual vessel, they were still a magical creature and thus could not use this energy at all.
Then there was Nagisa who had almost perfect control over this energy, was there a comparison at all?
Waves of spiritual matter particles leaked from the ghost's body spurting almost like blood.
Ignoring the wound, the reaper spun the scythe twisting its body in a full circle.
[Hehe, don't get too excited yet-]
It seemed shaken for some reason but I judged that it must have been shocked that I evaded its perception.
As for landing the attack even though it was a ghost, Nagisa did not know anything about ghost and spirit type monster to even know that one needed to incorporate major magical attribute or whatnot, and he would not care.
Just battle!
If he couldn't hit now he would just figure it out later.
Ghost steps activated and I stomped off air twisting my body over the attack and with another slash I carved an 'X' shape in the reapers' back.
But, the reaper seemed to not feel any pain at all and twisted the scythe its body following the momentum.
Shifting slighty, the scythe trailed diagonally across the air and I stepped back the next moment increasing the distance as a vertical slash came flying.
Standing in the air far away, I looked at the reaper and grinned.
[Come on!]
This wasn't nearly as stimulating enough of a battle for me.
I wanted to see more of that scythes power here and now.
With that, I stepped forward slinking into the nearby shadows.
Using spatial perception to perceive the traces of mana, the reaper felt the area before it shift slighty and spun the scythe to block.
[Wrong!]
Slipping out from the shadow of the wall I slashed another gash deep in its back before my figure sunk once more into the shadows.
Again, the reaper tried to anticipate my movements, its scythe moving where it felt a disturbance-
[Wrong again!]
The sword carved through its chest and my figure vanished yet again too quickly for it to even respond.
[Wrong]
[Wrong]
[Wrong]
[Wrong!]
A sword plunged deep into the reapers chest, my smile twisting fiercely as I sent it flying with a kick and stood in the air.
[Let's call this the clincher!]
It was already time to end this.
I wanted to see more of the scythes power but if this was all it had to show then it was boring.
With that thought, I poured magical power into night fall and leapt through the air. Using my fall to gather even more momentum I increased the strength holding the sword slightly and slashed down.
The reaper, still in the rubble of the wall held up the scythe to block the attack in a hurry.
[Not this time!]
Clang!
The force was heavy, the reaper couldn't even resist as he crashed down along the side of the wall completely destroying it until a crater was formed where it landed.
The entire side of the wall was shattered from the descent, the path trailed by the reaper like a meteor had carved open the wall.
I looked at this scene of destruction and felt my blood pumping.
[What a rush!]
I could already tell the reaper had yet to die. Rather, the scythe seemed to have some ability that absorbed the force of the attacks.
Perhaps it killed the attack by sending it to another space or dividing the force when the sword hit. I had no way of knowing but that hardly mattered.
[More! Let's continue!]
Now that I knew it had more things to show I was excited.
As if boosted by this shout, the figure of the reaper jutted out of the dust clouds with an even faster speed than before and swiped the air with its scythe.
There was nothing after it slashed, no magical energy nor an energy blade.
And yet-
I leaned back entrusting my body to gravity before stepping away with ghost steps as the wall behind me was split open by an invisible blade.
Increased speed and an invisible blade?
I was right, it still had more moves up its sleeves.
I licked my lips, well that works out fine anyway. Saves me the time to find out all its functions on my own later.
Seeing that it missed, the reaper spun its body and swung another invisible blade.
Not only was it invisible, there were almost no fluctuations of mana at all. A spatial blade?
It seemed that attacks with the spatial attribute were silent and deadly.
However my perception was already at the point where I could sense the fluctuations of magic beyond the level of the tiny dust particles floating through the air.
I easily pinpointed the trajectory of the attack and shifted my body.
Crash!
The cave wall split apart without resistance. The spatial blade seemed to contain a high amount of destructive force.
I constantly wove through the net of spatial blades that came endlessly like falling rain.
[Crazy stuff!]
The reaper kept spinning and firing off spatial blades without even a second to think. Did it not use mana for the attack at all?
Perhaps the scythe did not require any mana cost for it's use.
Whatever-
With a grin, Nagisa somersaulted twisting upside down as he watched the reaper spinning and twisting constantly moving the scythe to fire off spatial attacks.
Anybody else would have been slashed into pieces by this onslaught.
And not only that, as the ghosts' killing intent surged so did its power.
What was going on, why was it gaining strength by the minute??
Suddenly a shout came from the side.
[Human! Ghost-type creatures gain strength the more resentment they have inside them, you should finish this quickly!]
Aha! So that was it, and no wonder. Nagisa had constantly been poking at its weakness and playing around all this time.
So it will get stronger as time passes?
[Sounds fun]
Just where was the limits of such an ability? He wanted to see. Curiosity mixed with the urge to fight a powerful earth shattering battle overwhelmed him to the point of going crazy.
[Show me everything you have!]
Twisting, Nagisa pressed off the air as he flew back becoming a streak of dark light vanishing deep into the shadows.
The next moment, without even a breath he appeared grabbing the ghost's neck.
So you get stronger the more I humiliate you huh?
He grinned and applied force.
Then, let's test it out.
Crash!
Debris scattered everywhere as the ghost was face planted directly into the cavern wall.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Slamming it a few more times, Nagisa spun a kick sending it crashing against the wall and splashing up water as it sunk into the pool of water.
[Not yet huh?]
I raised a hand causing the water to rise into a fist, within that fist was the reaper its arms sprawled still desperately holding the scythe and its power rising quickly.
Pouring mana into my sword I slashed out an energy blade. It had no lethal power but the density of mana sent the reaper flying.
It quickly regained its footing in the air, its reflexes faster than before as it prepared to launch an attack.
However I was nowhere to be seen.
Just in that moment, without even a warning I appeared behind it my blade slashing down and cutting through its entire shoulder severing its arm.
