As they moved through the trees, Tian Shen Ji felt the wind whipping past his face with such force it stung his eyes. He looked up at his father, the sheer speed they were traveling was mind-boggling. No human should be capable of this, yet here was his father, breaking every law of physics.
Tian Xin frowned slightly, for the moment he had laid the eyes on the pack. No, even earlier for the moment he had laid eyes on those merchants his mind had been on overdrive he had thought of many things that could go wrong and many plans to solve them but not to this extent. He now had to calculate every variable, every route, every possibility that could work in their favor and escape this calamity. He knew they couldn't just run; the Moon Wolves were trackers by nature. Then, it struck him, a flash of inspiration. He slowed his pace just enough to set Tian Shen Ji on his feet.
"What are you doing, Dad? We need to run!" Shen Ji cried.
Tian Xin looked at him, and for a fleeting second, he wanted to lie, he wanted to say everything will be okay. But he didn't because he knew what was coming, and he didn't want his son's last memory of him to be when he was lying to him. "I am sorry, Shen Ji, but it seems that I will join your mother soon. But you need not worry... I will make sure you do not join us."
"What are you even talking about, Father?"
Smack! The blow was precise and calculated. For the first time in his life, Tian Shen Ji had been hit by his father. He had struck his pressure point at the base of his neck, a simple but useful technique that any decent martial artist knows.
What is happening? Why did Dad hit me... and why am I getting so sleepy...
Tian Shen Ji's vision blurred as he slumped into his father's arms.
"I'm sorry. I am really sorry, my dear son," Tian Xin whispered, his voice breaking as he carried the unconscious boy toward what seemed to be the latrine. "I couldn't be a better father. From here on out, you are on your own."
He lowered the boy into the latrine pit, ensuring he was positioned and covered in the feces. "This should do it. The smell will cover Shen Ji's own scent... plus, he seems to circulate the Eight Hidden Inner Turtle Breaths unconsciously."
The corner of Tian Xin's mouth twitched into a sad, proud smile. "This unreasonable brat of mine is such a monstrous genius. Unfortunately, I won't be here to see what kind of man he becomes."
"That's good then," he muttered, drawing his axe. "With this, the beast shouldn't be capable of finding him." He himself was skilled in tracking but he wasn't sure he could find his son. This small detail made him feel much more at ease.
His eyes and brows relaxed slightly, feeling a strange final peace. He knew his own life was forfeit so in a final act of love he had become a decoy, but as he moved away from the pit and turned to face the darkness, a wolf's howl echoed from above accompanied by the powerful aura of a Black Blood Moon Wolf.
Howl~~
At the moment, Tian Xin felt bitter with regret. If he had not meddled earlier, he and his son would not have fallen into this crisis.
"Just in case for something like this, along the way, he had made sure to erase the scent and the smell on Tian Shen Ji's body, and even sprinkled special medicinal powder."
Tian Xin was at ease.
He went alone towards the Black Blood Moon Wolf it needed to eliminate it. It had probably kept an eye on him, leaving a trail of aura along the way for the other wolves to follow later.
"If I am entangled by this wolf, the Spirit Blood Moon Wolf will be able to track Tian Shen Ji down after killing me and there would be no chance of survival."His heart was filled with killing intent; he let go of any useless thoughts.
Whoosh whoosh!
Howl!
A lone martial artist, the Black Blood Moon Wolf was not afraid.
His eyes showed mockery as it turned into a flash of black a shadow and with a bite straight towards Tian Xin arm but Tian Xin was not flustered at all. In his decently long years, he had improved his body to what his son calls inhuman levels, his physical body was stronger than that of some beasts like the white blood moon wolves.
However, upon clashing of the two, the arm of Tian Xin was almost tore off, but his attack was also fierce and brutal
It turned out that not only did held back, he also concealed part of its strength in the previous battle. Due to this his true strength, especially in close combat, was much stronger than imagined.
"Ha ha ha! Good, the Black Blood Moon Wolf did not take me seriously."
leaving a shallow bloody trail.
The Black Blood Moon Wolf howled, its body stiffening, its venomous gaze fixed on Tian Xin
The wound was shallow but the axe made out of Black Frost Iron was coated with a deadly poison!
Even with the strong physique of demon beasts, it would inevitably suffer some effects.
Howl~
But this still won't do, I need more the a shallow mark and he know wat to do
Tian Xin launched himself using his own hand as a distraction.
He felt the teeth tear into it, a massive, crushing bite that fractured his bone and ripped through muscle. He didn't scream, He smiled widely. He used the contact, to strike a blow powerful enough to shake the wolf to his core.
The Black Blood Moon Wolf was poisoned and inconvenienced. After only defending for once he got cut open, and its nostril almost destroyed
Pow!
He brought the axe down once again with the full, desperate strength of his body. He wanted to slash the wolf's head with another cut of axe to make sure his nose was destroyed for good. But the moment he struck down his heart had pounded wildly, and a chill ran down his spine as if something was watching him.
The feeling lasted only an instant, it seemed like an illusion born of excessive caution and suspicion. But unfortunately it was not excessive caution, it was his instinct. Under the full moon, a giant man with a body covered in silver fur appeared in front of the wolf.
Eyes coldly gazed at the almost ruined face of the wolf. Seeing its nose ruined, his pupils slightly contracted.
The man's eyes were bloodshot, filled with rage. His brain buzzed at the sight of this scene, his body almost shaking.
"God damn it!" the silver-furred man roared. "A 6th Layer Qi Refining Realm... this wolf was one of the few with potential. This will give the bastard Ge Yi the reason he needs to make my life a living hell."
The cultivator looked at Tian Xin with pure hatred. "You are just a mortal. Just die like you're supposed to."
In a flash, the man's hand-like claws tore through the air. Tian Xin felt his throat going cold. When a diagonal line of blood spread from his neck down to his pectoral. He tried to reach out his hand one last time, but his body failed him. His head and upper torso separated from his frame, falling backward into the dirt.
And he felt his chest stiffened, his throat feeling cold, when a diagonal line of blood spread across from his right side of neck to below the left pectoral.
