( Elizabeth Aurelius's POV )
They read the result in the orientation hall after breakfast.
The whole year, or near enough, in the same room they used on Monday, and everybody was still moving badly. Half the year had spent yesterday in a river. A third of them had been under a wall. Wynne Sarris of Class Three came in on somebody's arm and sat down as though sitting were an operation.
Kell Aldry of Class Two was not there. Arkwright and two academy healers were with him, and I understand the word being used is stable, and that it is expected to remain the word for some weeks.
I sat with Concord.
Thirty-seven people who have done nothing wrong.

Theoran read the figures in the order they finished.
Concord, one hundred and seventy.
Brightvale, one hundred and ten.
Vanguard, seventy.
Greywall, thirty.
Sanctuary, minus ninety.
He did not pause anywhere in that list. He read it the way you read a list.

I stood up.
