Chapter 540 - Chapter 540: Recklessness and Caution

The ancestor couldn't help but be angry at this moment. He had sent Marcus and William ahead to investigate the situation thoroughly. If it weren't for his cautious nature, he would have rushed forward to explore the dimensional power himself long ago.

However, the ancestor never expected that William and Marcus would be utterly useless. Not only did they fail to relay any information back to him, but they also allowed the dimensional power to dissipate completely. So, what was the point of coming all this way? Just a stroll?

Hearing the ancestor's furious voice, Marcus trembled. But he felt aggrieved as well. He wasn't slacking off. When he saw the bat-werewolf's resentment, he was ready to intervene. But who could have expected William to charge ahead first, only to be sent flying? Facing such a powerful opponent, how could Marcus dare to move?

He couldn't move at all! Their ancestor could kill him, and it seemed this mysterious powerful being in front of him could do the same. As the saying goes, a living dog is better than a dead lion. Surviving a bit longer was still better. Marcus thought it would be best to wait for their ancestor to handle this powerful being since he didn't want to test the waters himself.

"Hmm?! Not responding?!" On the other side, after angrily sending his message, the ancestor found that neither William nor Marcus responded, which infuriated him. However, his anger quickly turned to caution, as he didn't know what William and Marcus were experiencing. To be safe, he had kept a certain distance from the main force.

Once the ancestor calmed down, he noticed William's aura fluctuating while Marcus's remained unchanged, standing still without any sign of movement.

"What's going on? What's happening inside? Should I go check?" The ancestor's perception could only sense the auras related to him. He couldn't sense Robert or the Avengers. He had only detected the bat-werewolf's aura because it had triggered the dimensional power. Now, he hesitated, unsure whether to move closer.

While the ancestor hesitated, the vampire and werewolf army had already arrived. When the vampire prince saw his leader standing motionless and noticed William missing, he seemed to realize something and stayed still.

However, the werewolf second-in-command was different. Without seeing their leader, he felt confident with their numbers. Seeing the Avengers, whom he deemed weak and without sensing any energy from them, he scoffed:

"Hey, you weak ants over there! What are you doing here? I—"

"Poof!" Before the werewolf second-in-command could finish his sentence, a ki blast enveloped him, turning him to dust without leaving a drop of blood. This sight pained Moon Knight.

This second-in-command was second only to William. Who knows how much werewolf essence he contained? It could have fed the crescent dart for a long time! Moon Knight didn't care about the werewolves' power origin but wanted to complete his mission early, avoiding the need to hunt werewolves worldwide.

However, facing Robert, whose power surpassed Khonshu, Moon Knight stayed silent, hoping the remaining werewolves wouldn't provoke Robert and die in vain. If they had to die, it should be at his crescent dart.

"Gulp!" Meanwhile, Marcus swallowed nervously as he watched Robert kill the werewolf second-in-command in one move. His already pale face grew even paler, internally pleading for the ancestor to come soon, fearing they'd all be wiped out.

Marcus didn't know that Robert also wanted to lure the mysterious powerful being out. That was why he killed the werewolf second-in-command.

But Robert didn't expect the ancestor to remain hidden even after such a display...

Yes, Robert intentionally killed the werewolf second-in-command. He believed that the ancestor, seeing his subordinates in trouble, would intervene. It was similar to how Robert would step in for the Avengers.

However, Robert didn't realize that the ancestor's approach was entirely different from his own. As a millennium-old entity, the ancestor had caution and survival ingrained in his DNA, a stark contrast to Robert's style!

"Damn you! I'll kill you!" Unlike the ancestor, William didn't share his cautious approach. After returning in a sorry state, he glared at Robert with madness in his eyes. Though his body was battered, he showed no fear. Instead, his claws gleamed with sharp energy.

Despite being thrown away by Robert earlier, William didn't show any signs of backing down. Unlike Marcus, who saw Robert as invincible and wanted the ancestor to handle it, William believed that since the ancestor was here, there was nothing to fear. Charging ahead was the only way. Even if he couldn't win, the ancestor would back him up.

So, upon returning, William charged towards Robert again, this time more cautiously, leaving some strength in reserve to avoid being thrown away again without knowing how.

