Chapter 3 - Planing for the future

It's been a week since I was transported to the new world. Things are going well, for the most part. I think people are catching on to something. Well, it's not like I can hide it. I'm a horrible actor. The fact that their heartless king actually started doing his job instead of leaving it to the court was a big surprise.

Not only that, but one night when he returned to his chamber, two of his concubines were waiting for him, lying there naked on his bed. Blood rushed out of his nose, rushing outside and blushing madly. If anyone had seen this event, they wouldn't believe them. Decem Hougan, the cold, stoic King of the elves, running outside his chamber with a face beet red because of women? Impossible!

However, reality can sometimes be disappointing. Sighing, Decem focused on the papers on his desk. These are the reports submitted by the royal court. Why are there so many of them? Is this my fate, forced to work on an endless sea of paperwork?

I kinda understand Ainz now. Picking up one of the papers, he saw something that caught his eyes. The report stated an influx of dark elves entering the country. Dark elves, huh? From what he could remember, there are barely any dark elves in the country. Most of them live in the Great Forest of Tob.

Wait, Forest of Tob, Dark elves. I think I read something before that dark elves used to live in the Forest of Tob a hundred years ago. I remember now, the demon gods came to this place a hundred years ago. That means Ainz won't be here for the next hundred years. Facepalming hard, focus, dark elves, Forest of Tob.

I need to meet them; maybe they have alchemists that could help me with my project. If my theory is right, then I have at least a hundred years to prepare for Nazerick. Before his thoughts could wander any further, the sound of knocks reverberated throughout the chamber.

"Your Majesty, it's Aerin." Startled by the sudden knock, Decem straightened his posture. "Ah, yes, please come in." An elven woman, Aerin, slowly entered the room. Among Decem's concubines, she had the highest social standing, being the only one to successfully give birth to an exceptionally powerful child. Yes, this is Aerin, the mother of Ark.

Aerin slowly walked in front of him and took a graceful bow. "Your Majesty, I am here to inform you that the people you have requested have arrived and are waiting for you in the guest area." Finally, they've arrived. The people she's referring to are the engineers and architects who would be helping me plan my project.

Recently, I have been thinking about how I would start building proper infrastructure throughout the Kingdom. Despite this country being one of the oldest in the region, there's barely any form of development. It's like they just stopped building anything other than trees. Though building things in a jungle has a lot of challenges.

Building roads, for example, would not only disrupt the environment but maintaining them would be hard. There's also the problem of keeping the monsters in check. The road would just turn into a hunting ground for monsters if not done right. Another thing I learned is that they don't have any form of education. I mean, most of them are taught by their family, and that's just basic things.

The country needs proper education for other jobs to develop and roads to connect every town and village. I need to fix this fast. Getting up from his seat, Decem spoke, "Very well, take me to them."

Running through a field of grass, a group of people could be seen running from something. "Everyone, keep running, we're almost there." Out of breath, Strawberry, the young dark elf, couldn't stop the shaking fear coursing through her body. They had barely escaped the demon tree, and now they were being chased by beastmen.

She could see it—the large trees that outlined the Forest of Evasha. Getting here wasn't easy, as there was an ongoing war with the elves and the theocracy. They had no choice but to travel to the beastman-infested area, the Abelion Hills.

"Roar!" The horde of beastmen would catch up to them soon; they needed to slow them down. If only her father were here, he would have found a way to hold them off. Strawberry quickly assessed their situation. The Forest of Evasha, known as the sacred land of the elves, is under the protection of the elf king.

She knew they had to reach its protective canopy before the pursuing beastmen caught up. "Everyone, head for the trees! We can lose them in the forest!" One of the elves shouted, his voice carrying a sense of urgency.

As they approached the edge of the forest, Strawberry spotted a large tree with thick branches that seemed perfect for climbing. She gestured towards it, "Up there! We can make a stand and slow them down!"

The group, fueled by fear, sprinted towards the tree. The first few managed to start climbing, but the beastmen were closing in fast. Strawberry drew a bow from her side and turned to face their pursuers.

She might be young, but she's been trained by her father in the art of archery. "Cover those climbing! We can't let them catch us!" she commanded, her eyes scanning the surroundings for any advantage.

The beastmen, a mix between humanoid and tiger, had large frames that dwarfed all the elves, carrying with them brandished crude weapons as they closed in. Strawberry took a deep breath, steadying herself for the impending clash.

Just as the first beastman lunged at her, a cold voice came from the forest. "[Martial Arts: Gale Shot]" a sonic boom reverberated throughout the field. The arrow struck the beastmen directly in the head. Blood splattered everywhere, then a silhouette leapt in front of them.

The entity had silver hair and carried an enchanted golden bow, the price for such equipment must be staggering. To her utter astonishment, the person in front was barely an adult, probably even the same age as her. Before her thoughts could wander off, the person did something. "[Martial Arts: Rain of Arrows]" the arrow he shot suddenly multiplied and started hitting the beastmen.

One by one, the beastmen fell, their bodies hitting the ground like puppets whose strings had been cut. The beastmen, seeing that they were outmatched, retreated to the hills. Strawberry, still in a daze, reverted back to her senses. "Thank you for saving us! We don't have much, but please tell us how we can repay you?" The others nodded along. "Yeah, please accept our offer," one of the dark elves spoke.

The wood elf finally turned around to face them. He then spoke in a cold voice, "That's not needed, I have been ordered to assist all dark elves in taking refuge in the elven Kingdom." Everyone was completely shocked, their faces didn't even hide the fact. It was not because of his cold voice but because of his eyes, they're heterochromia.

Walking to the halls of the elven royal palace, Decem thought about how he should approach the dark elf refugees. Earlier in the office, he was thinking about whom to send to assist the dark elves in taking refuge in the country before he was so rudely interrupted by Aerin. Shaking his head at the memory, he focused on his destination.

He was about to enter the guest room when he saw who was guarding the door. A young wood elf with silver hair and heterochromia eyes, he carried a golden bow, standing guard near the entrance. "Kaelan!" Taking the attention of the kid, he immediately straightened his posture. "My king, how may I assist you?"

Kaelan, huh? From what I can remember, he's one of my kids. Well, it's not like it's hard to guess when he's literally a carbon copy of you. "Kaelan, what are you doing here? Shouldn't you be training?"

"I have been assigned here by the captain to guard the guest room until further notice." Captain? Does he mean Ark? Why would Ark assign him to this? Shaking his head, he then thought, wait, what if I send Kaelan to assist the dark elves? No, that's too dangerous. I'm not sending a child near the borders of the kingdom.

It's one of the dangerous places for an elf right now. Contemplating, he sighed. Well, it might be dangerous, but not if I send guards to protect him. Plus, it would be an invaluable experience for him. From what I could remember, he's currently one of the strongest among my kids. Not near Ark's level, but stronger than the majority of the elves.

Finally deciding, he spoke, "Kaelan, I have a mission for you." As he was about to open the doors to the upcoming meeting, he looked behind upon Kaelan's retreating form. I hope what I did was right. It's totally not forced child labor. Shaking his head, he entered the room.

The room where a bunch of people could be seen arguing about something suddenly turned quiet upon his arrival. Their bodies frozen in shock, some even quaking in fear. He slowly walked to the table and sat. "Well, gentlemen, what a lovely day, isn't it?"
