Lucas is not pleased. He is not pleased at all with Roland's insistence that May will be safe simply because she'll be under Roland's protection.
I can't say I'm exactly pleased with the set up either, mind.
But I do trust Roland. He took care of myself and Talia when we were kids traveling into dangerous places with him, too. And it's not as if I'll stand by and let anyone hurt May, either. It's not May wandering into a dangerous place alone.
She'll chafe quite a bit from being confined, though. That's a problem.
But as far as her danger and the solutions to it are concerned...
He's just saying out loud what I've been thinking for days now, after all. It's the end result of each mental spiral spoken out loud with more confidence than I manage to think to myself, most of the time.
Leaving May behind isn't an option. Dragging her into danger isn't something that I like.
