The rest of the dinner passes without further incident.
Tomas eats his stew with a scowl on his face, but he doesn't say anything else. He seems to be trying to make a point that he's not enjoying the food, but the way he's scarfing it down suggests otherwise.
Valentine and Celeste make pleasant conversation with each other, and Roland mostly just eats in silence, occasionally making a comment about the quality of the food.
Lucas and I don't talk much, but we do exchange a few glances, and I can tell he's still thinking about something.
After we've all finished, the waitress returns to clear our plates.
"Was everything to your liking?" She asks.
"It was wonderful." Lucas says, with a charming smile. "Especially the cake."
May, who has now finished her cake, looks up at the woman and smiles. "It was the best cake ever!"
The woman laughs. "I'm glad you enjoyed it."
She gathers the empty plates and turns to leave.
"Excuse me." Lucas says, before she can get away.
