Chapter 93 - The Blood Moon (Log 068)

Right now, I am waiting for Trevor. Nobody has been visiting this room for a while now. It is almost like I have been forgotten. The only thing that I remember from the heist is the part that I had managed to read from the log. After that, whatever happened, I had to learn from Trevor.

According to Trevor, once we fell to the ground, I lost consciousness. He had carried me into the sewers. The only reason that the man managed to do so was due to the blood moon. (I will speak about it in a bit.) The soldiers of the Bloodfire gang are under complete chaos due to the blood moon. So nobody attacked him as he carried me to safety.

Also, the mission this time has been a success. Trevor had the presence of mind to sneak to the cupboard and take the ledgers that were needed. (He might have inevitably destroyed that environmental formation). It is good because there is no way in hell that we will be able to infiltrate that place again.

They have locked up that place completely now. There is no way that we will be able to sneak into that place. (I don't dare to bet against Trevor, though.) Right now, I have more pressing worries anyway.

Well, ever since I started the fire, the moon has disappeared in this place. It is now replaced by the blood moon. It is not the moon. I don't know how I know it, but this is not the moon.

Well, this is not the first time that I have seen a blood moon. I have never seen it in this form, though. A blood moon is one of the greatest weapons that can be used by a vampire. When it appears to support a vampire, it can make fighting them a nightmare. They will grow stronger. Their wounds heal in moments. They can fight for hours at a stretch.

They can also cast blood magic that they would not have been able to cast otherwise. Magic so destructive that a blood moon is usually considered the sign of destruction.

It can also appear as a punishment, though. I have never seen that myself. It is not something you usually do in enemy territory. I know that it is supposed to be quite painful and one of the worst punishments they can give out in the court.

The blood moon is only affecting blood mana. Under the blood moon, it has been almost impossible to control my blood magic. That is why recovery is taking so long. The steady stream of blood mana that the sword gives has been going on a rampage. It is like a storm hitting the minor bond. I can feel the bond strain as I try to activate the sword.

I am sure that if I were to push it, the bond will break. (I don't even want to imagine what the backlash of that is going to be.) It is not like the blood mana is working properly anyway. The blood mana will just make my injuries worse. That is why I started working on creating the major bond for my mana core. Right now, blood mana is like a charging bull.

This lack of blood mana is affecting me more than I would like to admit. Most of my enhancements, however little they were, have been lost. I have lost all of my regeneration as well.

Well, this is the wrong time for me to lose my healing. The injuries here are even crazier than usual for me. My left arm is almost useless. I can barely make a fist without the entire thing feeling like I have been swimming in a pool of needles. It feels like somebody has been shooting lightning through my arm.

My right arm is injured as well. I seem to have landed on it on my jump through the window. The bone is broken, so I have to keep it in a cast. While I still can't use it, it is better than my left arm. At least it lets me sleep at night.

My left leg is also fucked to a pretty extreme degree. The flames have taken a toll on this leg. It looks like a steak that has been left too long in a fire. It is all black and I can't feel anything at all. (I guess that is a good thing.)

Right now, the only limb that I can use to any degree is my right leg. It has been relatively free of any damage. It is the only limb that I can move without waves of pain shooting through my leg. That is why I have been completely stuck in my room for the last few days.

Right now, the organization is more than happy with our results, though. They don't need to worry about vampires right now. The blood moon has completely screwed the vampires. At the same time, they have even managed to get the ledgers.

So right now, they are more than happy with us. They don't even seem to be bothered about the fact that they have to sneak us closer to the inner keep. The only problem in all of this has been my injuries. We won't be able to leave for the inner keep until my injuries manage to heal fully. This time, the injuries that I have gotten will take some time to heal.

By the way, I have confirmed the identity of the captain whom I might have killed. (Well, I have seen the man crumble into dust, but most of the higher vampires can do that if they feel like it.) He is the hunter, the second in command of the Bloodfire gang. Trevor is more than confident of the fact, though he doesn't tell me how he knows.

