"Hmm?" Robert was surprised when he saw Star-Lord flying towards him. Even though he didn't know which official agency Star-Lord belonged to, Robert, with his reputation as a Saiyan, was notorious among these agencies. So, it was surprising to see someone from an official agency daring to approach him.
"Don't shoot!" Seeing Robert's somewhat hostile gaze, Star-Lord's heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly shouted at Robert. The scene reminded Robert of a classic line: "Don't shoot! It's me..."
"Oh, it's you, kid!" Robert muttered instinctively as he watched Star-Lord approach.
"It's me... huh?" Star-Lord nodded along with Robert's words, but then hesitated, looking at Robert with some confusion. "Wait, you know me?"
"No, I don't," Robert snapped back to reality and glanced at Star-Lord. "I just saw you coming out of that spaceship. So, tell me, which official agency do you belong to? And why did they only send you?"
"Official agency?" Star-Lord blinked in confusion before realizing Robert had misunderstood his identity. He quickly explained, "I'm not from any official agency. I'm an Earthling who got stranded in space. I returned after hearing that the Chitauri were invading Earth to help out..."
"An Earthling stranded in space?" Robert raised an eyebrow as he sized up Star-Lord. He noticed that Star-Lord's energy was no different from that of a regular Earthling and that he had no extraordinary powers, which made Robert skeptical.
However, Star-Lord mentioned the Chitauri by name, so it didn't seem like he was lying. Although it was puzzling how an ordinary person could survive in space, it wasn't unheard of. In the Dragon Ball world, even Bulma's sister had ventured out into the universe.
"Are those Chitauri? What's their deal?" Robert asked, looking up at the Chitauri emerging from the space portal again. "How many of them are there? Are they naturally bred, or some kind of technological product? Why do they seem endless, and why doesn't anyone seem to care about their deaths?"
"I know a bit about that. I did some research after hearing the news!" Star-Lord nodded and explained, "The Chitauri are notorious space pirates. They've invaded many life-bearing planets. Earth, which hasn't entered cosmic civilization or is just beginning to, is within their plundering range..."
"As for the Chitauri, you could say they're both naturally bred and technologically created. They're a civilization that blends biotechnology with technology. Their soldiers and even their Leviathan battleships are a combination of biology and technology!"
"As for who backs the Chitauri, it seems to be a mad Titan called Thanos. I couldn't find more information about him—maybe I didn't have enough clearance or enough money..."
While Star-Lord explained the Chitauri, more Chitauri swarmed through the sky, seemingly endless. The only thing limiting their invasion or suicide charge was the size of the space portal.
If the portal were larger, or if the Chitauri army had appeared directly outside Earth, this invasion might have been much shorter. Robert could have wiped them all out in one go with his Falling Rain technique, rather than waiting for them to arrive in waves.
With a hum, Robert unleashed another Falling Rain, instantly killing the Chitauri in the sky. The Atlanteans, Avengers, and Kamar-Taj disciples could only watch from below, carefully avoiding falling debris and weapons.
"Do we really need to keep watching from down here?" The exhausted fighters, who had previously felt overwhelmed by the Chitauri, now felt a sense of emptiness. Watching the sky filled with what looked like fireworks, they wondered if their presence was even necessary.
This feeling was especially strong among Tony Stark and the others, who had rushed over after the Kryptonians fled. They found themselves with little to do, as they hadn't even had the chance to engage the Chitauri.
"Forget it, let's leave the Chitauri to the Saiyan. We need to figure out how to shut down this space portal. We can't just keep waiting for these aliens to invade," Tony Stark said after watching for a while. He looked around for help but realized that the most capable scientists, like Martian Manhunter and Reed Richards, weren't present.
Reed Richards and Ben Grimm, lacking extraordinary powers, had stayed behind at Avengers HQ. Martian Manhunter was still dealing with a severely injured Kryptonian. Even though that Kryptonian was severely weakened and being suppressed, killing him was still a challenge due to his immense strength and durability.
Without overwhelming power or a Kryptonite weapon, it's difficult to kill a Kryptonian quickly. So, the only ones left to work on the problem were Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, who was happy to have an excuse not to fight.
Peter Parker might have been another potential scientist, but since merging with Venom, he had taken a more aggressive path. His recent battle with the Kryptonians was even more intense and brutal than Hulk's, nearly swallowing the Kryptonian whole.
"Banner, come help out. But we don't have any equipment here; we'll need to bring some..." Tony Stark called out to Bruce Banner and headed towards the location of the Space Stone. However, when he arrived, he found the Space Stone missing.
"Huh?" Tony Stark looked around in confusion, unable to comprehend what had happened.
