Chapter 126 - Chapter 126: The Fall of the Phoenix’s head

After getting all the information from Hagrid, Amelia ordered Aurors to bring in the different members of the Order of Phoenix.

She already knew about them and their involvement from Voldemort, but all this interrogation was just a way to let the Ministry know about them. Voldemort knew how Minister Fudge was; he would not take this revelation lightly.

Together with Rufus, Amelia interrogated the various members, and after many hours, they were done. Their involvement with the giants, their meeting with Sirius Black, and all their different plans were revealed.

Amelia sat behind her desk at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. She allowed herself a rare, fleeting smile as she thought of how well everything was falling into place.

Everything had unfolded precisely as Voldemort had orchestrated.

Voldemort's pawn inside Hogwarts, Daphne Greengrass, was successful in beginning Voldemort's plan. Her intervention has allowed an innocent life to be sacrificed. This caused a domino effect: the death of Justin, setting up a set of events. The killing of the giant Grawp, the arrest of Hagrid, his revelation of the Order of Phoenix, and its association with Sirius Black.

After Remus Lupin, Molly Weasley, and Arthur Weasley were brought to the investigation room, Amelia fished out all the needed information in front of the other Aurors to create a complete set of information needed to put the Order on the wrong side of Public opinion.

And now the last part of the event was going to take place.

Just then, there was a knock on the door, and after receiving permission, Rufus Scrimgeour entered.

"All the reporters are here," Rufus said. "I've already informed Minister Fudge, and he told you to proceed with the press conference. He will be coming shortly."

Together, they walked from her office and got to the elevators.

Their destination was level 8.

When they reached the Atrium, the vast open space was buzzing with the energy of reporters, Aurors, and Ministry officials.

For a few months, this had become a recurring event.

Amelia glanced at Rufus, then took a deep breath, straightening her posture as she stepped forward to face the reporters. The world was going to watch, and with everything carefully set in motion, she was ready to spin the tale that would reinforce the Ministry's position and change the public's opinion while Voldemort could act freely in the background.

She raised her hand, and the murmurs slowly faded into silence.

"Witch and wizard," Amelia began, "It is with a heavy heart that I stand before you today to inform you of yet another tragic event that has shaken our Wizarding World, but this time, it happened at the core of our school, Hogwarts. A student, Justin Finch-Fletchley, was found dead in the vicinity of the Forbidden Forest."

All the quills abruptly stopped, and there was no more sound of photos being taken. Some wizards had their mouths open in complete shock.

"What makes this case even more disturbing is that, through testimony gathered from several students, we learned that the Forbidden Forest was home to a giant. The evidence strongly suggests that this giant was responsible for the death of Justin Finch-Fletchley. Upon discovering this information, I took immediate action. I mobilized a team of Aurors, and together, we ventured into the forest, determined to bring justice to the victim. Through swift coordination, we successfully located and hunted down the giant responsible. It was a difficult and dangerous operation, but we succeeded."

She paused again, letting the weight of her words sink in, before continuing with the next part of her narrative.

"At first, we believed that the giant might have been linked to the Death Eaters, considering the timing of these events and the history of such creatures aligning with dark forces. However, as the investigation unfolded, it became clear that there were other forces at play here."

And now for the grand reveal.

"It was none other than Rubeus Hagrid, the half-giant professor of Care of Magical Creatures at Hogwarts, who was responsible for bringing such a dangerous creature into the Forbidden Forest."

Another wave of shock rippled through the room.

"Now, we never thought, when we first arrested Hagrid and began interrogating him, that we would uncover such a tangled web of treachery and deceit. Through our careful investigation, we found out Hagrid was part of a secretive organization, known as the Order of the Phoenix, led by none other than Albus Dumbledore. A so-called group of 'resistance fighters' that, in reality, had been operating outside the bounds of the law. But the most shocking revelation came from further interrogations of other members of this so-called Order, such as the Weasleys and Remus Lupin.

We learned that they have been harboring and protecting Sirius Black... the very same Sirius Black who escaped from Azkaban, a convicted murderer, and a fugitive on the run. Yes, you heard me right. The Order of the Phoenix has been aiding and abetting a known murderer. And guess what!"

Amelia's voice became even colder as she leaned forward.

"We uncovered a chilling truth. Sirius Black, the murderer, is none other than an unregistered Animagus, capable of transforming into a dog, exactly as I witnessed during the breakout at Azkaban."

*Merlin's beard*

The reaction from the crowd was in total disbelief.

Amelia Bones watched for minutes at the reaction of the crowd before looking beyond the crowd at where the fireplace was located, which was used for the floo network. She kept looking as if waiting for someone to appear, and soon enough, a wizard in a grey robe popped up from the green flames. All eyes were immediately on the figure.

It was him.

Albus Dumbledore.

The crowd watched him overtake them and go straight toward Amelia and Rufus until he came to a halt directly in front of them.

"I, Albus Percival Wulfric Brian Dumbledore," he began, his voice loud and clear as every wizard became frozen and carefully listened to his words, "take full responsibility for all that has transpired. The presence of the giant in the Forbidden Forest. The actions of the Order of the Phoenix. And the protection of Sirius Black. These were my decisions and mine alone. Therefore, I am here to surrender myself to the Ministry of Magic."
