Chapter 49 - Duty during pregnancy

The house was quiet, unusually calm for a morning with so much life waiting to arrive. Anna sat on the couch, her hands resting gently on her stomach, while Arin rubbed her own, both of them feeling the little movements of the children inside.

Tom entered, his expression serious. "Mark and I have a mission. It can't wait."

Anna's heart jumped. "A mission? Now? Both of you?" Her voice trembled slightly.Arin's hand instinctively covered her stomach. "You can't go like this," she added. "We're pregnant. What if something happens?"

Mark walked over, calm but sharp-eyed. "We know what we're doing. You're safe here. Just stay together and take care of yourselves."

Tom knelt beside Anna, taking her hands gently. "I promise we'll be careful. Nothing will happen to us, and we'll be back as soon as we can. I can't put this off."

The mission wasn't simple. A subtle rival faction had started testing their company's underground influence. It wasn't a direct threat yet, but it required both Tom and Mark's attention.

As the two men left, the house grew quiet. Anna and Arin paced slowly, whispering to each other about the children, the house, and little plans for the future to distract from the worry. "I hate this waiting," Anna admitted softly.Arin nodded. "Me too. But we trust them. They've always handled things."

Out in the city, Tom and Mark moved with precision. Every decision, every action was calculated, but their minds were half at home, thinking of the two women and the children they carried.

Hours later, the mission was complete. Their rivals were handled quietly, no bloodshed, no mistakes. The company's interests were safe. Exhausted but unharmed, Tom and Mark returned home.

Anna and Arin were waiting at the door, relief washing over them. Neither said a word at first—they just hugged their men tightly, feeling the tension dissolve.

Tom knelt beside Anna, placing a hand on her stomach. "See? Nothing happened."Mark lifted Arin into a side hug, smiling. "All fine. All safe."

That night, the four of them sat quietly together. The children were still inside their wombs, moving softly with every heartbeat, and the house felt full of warmth and anticipation. Even with the underground world quietly pulsing beneath their calm lives, love, trust, and family held them safe and steady.
