( Daphne Spinster's POV )
Nadia stood up about four minutes after Declair went into the trees.
Greywall did not ask her anything. Thirty-six people on a rock in the last of the light, and she got to her feet, and they got to their feet, and nobody said a word that I could see.
She had been waiting for that. I understand it now. She sat them down on that ridge because she did not intend to leave and did not intend to say so, and she waited until the only thing left to wait for had happened.
Vess said something to her.
Nadia said something back.
Whatever it was, it was short, and Vess did not answer it.
Then Greywall went north off the ridge.

I want to set down what that costs, because nobody down there will and it should be somewhere.
