Chapter 869 - Chapter 868: Masterful Maneuver

With Matthew's extensive experience and well-honed charm, combined with his good looks and fame, it didn't take much effort to strike up a conversation with Amber Heard. Their chat soon led to a more intimate setting at Horner Manor, where they engaged in a close, "scientific exploration" of human relationships from a biological perspective.

A long, long time ago, when God created humans, he gave each woman two strengths and one vulnerability. As for men, He only gave them one advantage.

A famous Western writer once said that any work of art—be it a film or a novel—wouldn't gain recognition or leave a lasting impact without incorporating universal themes about relationships between men and women.

For Matthew, however, this was more than just artistic enjoyment—it was something he had pursued since the beginning.

Beyond the pleasure, there was another dimension to it. There is a type of workout called "firing up," a form of exercise called sex, and a way of life called family time. Never underestimate the desires of a healthy, energetic man.

Despite the possibility that Amber Heard might have once falsely accused Depp, Matthew still took precautions. Before anything happened, he followed the example of a certain Mr. Chen and discreetly activated a hidden camera in the room. It was merely a safeguard, and like before, he wouldn't keep the footage on his computer but would securely lock it away in a safe.

In some aspects, Matthew was highly cautious. If there were ever another encounter with Amber Heard, he'd do the same again.

"Being with a man is so much better," Amber Heard murmured, lying on the carpet. It wasn't clear whether she was speaking to Matthew or just talking to herself. "I haven't felt this good in a long time."

Matthew rolled over beside her, his confidence soaring. "Not every man is named Matthew Horner."

Amber Heard's breathing slowed from rapid to steady. "It's been so long since I've been with a man," she said.

"Really?" Matthew found that odd, as Amber didn't come across as inexperienced.

"I haven't been involved with men for a few years," Amber whispered into Matthew's ear. "For the past two years, I've only dated women."

Matthew raised an eyebrow. "You don't seem like a lesbian."

Considering their recent "intimate" discussion about love, he had firsthand experience that suggested otherwise.

"I'm bisexual," Amber said without hesitation.

The revelation didn't shock Matthew too much. After all, in Hollywood, nothing is too strange or uncommon.

Bisexuality? That's nothing.

"You have a girlfriend now?" Matthew asked, testing the waters.

"No," Amber replied, leaning in closer to Matthew. "I broke up with my last girlfriend earlier this year."

She suddenly laughed. "Tonight made me realize that men can't be replaced by women after all."

Matthew chuckled and flipped Amber over, pinning her beneath him. "Let's start round two!"

"Wait," Amber interrupted suddenly. "I heard you've had a lot of ex-girlfriends. Why not invite a few over to join us?"

Wait, what? Matthew was stunned by this suggestion—clearly, he was behind the times.

Amber's eyes gleamed. "Do you like watching women together? You could even join in!"

Matthew couldn't help but imagine a scenario where Amber Heard and Emma Roberts were together. What would that even look like?

Although he knew it wasn't realistic, his mind couldn't help but wander.

Taking advantage of the moment, Amber flipped him over and pinned him down, straddling him.

"If you want, you can call me anytime," she said.

Originally, when Amber had spotted Johnny Depp, she thought he'd be a good candidate to help her rediscover the feeling of being with a man. But the moment she saw Matthew, she realized he was an even better target.

More handsome, more famous, stronger, and with more women in his life than Johnny Depp.

Not only could she savor the thrill of being with a man again, but perhaps she could also enjoy the company of some of Hollywood's most famous women.

After all, many of the women who had briefly dated Matthew Horner were not only Hollywood stars but also supermodels.

For the past two months, rumors had been swirling that Matthew had thrown wild parties with several Victoria's Secret Angels in Rio de Janeiro. If she could somehow get involved…

Victoria's Secret Angels! The mere thought made her tremble with excitement.

Turning her excitement into action, Amber launched into an intense "battle" with Matthew.

From Matthew's perspective, Amber quickly deployed a devastating finishing move—a sharp tongue-like blade.

When the night finally gave way to dawn, and the sun returned to the sky, Matthew had successfully fulfilled Lily-Rose Depp's request. After spending most of the night with Amber, it was safe to assume she wouldn't be interested in Johnny Depp anymore.