"Boom!" However, William's caution proved futile. As he appeared next to Robert, he was once again heavily struck and sent flying. This time, Robert controlled the direction and force, sending William near where the ancestor was hiding.

Though Robert couldn't pinpoint the ancestor's exact location, he had a general idea. If the ancestor used his power again, his aura would be exposed, and Robert could lock onto him!

"Have I been discovered?!" Seeing William's body flying towards him, the ancestor had a fleeting thought and then vanished from the spot.

Yes, the ancestor didn't even try to save William. He left the werewolves and vampires behind and fled!

"Damn!" Luckily, as the ancestor fled, his aura became detectable, allowing Robert to track him. Robert couldn't understand why someone with such strong power would run away. Given the ancestor's strength, there was no need for such cowardice.

"I'll leave the rest of the vampires and werewolves to you guys. I'm going after that guy!" Seeing the ancestor fleeing, Robert didn't care why he ran. He quickly told Kara and Martian Manhunter and then disappeared.

"Boom!" As Robert passed the still airborne William, he kicked him back to the secret base, thinking William strong enough to give Kara a good fight.

The strongest vampire, Marcus, would be left to Martian Manhunter, whose power had returned. None of the others could handle Marcus...

"Huh? This werewolf is back?" Kara hadn't found a suitable opponent yet and saw William crash down, looking confused. Her eyes lit up, understanding Robert's intention.

"What happened? What did I just go through?" William was still dazed, everything happening too quickly. He sensed the ancestor's aura when he was thrown but couldn't call for help before the aura disappeared. He then got hit again and returned to where he was initially struck.

"Boom!" As William pondered, he felt another heavy blow. Though not as strong as Robert's, it still injured him and snapped him back to reality.

"Damn it!" Regaining his senses, William saw Kara charging at him again. With a glint of anger in his eyes, he shouted, "I can't beat that freak, but I can beat you!"

"Swish!" William's claws slashed at Kara, the sharp energy forming a tangible force aimed at her. Kara blocked it with her arm, leaving scratch marks on her suit but not piercing through or injuring her.

This was one of Kryptonians' traits. Their suits wouldn't be damaged until they were. The suit's damage indicated that the Kryptonian had been hurt, their steel-like body broken...

This was unlike Saiyans, whose battle truly began when their suits were damaged!

"Why are there so many monsters today?" William thought as he saw his attack fail to even scratch Kara's suit. His pupils dilated, and he punched himself in the head...wolf head!

"Boom!" The pain of being thrown again reminded William that if he got distracted in this fight, he would face death. He had to defeat this violent woman to survive, assuming that freak wouldn't return.

Thus, facing a life-and-death crisis, William finally gave his all. His small brain focused entirely on the battle, stabilizing the fight enough to avoid being thrown around.

Meanwhile, Marcus was under immense pressure. Previously trembling in fear of Robert's power, he thought his chance had come when Robert left. However, he was immediately engaged by the green-skinned Martian Manhunter.

This green-skinned ugly creature was not only as ugly as a vampire in its true form but far stronger than Marcus had imagined. Martian Manhunter fully suppressed Marcus from the start, leaving him no room to retaliate.

Marcus couldn't believe there were so many strong beings in the world. Back in Europe, he had never encountered such powerful enemies. Now, two random individuals could easily overwhelm him...

"Roar!" With a roar, Marcus unleashed a powerful ultrasonic wave at Martian Manhunter's mind. Unfortunately, Marcus's mental attack was ineffective against Martian Manhunter, a master of mental abilities.

However, Marcus's attack wasn't entirely fruitless. It caused Peter Parker, fighting vampires from a distance, to lose his Venom power. If not for Peter's quick Spider-Sense, he would have been gutted...

"Sigh! What a disaster! I thought distancing myself from Johnny would keep me safe, but I still got hit. Fortunately, silver still works on these vampires, or I'd be in trouble..." Peter Parker mumbled as he used silver spider silk to bind and dissolve a vampire.

Due to the mismatch in abilities, the Avengers fought separately, with Martian Manhunter furthest from Johnny Storm, followed by Peter Parker...