"This is bad! Saiyan! The Space Stone is gone!" Tony Stark shouted to Robert after realizing he couldn't find any trace of the stone.
"What?" Robert turned his attention to where the Space Stone had been. He had been focused on the Chitauri, using his energy to lock onto each invader, and hadn't had the time to monitor the Space Stone. He was shocked that it had disappeared right under the noses of so many superpowered individuals.
"Where's Loki? He's gone too? Did Thor do this, or did Asgard find him?" Kara hadn't recognized Loki at first, but Robert had identified him immediately, even though Loki had been unconscious and looked slightly different from before.
Now, with Loki and the Space Stone both missing, Robert couldn't help but suspect Asgard. Kara hadn't shared the information that there was a mind-controlling Supergiant present, so Robert had no idea she was involved.
But you couldn't blame Kara for that. She had assumed she had killed Supergiant with her earlier attack since she had lost track of her afterward, not having the ability to sense energy.
"Asgard?" Tony Stark blinked, unsure what to say, as this was beyond his expertise.
"Thor shouldn't have acted. If he had, I would have sensed it." Before Robert could respond, Peter Parker shook his head. "Although I can't take Mjolnir from Thor, I can still sense it slightly. If Thor had used its power..."
"It probably wasn't Asgard. The Bifrost would have made a lot of noise, and even if I missed the energy signature, I wouldn't have missed the powerful spatial energy..." Robert frowned, reconsidering his initial assumption.
"Saiyan, if there's nothing else we can help with here, we'll be heading back..." A Kamar-Taj disciple approached Robert while he was still pondering the whereabouts of the Space Stone.
"Hmm? Where are Mordo and Kaecilius? I didn't see them this time," Robert asked, surprised. He vaguely recognized the disciple, as he only remembered the more powerful members of Kamar-Taj.
"Kamar-Taj was also invaded, but Kaecilius said they could handle it, so they sent us here to provide support and see if we needed to activate the Mirror Dimension..." The disciple explained.
"Once we saw the space portal, we realized the Mirror Dimension wouldn't work, so we helped fight off some Chitauri."
"Kamar-Taj was invaded too? Need any help? And how do you know about the Chitauri?" Robert asked, even more surprised.
"We shouldn't need help. If we did, Kaecilius would have come for it. Even though the Ancient One isn't here, Kamar-Taj isn't easy to mess with!" The disciple shook his head confidently.
"As for their identity, I learned it through a magical translation. I don't know much more about them since they're not beings from another dimension."
"Alright, stay safe. Call me if you need anything. I'll continue dealing with these pests." Robert nodded and began gathering energy for another Ki blast. Since the space portal couldn't be closed, this was the most reliable approach. After all, the energy consumption for Falling Rain wasn't significant for him.
Even though Robert's power level was far below Kid Buu's, only at Super Saiyan 1, the number of Chitauri appearing at any given time wasn't overwhelming. Their efforts weren't on the same level.
Given the Chitauri's current invasion speed, by the time Robert had recovered from the energy spent on Falling Rain, the Chitauri would have regrouped to sufficient numbers again.
So, even if the Chitauri could invade indefinitely, with no upper limit to their numbers, Robert could keep wiping them out repeatedly. As Steve Rogers might say, "I could do this all day" wouldn't be entirely accurate—Robert could do it indefinitely.
Soon, another wave of Chitauri was wiped out by Falling Rain, and the Kamar-Taj members withdrew. Mera, however, was uncertain whether she should retreat. Although it seemed the Atlanteans had nothing left to do, the crisis wasn't over yet, so Mera ordered her forces to stay put and rest.
The Atlanteans obeyed because Mera had gained the Trident of Poseidon and become the ruler of Atlantis.
This had started when Mera first obtained the Horse Talisman. She had not only earned the love and faith of coastal fishermen but also helped countless marine creatures.
Although Mera had faded from the
public eye after losing the Horse Talisman, she regained her healing power after the death of the Demon Lord and the explosion of the Twelve Talismans.
This healing power greatly increased Mera's prestige, making her more popular underwater than Superman on land.
With such widespread support, Mera was pushed into her current position. Perhaps due to the unique nature of Atlantis' leadership or Poseidon's favor, after obtaining the Trident, Mera's power grew even further.
Mera seemed to have mastered the power of faith, beginning her journey towards godhood. This strengthened her rule over Atlantis, even winning over Orm, the son of the former king who had initially opposed her. Atlantis was now more united than ever, second only to the days of Poseidon's reign.
Meanwhile, as Robert continued slaughtering Chitauri, on the other side of Kamar-Taj, Ebony Maw and his companions were fleeing in desperation, chased by Kamar-Taj members wielding glowing magical artifacts...