The two had breakfast at the manor, and as they walked out of the villa together, Matthew asked, "Where to? I'll drop you off."

"Take me to Santa Monica," Amber replied, not holding back. "I'm exhausted from last night and need to catch up on sleep."

Matthew drove her out of the estate. As always, word had spread to the press, and a swarm of paparazzi was waiting outside, cameras flashing in rapid succession.

Matthew was unfazed by the media circus. His gossip-laden life had long stopped surprising people.

Amber, on the other hand, instinctively leaned closer to Matthew, as if it were second nature for a Hollywood actress to do so.

Ignoring the reporters, Matthew sped away.

Amber gave him a more specific address, and Matthew's Mercedes smoothly picked up speed, leaving the paparazzi in the dust.

Seeing the crazed reporters and paparazzi following them, Amber became acutely aware of Matthew's fame and influence.

This led her to start thinking about her acting career.

Although she had appeared in several films and TV series over the past few years, she was far from being considered even a bottom-tier star.

"Matthew," Amber said, bringing up a conversation from the night before. "I was serious about what I said last night."

Matthew thought for a moment before replying, "If anyone is interested, I'll give you a call."

Amber smirked, unconcerned. "With your power and status, what woman would dare refuse?"

Matthew shook his head but didn't comment further. Forcing people wasn't something he'd ever do—it was a matter of principle.

Suddenly, Amber switched topics. "I heard G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation is about to start filming?"

"Not until mid-November," Matthew said calmly. "We're still in pre-production."

"Matthew," Amber was direct. "Isn't the production holding auditions for a major female role?"

Matthew knew exactly what she was implying. He glanced at her and, without hesitation, replied, "You're not suitable for the role of Lady Jaye."

"Oh," Amber responded vaguely, sensing a blow to her hopes.

Among Hollywood actresses, there had always been rumors that Matthew Horner had the best reputation for rewarding effort with opportunities. Now, it seemed those rumors weren't entirely accurate.

Matthew elaborated briefly, "Lady Jaye is a soldier, so she needs to have a strong, fit body." His eyes swept over Amber's slim and elegant frame. "Are you willing to gain weight and change your physique?"

Not every actress had the resolve and dedication of Charlize Theron. Amber immediately hesitated. A smart woman like her knew that her appearance was her biggest asset.

In today's society, muscular women were becoming less and less popular, while tall, slender, and well-proportioned women like her were more in demand.

Considering Matthew's behavior the previous night, it was clear what kind of women were preferred.

Her looks were more important to her than anything.

"Lady Jaye is just a supporting role with limited screen time," Matthew added firmly. "I can find a more suitable role for you in another film."

With his influence, it wasn't difficult for Matthew to secure a supporting role for her in a medium-sized production.

Amber could tell it wasn't going to be a lead role, but she knew her place in the industry and didn't push for more.

Matthew quickly thought of a few possibilities: James Wan's horror series, the Hunger Games franchise, or one of the films financed by David Ellison. Finding a supporting female role wouldn't be hard.

As the days passed, Amber realized that she hadn't come away empty-handed. Gossip tabloids were all abuzz with stories about her and Matthew, and even outside her Santa Monica apartment, paparazzi were lurking, snapping photos.

A few gossip magazines even reached out, asking for interviews where she could share the details of her "relationship" with Matthew.

From what Amber had seen of Matthew, he didn't seem to mind the rumors, but she wasn't in a rush to speak out—after all, there might still be a decent role waiting for her.

By September, as Matthew continued his preparations for G.I. Joe 2: Retaliation, the prestigious Venice Film Festival kicked off. Films like Black Swan, Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame, 13 Assassins, and Norwegian Wood were among the entries competing for the coveted Golden Lion award.

Among them was a film by one of Matthew's old friends—Somewhere, directed by Sofia Coppola.

After leaving the Twilight series last year, Sofia Coppola had taken a brief break before completing this project, which successfully entered the Venice Film Festival's competition lineup.

Sofia extended a formal invitation to Matthew to attend the global premiere of Somewhere at the festival.

Matthew initially planned to decline, but after considering his past collaborations and friendship with Sofia, plus an unexpected call

from Rachel Weisz, he decided to make the trip to Venice.
