"Based on the few clues that have emerged, it seems they didn't kill Carol back then. If she's still alive and can't find us Skrulls, she'll definitely return to Earth. The Danvers couple and this Alex could become key cards to restrain Carol!" Alexander Pierce murmured to himself as he thought of Carol.
As an ordinary Skrull, Alexander Pierce didn't know exactly what happened to Captain Marvel, Carol, after the Super Skrull's betrayal. However, he was well aware of Carol's strength.
Thus, after learning the identity of the Danvers couple, Pierce immediately became interested, especially when he noticed how close the Kent family farm was to the Danvers'. Pierce couldn't resist the temptation any longer.
"If you're going to capture one, might as well capture two!" With this thought, Pierce sprang into action. As one of the country's top officials, capturing the Kent couple didn't require the kind of subterfuge that Lex Luthor resorted to, like disguising people as supermarket salesmen. The resources of official institutions and Hydra would be more than sufficient.
Although the Kent family lived a bit farther away, the Danvers' daughter, Alex, was much closer. As the head of the dormant Investigation Department, Alex was somewhat well-known.
Her notoriety wasn't due to a particularly high status or power, but because many people inevitably had to interact with her in that peculiar department, where people were assigned based on family connections. This made Alex's name relatively famous.
As soon as Pierce saw this information, he wasted no time dispatching Hydra agents to deal with Alex.
Yes, even a laid-back, budget-draining department like the Investigation Department had Hydra members within it. Hydra was truly everywhere, without exception.
Of course, these Hydra members weren't Skrulls in disguise. There was no need for that, primarily because there weren't enough Skrulls sent to Earth to occupy such insignificant positions.
While Alex was idling in her office, the door was pushed open, and a group of Hydra soldiers entered, closing the door behind them. They immediately surrounded her desk.
"Is there something you need?" Alex asked, a glint of wariness in her eyes, but her expression remained unchanged.
She recognized these Hydra soldiers. Technically, they were her subordinates and colleagues, but the Investigation Department was so idle that there was rarely any communication, and no meetings were held. This was the first time such a group had shown up in her office.
"Minister, there's something we need your cooperation with. We hope you can come with us," the lead Hydra soldier said seriously, standing before her without making a move.
"Who sent you? Has our Investigation Department suddenly become useful again? Did the new budget come in? Is someone eyeing that funding?" Alex scanned the encroaching Hydra soldiers, firing off questions one after the other.
"It's not that. You'll understand if you come with us..." The lead soldier was shaking his head, still in the middle of his explanation, when Alex suddenly attacked. She punched him in the nose and kicked him in the groin, dropping him to the ground in agony.
Though Alex had no extraordinary powers, she had learned some basic combat techniques from Robert. Even though she hadn't mastered any sort of energy manipulation, she was more than capable of dealing with ordinary people who hadn't reached a superhuman level.
Super-soldier serum was commonplace in this era, but those enhanced by it wouldn't be assigned to a slacker department like the Investigation Department. The fact that so many Hydra soldiers were stationed here was already a surprise.
"Damn it! Get her! Take her down!" the lead soldier yelled in pain, clutching his groin, as the others snapped out of their shock and charged at Alex.
They didn't use firearms because the noise would draw too much attention, and energy weapons were too destructive. Moreover, their orders were to capture Alex alive without harming her, which meant they hadn't even brought tranquilizers. After all, it was unrealistic to expect a slacker department like this to have such gear on hand.
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
"Boom!"
At that moment, Alex moved like a warrior goddess, using the cramped space between her desk and the office to her advantage. She didn't have to fight all the Hydra soldiers at once, and when facing one or two at a time, she held an overwhelming advantage.
Somehow, each of Alex's strikes found its mark on the soldiers' vulnerable spots. Despite their attempts to protect themselves, they fell to the ground, groaning in pain, clutching their groins.
"Pathetic! Now tell me, who are you? Who sent you?" Alex clapped her hands, catching her breath as she disdainfully questioned the defeated Hydra soldiers.
"Minister, you're only making things worse for yourself by resisting like this!" the lead soldier said, gritting his teeth as he struggled to stand.
"Boom!" Without giving him a chance to speak further, Alex kicked him again in the same spot, ensuring that his situation went from bad to worse.
"Can't you use another move?" the soldier groaned, his face pale with pain. The others, having recovered slightly, exchanged uneasy glances, unsure if they should even try to get up and fight her again.
