"How?! How's he doing this?"The knife's getting closer—what should I do? If it reaches me—
The man saw a vision as clear as day, a premonition from the other side: a bloodied head soaring through the air and a corpse hitting the ground. One final glimpse of the world before he passes.
Fear.
The air stopped for a moment. But instead of this being the predicted moment, Konin felt an overwhelming urge to run away and his obedience is what saved him from a gruesome fate.
A beam of light engulfed the man and spread quickly to everything around him. It was silent, and nothing looked like it was being destroyed, but it's sheer presence-it's unbelievable mass and it's opaque glow that engulfed the city could leave anyone with nothing but fear.
After ten seconds, the spreading stopped. Konin slid away and took cover behind a flipped car.
Moments passed. The light faded and the city returned to view. Nothing but the sound of car horns and running water filled the air.
Konin lowered his head and checked his phone. The time had jumped ahead by a minute. He shut it off, then peeked again—
Halt.
An eye shrouded in light hovered inches from his face. Its body was stone, jutting out from the palm of a massive hand. It spoke in a voice of its own, and its command couldn't be disobeyed.
Everything started taking the form of hands—cars, buildings, even the clouds. Each one had an eye in the center of its palm. The smaller ones crawled all over Konin in swarms while the larger ones slowly crept toward him.
Konin sat there motionless as the ground beneath him sank and his vision was swallowed whole. There was nothing he could do.