Well, I am thankful that I managed to survive that man. This might just be the most terrifying vampire that I have faced. I mean, I have heard about the bloodline hierarchy that they have amongst them. That all higher vampires can command lower vampires. I just never knew that it could be such a powerful and deadly thing. The vampire nobles hold the ability to command those of their kind when they command them.

I know of this ability of theirs. I have seen it in action quite a few times. Now I realize why the lower vampires seem to be so scared of their masters. Even as barely connected to blood mana as I am, the man's command seemed almost impossible to ignore. Thankfully, this ability of theirs seems to be very costly to use. If he had more mana, I would have just stood there burning to death in that direction.

After all, if he had fought me properly, I would have lost my little life. The man was stronger than me in every way. Well, I will lose my head trying to guess the intentions of the vampires. They have schemes within their schemes. I am happy that I am alive right now.

Right now, we are almost certain that we will be able to make it to the inner keep. The organization will take us there. I guess that I might as well speak about the inner keep now. The inner keep is the most important location of the Mayfire castle.

It is the only place in which the Mayfire family could be present right now. That is, unless they are dead or they have all run away. For now, though, they seem to be in there.

At least Trevor is completely sure of that. Personally, I don't know. I mean, I have seen the magic of the mayfires a couple of times before. Their magic is one of the most destructive magics of the soldar plains. They certainly would not be able to hide the effect of their battles if they were going all out in there. No barrier would be enough to pull off something like that.

Well, things in the outer keep are going my way at least. Right now, the entire Bloodfire gang is in chaos. There is no way that they will be able to hold against anybody attacking them right now.

The archer is right now busy trying to hold off an attack force from the guard corps. It means that we will not need to worry about the archer as well. (Especially if he was a vampire as well.) Once the archer is defeated, though, the outer keep is going to be the guard corps.

As for how Trevor can achieve communication with the guard corps, don't ask me. The man has enough mysteries about him that I have stopped thinking about it too much.

Anyway, once we are inside the inner keep, things are going to be a bit easier. The inner keep is right now being surrounded by a very strong magic barrier. Strong enough that it should reduce the effect of the blood moon. It will still be a bit risky to use blood mana, but I will be able to use it for a while.

Right now, I still have to think about how to breach the place. If it is an elemental barrier, then breaching the place is going to be very hard. I don't have any of the appropriate tools to break an elemental barrier.

I hope that it is strong enough to handle divine magic. This moonless lady is a goddess of the vampires if she can summon a blood moon. (I have never heard of her, though. Then again, they are a secretive bunch.)

Right now, I am reasonably confident that I will be able to get into the inner keep, though. I will be able to make a hole in the barrier at its weak point. With that, I will be able to enter the place. At least that is the plan. Right now, I have no idea if I will be able to do that. I will only be able to tell once I get to see that barrier. For example, there will be no weak point if it is an elemental barrier.

Right now, even reaching the barrier is going to be a task of its own. I am more than sure that we can't do it on our own. You see, the inner keep of the Mayfire castle must have a lot of defensive structures built around it. If we were to go about poking into the place without thinking, we would be detected instantly.

Esmerelda must not be the only vampire in the Bloodfire gang. I will not be able to hold off against a group of three or four vampire grunts, even with the blood moon. They might get weaker due to it, but the same is happening to me. Jacob and Andrew would be in a better position, but they are not as experienced with fighting as I am. (Especially with vampires.)

Still, I will be able to at least fight against any force that they send from the guardhouse. Things are going to be much harder in the inner keep. After all, the other side has at least two possessed vampire captains and this leader of theirs. I might have gotten rid of two captains by now, but that was more luck than my strength. I will die in a head-on fight.

We need to breach the inner keep to come into contact with the mayfires. That seems like the only path to our survival. This is purely my instinct, though. We could stay with the organization, though we would have to keep an eye open from now on. They might just as quickly sell us to the vampires now that we have completed our task.

Anyway, something bad is going to happen if we were to stay out here. Of that I am sure. The mayfires will offer us a better chance of survival.
