It was like a muffled drumbeat, as the destructive limb slammed into the glowing barrier. The sound was distant, very much so, and it was its remnants that made Lucas look up, pulling his attention away from the apocalypse coming from underground. But what he barely saw outside in the darkness was not the most important, not when an obstacle was between him and that darkness.
He pursed his lips and ignored that matter for the moment, and returned on the move. The ground cracked, breaking down to go meet up with the destruction below as Lucas's speed turned him into a shadow. Hundreds of kilometers, then a thousand were crossed as the time seemed to pass too slowly.
The ground was already heaving like it was struggling against a monster below. It was sometimes breaking down, sometimes flying up, making the trip chaotic. But nothing could beat a living being's determination to live, much less when it involved even more than itself.