At that moment, the door to the office opened once more. Alex turned sharply toward the entrance, only to see a man she had never met before walking in.
In other government offices, it would be nearly impossible for a stranger to walk into the leader's office unnoticed, but in a place like the Investigation Department, it was entirely plausible. After all, the department had no real security measures.
"Useless! Good thing they sent me to check in, or something might've gone wrong!" the man said with disdain as he looked at the fallen Hydra soldiers.
"And what makes you think things haven't already gone wrong?" Alex sneered. She launched herself at him, ready to use the same tactic that had worked on the others.
Robert had taught her well—always seize the initiative in a fight!
Alex moved quickly for an ordinary person, especially in the confines of the office. In an instant, she was upon the man, but just as she was about to strike, she stopped, a wry smile forming on her face.
"Keep running! Weren't you fast a moment ago? Want to see who's really faster?" the man taunted as he pulled out a laser gun and aimed it at Alex, his face full of scorn. "I didn't expect the head of the Investigation Department to be this skilled in combat. If you had super-soldier serum, you might've actually escaped us."
"Hey, let's talk this over. What exactly do you want? Our department is so broke, surely no one's interested in it. Or are you here for a few job postings?" Alex chuckled awkwardly.
"Our department is full, no vacancies, but I could give you my position as head of the department if you want."
"Who the hell would want your job as a worthless minister... huh?!" The man scoffed, but his expression changed as his eyes narrowed. He quickly moved to protect his groin, blocking Alex's incoming kick.
"You're a super soldier?" Alex asked in surprise, realizing her leg had been caught and that she couldn't move. She knew then that she wasn't going to win this fight.
"Yeah, and I didn't expect you to have such guts!" the man's eyes flashed with cold fury. He'd seen the state of the other soldiers and had no intention of letting his own groin suffer the same fate, even though he was a super soldier.
With that, rage filled him, and the laser gun in his hand began to charge.
"Don't shoot! We were told to bring her back alive. Did you forget the orders?" the lead soldier, still writhing in pain, shouted, fearing the man would ruin the mission.
"You're right, we can't kill her. But that doesn't mean I can't teach her a lesson!" the man sighed and holstered his gun before swinging his hand to slap Alex.
Just before his hand could touch her, a burst of energy erupted from Alex's body, sending him flying back and crashing into the wall.
"You're a superhuman?!" the man's face was filled with disbelief as he quickly drew his laser gun again, aiming at Alex. "Why have you never shown this power before? With such abilities, you shouldn't be in a slacker department like this..."
"Sorry, that's not my power. You've mistaken me for the wrong person," Alex said, smiling with a shrug. "You should pray that the bigger fish behind you will be satisfied… or else…"
"Who?" the man asked in confusion, unable to keep up with Alex's words. But before he could get an answer, a figure appeared beside her, causing the man's face to change drastically in fear. "You're a Saiyan?!"
"Alex, what's going on? Why is Hydra after you?" Robert frowned as he scanned the room, quickly identifying the Hydra agents. He hadn't dealt with Hydra in a long time, but their presence was unmistakable.
"Are you with Lex Luthor?" Robert asked the man, narrowing his eyes as a sudden thought occurred to him. It made sense—Lex Luthor as the leader of Hydra explained everything. It was far more plausible than Luthor being a mere wealthy businessman with a grudge against Superman and the Avengers.
"What? Who's Lex Luthor?" the man asked, genuinely confused.
"Never mind. I'll figure out why you're here soon enough," Robert said with a smile as he walked toward the man.
"Stay back!!!" The man, now fully alert, screamed in terror as Robert approached. He desperately backed away, pressing himself against the wall as though he could escape through it.
"Zap!"
In a panic, the man pulled the trigger of his laser gun, but the beam vanished upon contact with Robert's body, leaving not even a scratch on his clothes.
As if. Robert wasn't about to let himself get taken down by a laser shot like Kakarot had been.
"Slap!" Robert reached the man and placed a hand on his trembling head, beginning to read his most important memories.
"Kurt! Bring Alex back unharmed!" Kurt's mind was dominated by this recent command, which was typical for a Hydra agent, but it wasn't enough to satisfy Robert.
"Crack!" With a swift motion, Robert broke Kurt's neck. However, Kurt didn't die instantly. Robert's control was precise enough to let him feel the pain and the slow approach of death...
